You can use any of the Echo, Dot, Tap to integrate with the ISY Series Controller. You don't need the ISY Portal if your willing to do the leg work along with having the Network Module. Many threads about the how to before ISY Portal was available . . .

They do offer a 1,2,3 extended warranty though - don't know what they are asking for said privilege. I believe waiting a few months to let the full production run to wiggle out any hardware issues is prudent considering the 90 warranty period. Like what is going to happen in 90 days or if someone doesn't use it very often? EDIT: The extended warranty is very reasonable: 1 = $4.99, 2 = $9.99, 3 = $14.99 all of them include accidental protection and 2-3 exchange. That is pretty good value for sure even the Gen 1 offered only 1 year so for $49.XX and $14.99 = $64.98 still an amazing value. Reading the questions from Amazon there are lots of pissed off people LOL!

Older units will be updated via a OTA firmware update. Based on the Amazon site it uses ESP to determine which one is closer and respond in kind. Proof will be in the pudding when its actually deployed in real world use. Of concern to me is the 90 day warranty like really WTF?

Yes, that is perfectly fine simply by replacing the hardware of choice. There is no problem deploying wireless sensors where hard wiring is near impossible to route or where costs are prohibitive. But wireless should never be the primary method to protect a homes occupants or buildings premises. Wireless can be used as method to offer additional layering and that just makes sense and is OK. If the original home owner did not wire for the following I would urge you to build this into the project costs: Monitor Sump, Low temperature, Fire, CO. Leak Detection for primary areas such as washer, toilets, HWT, dishwasher, fridges with water / ice maker. Also if the previous owner did not install a key pad in the master bedroom please do so. A dedicated panic button should also be considered and located in a secure location like a closet. This simple but critical panic button requires no thinking just a simple inserted finger push. Lastly, regardless of the brand and technology being used please ensure a *Duress* code / pass phrase is enabled and noted in the CS station. Of special note you need to inquire how the CS will handle the duress code when on the phone. This is to ensure the occupant will not be killed if monitored . . . Lastly, please ensure regular testing, calibration, and validation is performed to ensure a reliable system

If true security and long term reliability is the ultimate goal please consider having the entire security alarm system hardwired. Wireless systems have been pushed on to the market because its easy, cheap, and requires no skills. The vast majority to run cabling is the primary cost in today's market besides equipment. It doesn't matter what kind of battery the system uses these are long term maintenance and costs born on the end user forever. The reality is once the system has been commissioned very few people take the time conduct proper system checks. This is analogous to those same people who can't even complete the following scheduled tasks. Many of the long time members who have read my replies have seen this list: 1. Smoke Alarms 2. AFCI / GCI 3. Sump 4. GDO 5. HVAC 6. Fridge / Freezer 7. Hot Water Tank A hardwired system requires no batteries to replace or long term costs. They inherently offer more secure communications and reliability and not limited by physical barriers. They also don't have the same range related issues that come with wireless. If your going to spend money you might as well spend it once and spend it right the first time.

Going off memory there was a very short time where the new Insteon product ID was used but still did not incorporate 100-277 VAC support. I will need to look that up to confirm as its been awhile . . .

Hello GaryT, Unfortunately that doesn't tell me if its a dual band unit that supports 100-277 VAC @50/60 Hz. I only ask because the latest hardware with Revision 7.0 plus have more robust PSU's with in. They also incorporate 1000 volts surge protection and I ask because this would be the first time someone has indicate a power blip caused one of the devices to exhibit what you describe. If you remove the front trim plate cover you can obtain the production date and hardware revision.

Not a problem as its easy to get lost in the whole automate everything. One of the hardest things I find that people don't fully understand is that *Any Device* should operate in its native way with out thinking. A lay (common) person who enters a home should not have to decipher what something does or ask questions of how it functions. Doing so will open the home and the occupants to mistakes and in the extreme situation life or death. Other things people fail to realize is any device that is modified from the OEM specification by default is void of any UL / cUL and safety ratings. When I see people using RPi's into their HVAC system for control I just have to shake my head in disbelief. The HVAC system in most cases is one of the most critical and expansive elements in the home. People really need to apply some common sense in what they do because there are just too many instances where things just went completely wrong.

This is true given some of the past forum threads where someone almost burnt their house down due to a accidental scarf falling on table lamp that returned to the on state after a power loss. Given the OP indicated its for a clock radio and now knows this dual outlet relay supports *Last Known* state. He should move forward knowing what he plugs in should respect fire / safety.

The latest dual outlet remembers its last *Known State* whether it be on-off. The benefit is if you lose power it will return to the on position assuming this was the last known state.

I don't follow if you have no plans to control the top outlet why then have a program? No program = no problems?

In no specific order of importance but still relevant in your ask. 1. Hard reset all devices to a OEM state prior to enrolling with the ISY Series Controller. This will ensure all devices are void of any half links, programming etc. 2. The ISY Portal comes with the *Network Module* during the 2 year subscription. Once it lapses you will lose that network module capability. I highly suggest you purchase the module so you have it forever for a one time purchase. 3. The ISY Portal is an extension of the controller as you noted it supports the following and many other services in the near future: IFTTT, Amazon Echo, Honey Well etc. The portal offers a very much plug and play feature set for IFTTT & Echo keeping in mind all of this can be done simply with the use of the Network Module but requires all the sweat equity of the end user. Paying for the portal allows the majority of users to enjoy life and not worry about back end maintenance's. If your trying to find balance in life vs HA this will offer you that time vs life. 4. HTML5 is still being worked on from UDI so its on the road map still no ETA. For now you have the choice of Java or downloading the applet. 5. PLM: Its been awhile since I looked at the hardware support but do recall other PLM's being supported. I can't honestly say I have read of many people using something other than the 2413S / 2312S PLM's. I believe there were a few members who used the Smartenit PLM which is based on the same hardware. 6. Smart App: This member has created an alternative and based on casual review has been a big hit with the forum members. Z-Wave: The company is still working on fine tuning and hammering out multi channel support. Over all it seems the Z-Wave support is pretty stable and most products are supported. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the add on hardware because for $79.XX its not going to break the bank. Upgrading to the next generation hardware when available will just be a snap in and remove moving forward.

I would have thought a company like Phillips would have at least made the behavior adjustable. For those who like the return to white or full on when power is restored, great. For those who like return to *Last known State* this offers the best operational use . . . It should be noted that both Insteon bulbs can be adjusted to last known state vs full on. Unfortunately no one seems to care enough to program the system to take advantage of this option.

The poll highly depends upon the visibility of said poll. Given Larry published this information in the UDI forum it would make sense the ISY would be seeing decent numbers. If the same poll was placed in the Vera forum well guess what Charlie Brown? In the ideal world a survey monkey of the very same would be pushed to all HA enthusiasts that would offer a true insight as to the world populations. I do however find it odd and funny at the same time that not one single vendor ever goes out of their way to indicate the total population of their wares. Keeping in mind you simply can't say its based on units sold because if a warehouse has XXX thousands, millions, on a shelf that's not the same as being in the end users hands.
