Pioneer Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Is the "schedule" option appropriate for setting up house lighting when you are travelling (IE: to make people think you are home) If so -- a few questions: * Can you have it off but trigger it with a button press somewhere? I'd like to be able to, for example, Turn A and B on at a keypad to activate the travelling timer option (and deactivate it by turning A & B off) * Can you put "random" times in of some sort -- like instead of "8 AM" have it be "8 AM +/- 30 random minutes" -- doesn't have to be elaborite but its nice to be able to have it look more realistic like someone is home rather than lights going on at 8 AM every day.
Sub-Routine Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 We always use timers in our home. Whether we are home or away. Outdoor lights are triggered using sunset/rise as well as a specific time to dim every night. Some indoor lights in common areas are activated before we come home and dim after we retire. Some turn off after we leave for work and some stay on, dimmed, all day. If we are home on what should be a workday we override the timers by using a keypad or controlinc or individual switches or the ISY to call scenes that are appropriate for our activities. Weekends use the same lights on different schedules. We rarely touch an Insteon switch. I can't imagine burglars are so interested in our home as to watch it for days, so I never use the timer +/-. If I was that concerned I suppose I would put some bedrooms on security timers, but seeing as our son seems to stay up all night sometimes, if we were going away for long I'd just leave his light on 24 hours Rand
Michel Kohanim Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Rand, Thanks so very much for your feedback which, as usual, is most eloquent. John, We shall have that functionality in release 2.3. With regards, Michel
