Smoke \ Co2

Featured Replies

Is there a smoke \Co2 detector that is compatible with ELK (or Insteon)?

Thanks,

John

The only time Insteon tried this was with the Smoke Bridge... many years ago. First Alert sold Smoke detectors under the Onelink logo that were proprietary RF and worked with the Smoke bridge, I had 3 of them.

While there still are people using both products, neither is offered any longer. The Insteon Smoke Bridge was single band. I think First Alert sells under the onelink brand but for matter sensors and maybe zwave now.

FWIW I moved my wireless sensors from Insteon to YoLink a few years ago. YoLink has Smoke & Smoke CO sensors. The YoLink hub can be connected to the Virtualarm service for central station monitoring.

The purpose of the relay modules is to connect your existing detectors to the ELK. No need for additional 4-wire detectors. Any standard ELK input zone can be configured to function as CO or Fire alarm zone.

That is exactly my point. By doing this, you are not using the built in Elk smoke detection input, notifications, & quick action buttons. Also, by code, there are other requirements that need to be met when using a relay for smoke detection (supervised monitoring of relay).

According to the Kidde documentation, these devices are meant to be for auxiliary warning devices, not primary notification and alarming. Would they work, probably, but......

I just tried to point out that there is a way to use existing detectors and connect them to the ELK. If your house is less than about 15 years old, it already has to have interconnected smoke and CO detectors in most states to get a sign-off by the fire marshal when it was constructed. If you are building a new home or are completely replacing extant detectors with 4-wire detectors with the ELK as primary and part of the occupation sign-off, that is a different situation.

I'm not advocating for or against any particular way of connecting fire/CO detectors to the ELK.

Peace.
