Please help me troubleshoot PLM X-10 problem

Featured Replies

Eisy no longer seems to be communicating with my PLM. I think this coincides with upgrade to 6.0.3_3, but I thought it was working day or so after that, and I just noticed it today.

I'm no longer able to control my X-10 switches through UD Mobile or the administrative console. When I use the AC to query a device, the response is "Request Failed."

The green light on the PLM is on. I've tried unplugging it. I tried rebooting eisy. I know the X-10 system is working because I can control the switches using an X-10 remote. The PLM is a fairly new 2413U.

Would you all be willing to guide me what to do next (short of throwing out all my X-10 switches)?

Thanks.

Bob

How old is PLM? There is a date sticker that is month and year in four digit number.

Based on controlling X10, I’d guess it is old and has died because of failed capacitors. If so, you can attempt a fix if you’re handy with soldering or replace it. In process you can upgrade a couple key power supply capacitors with higher voltage versions.

Check this in iox: Tools/Diagnostics/PLM Info

If it does not not say Connected, pull the plug in the eisy and plug it back in.

I had this happend when I first set up my eisy and also after one upgrade. Both times that fixed it

@BobM99 , to the best of my knowledge you will not receive a "message" from querying X10 devices. There are not many 2-way x10 devices out there. Most devices will not respond to queries. Even if a X10 module is 2-way compatible, the ISY will not generate an error if it does not respond to a query (ISY994 won't generate an error).

If you are seeing a "Request Failed" error from the EISY, it's possible that it is not communicating to the PLM. Check the "Tools\Diagnostics\PLM Status" for connection errors.

If the PLM is a recent replacement, it's possible that it does not support X10. I've heard that X10 was removed in some newer modules, not sure about the PLM's themselves.

Lots of thanks to everyone who chimed in here. @paulbates Yes, this was the answer. Unplug eisy and plug it back in!

@Guy Lavoie Thanks for being the first to answer. You've always been helpful to me. @hart2hart I do remember the capacitor issue with older PLMs. Thankful that it wasn't the case. @IndyMike Also, thanks for answering. It's all working now, two-way communication.

Happy holidays.
