Tuesday at 05:27 PM2 days I am trying to duplicate a skill that is gone from alexa.I could ask for a temp and it would tell me.The temp is in EISY but any way to pass it to an alexa annoucement?I know how to pass it to a notification which is what I might do but would be nice to ask alexa.
Tuesday at 05:52 PM2 days I looked for a way of doing this a while back and making an announcement for each temperature was the only workaround I had found. I did ask the author of the Virtual plugin to see if he could add a virtual temperature device (for Alexa), but that doesn't look like it might happen.

Tuesday at 06:53 PM2 days I'm not sure what it's called in Alexa. Maybe it's a routine. But I'd create an Alexa routine that would trigger on a variable being equal to each value. So if variable = 75 then say "the temperature is 75 degrees". One routine per temperature.

One routine per temperature.I posted this technique a few years back. It should only take a few routines around the key temperature area.Until UDI implements some kind of variable indexing technique, this seems to be the only way. Of course, those requests were always met with "no improvements to ISY will be made". This was pre Insteon collapse was known behind the scenes, and new protocol supports was needed to be implemented ASAP.
Wednesday at 04:24 PM2 days For the similar reasons above, I decided to use YoLink sensors that reports BOTH to the EISY and to Alexa the temperatures. This way I can ask Alexa, what is the temperature of the lake and it will answer with "the temperature of hte lake is xx." --> natively w/o any new routines.Works will with my monitor in my Beer keg refrigerator and Hot tub as well. But by also reporting to the EISY, I can do monitoring on temps and alerts etc.Found this was the easiest way vs creating a routine for each temperature between 65 and 80 for the lake, for 28-36 for the beer and 98-103 for the hot tubYoLink products are cheap and work really really well. Integration thru a plug-in to EISY works really well too, as does its natural integration into Alexa.
