    Sounds good and please report back what hardware you receive on the back. Along with the ISY firmware as listed above under the *Tools*. This will help many of us get an idea of what is shipping to the general public. As LeeG noted that hardware revision should have had the capacitor fix and should not have been the root cause. Please consider installing the surge alarm outlet to protect the PLM.

    There should have been another listing such as 1.C etc. In the Admin Console select Tools -> Diagnostics -> PLM Info / Status. This will provide the PLM firmware level such as: v9B
  4. Barry, That is really great to hear you're happy with the hardware transition. As you noted, service after the sale is first rate and the team takes an active participation in the forums. Glad you have been able to shave off a few KWH from that household. Ha . . .
  5. I gather from this statement all of use could look forward to retiring the Java interface? If so, please consider incorporating this feature in the Kick Starter campaign. For that virtual node project, to help finance and provide a seat for a contract developer.

    On the back of the unit is the hardware revision it is separate from the Insteon MAC address which you provided here. It will be like Rev 1.C with a production date like 2315. Please also state what the ISY indicates as the firmware via the Help tab. The Leviton surge alarm outlets I listed above have been tested and proven to operate and provide surge protection with out hindrance towards Insteon power line communications. I can't say 100% whether or not the Panamax surge alarm outlet will do the same. As it depends upon the filtering size of the capacitor in the unit. Thus far I haven't seen any issues for my Insteon plugin units like lamp lincs / On-Off modules. But than again they could very well be using the RF portion to compensate for the power line signal being eaten up. I may try a power line only Appliance Linc and see if it operates fine . . .

    Once you receive the new unit consider purchasing one of these surge alarm outlets. Unlike other surge protection devices this particular unit will actually disconnect the line voltage if its too high or too low. There isn't anything out on the market that does this for a standard outlet: http://www.panamax.com/Products/In-Wall/MIW-SURGE-1G.php You will have to test out if this device will absorb the Insteon power line signal. I use them extensively in my home but haven't tried it with a 2413S PLM so can't say with 100% certainty that the signal won't be blocked. Do not string more than one of these units in a circuit unless you don't care about Insteon power line signals.

    As indicated by Brian H, simply follow the instructions in step 2. If power cycling does not allow you to control the devices or see status change. Your next step is to perform a PLM restore in case the links are dropping off. If you find both steps work to resolve the issue at hand you should note this is very much a band aid and stop gap measure. Until such time as you receive a new PLM which by the way if you're under the 2 year warranty period should be covered. If the PLM is older than 2 years old but only by a week or so please do call Smarthome and you might luck out and they will offer a free replacement etc via cross dock.

    Please select Tools -> Diagnostics -> Show PLM Link Table. Select *Start* and report back how many link records are present. When this task is completed select *Count* and indicate what the number is. Please also indicate how many Insteon devices you have and how many are KPL's.

    1. How old is the 2413S PLM is it older than 2 years old? 2. Have you powered cycle the PLM and ISY? 3. When you do a PLM link compare how many links are present?

  13. A simple test is place the Leak Sensor close to any dual band device in your home and wait for the program to confirm the heartbeat is received. Since the Leak Sensor (firmware) has evolved so many times in the last 16 months it depends what hardware / firmware your sensor is using that will determine what you will see. Older units would flash the LED quickly when placed in water and the only method to determine a wet / dry condition was using the above program. Later firmware caused the sensor when placed in a wet condition would turn on the wet node. Upon the sensor becoming dry the reverse would happen . . . The most recent firmware requires the user to physically to tap the set button to reverse the wet node. This version also flashes the LED at 15-20 second intervals to indicate a wet condition exists. There are however short runs of hardware / firmware where the ISY will show the exact same firmware but the above behavior is not seen but reflects previous firmware releases. Speaking in a general sense most of the Leak Sensors when pressed with in 10-30 seconds of activation would cause a heart beat message to be seen. If you activate the Lever 3 log reporting you should be able to determine what data is being sent and received by the device you have on hand. But my guess is you're too far from a dual band device to receive the signals.

    EVIL Pete, Just to clarify are you saying the use of the cc1111emk USB dongle will allow RF 2 way interaction with an (existing PLM) or the latter which is (IF) some enterprising person was able to create a software PLM they could also use the cc1111emk USB dongle to mimic the same as a real hardware PLM?

    Well, this last statement just peaked my interest! One can only hope and pray this is something a developer could accomplish but don't see this ever coming to light in a commercial way. Its one thing to do this as a private developer and doing this on the DL. But, we all know Smartlabs would never allow this from happening or even coming into market. But, lets just for a moment say some ingenious person was to *mistakenly* leak such a software PLM application which did not rely on actual hardware. The problem is how does one supply the power line / RF signaling to interact with Insteon hardware? This would either require a person obtaining the Insteon processing chip which I have never heard any 3rd party accomplish save Broan, Smartinet, SkyLink, and Flood Stop. I suppose anyone could just repurpose an existing chip from a unit and then go to town. Just spit balling here so curious how some of you feel this could be accomplished with as little investment / hardware etc.

    EVIL Pete, For the benefit of others will you be able to offer a video presentation of this interception and control of the Insteon device via RF? Also, can you provide some clarity as to the over all intent and back ground as to why you took this project up besides novel curiosity? I think many people who don't know you would appreciate some back ground and insight along with a little more detail(s) as to what is happening exactly. Lastly, have you been contacted by Smartlabs / Smarthome about these findings?
  19. You can select any port you wish so long as it doesn't conflict with any *known* ports already in use. If you Google for known ports you will find a long list of common ports and what they are intended and used for.
  20. I do believe both are the same thing. If you upgraded from a 99 Series Controller to a 994 model. All you need to do is submit a service request following this link:http://www.universal-devices.com/contact-support/ When you login to the Admin Console select Help -> About and take a screen capture of the UUID along with any modules in place. Reference this thread along with the service request and UDI will review and activate the module for you.

Hello Michael, My plans are in the next few weeks unless others beat me to it is to try to reference all of the UDI threads which pertain to weather, temperature, humidity, environmental monitoring. I currently have about $1400.XX in Best Buy gift certificates and really wish I could have used them for a Davis weather system. But sadly that won't be on the menu I suppose so will redirect those funds toward some new gear. If the Netatmo system ever goes on sale I might consider using this as a stop gap until I can purchase the Davis system sometime later this year. Eager to read what others are using and (IF) they had any success in integrating either weather data or environmental data with the ISY Series Controller. It goes with out saying the Autelis Bridge, Web Control, and RPi 2 are great solutions to help monitor temperature, humidity, and moisture for soil conditions.
  23. Randy, Thank you so very much for taking the time to share this with me and the forum members. This *Human* needs lots of cooling at the moment as its extremely hot where I am now. Thankfully, the home is super insulated as you can see the interior space is still 22'C when compared to the humid and hot 32.1'C which will rise to 36'C before the day is over. Keeping the home cool with out the aid of AC is hard sometimes when there are consecutive hot evenings and the humidity is off the charts.
  24. Over the years I have been able to achieve a great deal with the tight integration and power of Insteon products and the ISY Series Controller. In the past, the primary goal(s) have been to reduce my energy consumption, increase efficiency, and make the home as comfortable and enjoyable via home automation. Having been able to achieve the first part of my goals using great products from Autelis, Brultech, Insteon, Universal Devices Inc. The missing puzzle in my HA has been hyper local weather and environmental data which could help fine tune *Just in time* use of devices, appliances, resources. Given most of us are not made of money I have always tried to find a good balance between cost vs value. Sometimes it goes with out saying you simply have to pay if you want the performance and accuracy you seek! Like most I am at a point in my life where I constantly struggle between being a tight aszz and just spending my money once. Spending your money once enviably means using lots of cash to accomplish said goal. With anything I do in life, work, and Home Automation (HA) I always try to ask the experts in their respective fields or those who have done it before me. Ha . . . The goal of this thread is a receive feed back from real world users who have deployed specific gear to help obtain hyper local weather to environmental data which integrates tightly with the ISY Series Controller. I do realize some hardware device solutions do not integrate well or require other resources to make it so. So, if you have been using any sort of local weather device or environmental device which helps report temperature / humidity please do chime in and provide some details as to how this was achieved. Below in no specific order are some of the hardware solutions which are on my *Wish List* and at some point in time will be purchased to help me accomplish the above. Most people who are quite serious about weather data have purchased the Davis Vantage Pro 2 Plus: http://www.davisnet.com/weather/products/vantage-pro-professional-weather-stations.asp It goes with out saying this device is being used by lots of serious folks in the geo weather field. While others like farmers, and just avid weather freaks also gravitate to purchasing this fantastic hardware. Some of the pros is extremely accurate data which can be pushed to places like HAM, Weather Under Ground, and many more cloud hosted services. The obvious down side to this hardware is the initial sticker shock which goes for $700.XX to $1100.XX depending upon where you buy it from etc. In the configuration I am interested in it would be for basic temperature, humidity, wind, rain, and the xtras like light and UV. The last two is what pushes the prices up to the heady $800 - 1100.XX range. The following devices I have seen in stores and also via Kick Starter which have been mentioned by a few good members like MWareman, Netatmo: https://www.netatmo.com/site This device has recently come to market and offers quite a few cool features which you can see here: Average selling price is listed about $149.99 to $199.99 depending upon where you shop etc. This device has an extremely clean look and feel and is very small. It in no ways provides the same wealth of data as the Davis system as its in a completely different field and price point. But for those looking for temperature, humidity, light, sound, CO, monitoring. This device is pretty cool in what it can do and provide. Some of the things I like is having the ability to see other geo locations which provides a bigger picture of places in the same geo location as you or further. The system has an extremely clean UI and notification which just oozes that Apple like fit and finish and use. This device also has a wireless water measuring meter along with having the ability to add extra sensors around the home etc. It should be noted once you start to add up the extra modules you will soon find yourself near the price point of a cheaper Davis unit. I have considered buying one of these devices as a stop gap but haven't pushed the button yet because that *Buy it once* guy in the back of my head keeps yelling! Yet the *Cheap Aszz* guy voice in my head yells a lot louder LOL . . . I think it would be pretty cool to be able to share images / snap shots of the local sky etc. This is more of a fad feature opposed to being something actually useful in my mind. But hey that's whats great about life its about having choices . . . Based on KS feed back this device only advises a person of rain not how much rain. So if this device was cheaper I might have considered it as a for runner in my application.
