Java.jnlp file and Launcher for ISY994

Featured Replies

My portal still works but following a major problem I cannot access the admin console. I apparently need a new start.jnlp file for my isy994. I can't find one. I will gladly upgrade to the eisy but it is out of stock and I will need a lot of help. I am in my 80s.

Paul, I cleared the cache and clicked on the URL. I get a blank page which I cannot close. I have to delete the page to exit it. I am not averse to changing to the eisy but I am in my 80s and will need some serious hand holding in the form of somwne remoting in. Also, currently no eisys are in stock. By the way, I am no newbie I have been a member of this forum for a long, long time. I made a mistake signing in this time. I don't want to leave. Our technology has become more important than ever. Thanks.

@smokegrub - Another way to get the start.jnlp file is from UD's website and clicking on "My ISY" on the top right.

What computer OS are you using?

What browser are you using?

Some browsers will not automatically save *.jnlp files and will ask if you want to "Keep" the file before it downloads/saves to your local drive. Then, if you're on MacOS you've got to do some extra steps to make it work correctly. I'm not sure what those are, but there have been posts about it in the fourms and in the wiki

I used the Quick Start Guides installing the Admin Console Icon on Your Desktop

I opened the downloaded Java file and got a warning window.

I bypassed the warning as instructed and got a window named ISY Finder: Not Found which included IP’s of both my ISYs-Away and Local.

When I selected the local IP for where I am, Chesapeake, I got a window that said SocketTime out Exception.

It suddenly dawned on me that I had failed to tell you I will be moving everything to a MacBook Air M3 2024 at some time in the near future.

Should I be basically starting over on that machine?

Told you I was old!

@smokegrub there you are! Looking like yourself again! 🙂

I can't help much on the macOS other than what's in the wiki. I think @Javi or @bmercier posted something recently about how to work with the macOS security issue to get IoX Launcher installed. I know @Bumbershoot posted something a few years ago about how to make it work, but I'm sure a later update changed those processes too.

Maybe check this post: https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/44943-admin-console-not-working-on-mac/

If you already have that machine then I would be using that if that's what you plan to be using in the future. There's nothing really to "move" for IoX stuff, but if you're using multiple computers and one will be the future use machine then I would suggest using that now (again, if you have it). And not worry with the "older" machine. I'm not sure what macOS you mention is so not sure if it's old/current/future. wink

Being old has nothing to do with it. Apple hasn't liked playing with Java for a long time and makes it difficult. I wish it would just work, but you've got to do funky things to make it work. Just glad you've got the grasp of some technology. I'm sure many your age might not have as much experience as you've got.

Good luck getting it sorted out.

If you have this window, it sounds to me that the launcher is installed. So you have the launcher istalled, but it cannot find the ISY. I recall that, at one point, launchers were specific to the ISY software version but the current launcher version is ISY-agnostic.

Does your launcher show a refresh or find (I don’t recall the Exact phrase) option? Did you try this? Do you know the ip address of your ISY? Do you recall the software version of the iISY?
