No. The controller doesnt know distance nor intentions. What It knows is that it cant reach something but another device can. A 2000sq ft single story house with no walls will require less devices than a 2 story home with lots of doors, walls, and masonry work. Turns and furniture also play a part. For example, in my home, the closest zwave device to my ISY is about 5' away. Its not a neighbor to any devices in my network. Each room has its own zwave outlet and motion sensor in the closet. Yet in the upstairs bedroom thats closer to the ISY, that outlet isnt a neighbor to anything. Yet all upstairs motion sensors talk to an outlet thats further from the front bedroom in the hallway. If I were to remove that outlet, would things change...of course. But that is what I want to happen. If it were to die and I not realize it, the self healing properties of zwave will most likely fix it before I notice.

The link for it is also in the tips and tricks post. There's one for UDI store and for Amazon

Great job. I saved a lot of money by switching to GEICO

Here you go. What derogatory comments are on overdrive? How many questions have you answered or helped with? The very first 2 posts on the Smarthome forum details (1 of which I wrote)what people need to get started with UDI products as well as the information being on their main webpage etc. Remind me, what have you done? If you actually read my stuff, you'll see I've haven't put anyone down. With half a dozen posts on here with links and the same questions asked throughout, it is easy information to find at this point. Theres nothing wrong with asking people if they are even trying to help themselves about certain things. People often say there are no helpful guides, you can't find out anything etc. But @Geddyhas been organizing things to make it easier but yet many still don't try to use the readily available resources to answer their stuff. At that point, yes I'll ask if they tried. You might consider that snarky or mean but ultimately sometimes people do have to try and help themselves. Isy/polisy isn't an easy system to use. It's going to take time and effort to learn this system and what's it about. Im trying to push people to use the resources in front of them to prepare themselves and learn how to help themselves. If not and the expecta8is hand holding throughout, what could/should become a great system could actually do the opposite and become a nightmare

Yes, zst10 is S2 500 series and 700 series. You have the 500 series stick which probably requires a different firmware. The correct stick can be found on UDI's website as well as the links in the 700 series tips and tricks section

It was a question. Nothing more nothing less. Yes, many people are freaking out with many of us (including myself spent most of the day yesterday responding to those same people to help...what about you? How much assistance have you offered? It took more time to post a question than simply going to amazon and typing isy994. First listing that pops up....isy994 zwave

Bathroom vent fan switch control.

There are variable speed fans. Those are what i mentioned earlier. A properly sized fan for your space will accomplish what you're trying to do -
Have you bothered to try and look? I didn't have any problems seeing them on UDI's website or Amazon
-
Did you try clicking the links in the zwave tips and tricks or UDI's webpage for Polisy? I didn't have any issues with finding USB sticks in either one https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/34826-zwave-700-series-tips-and-tricks/

It does not. Only a factory reset clearly erases everything
-
You can't. Two different systems. If you can still get the Id of your INSTEON devices you can use that to add them.

Im with you in that I think their documentation can use some help. At the same time however, if you aren't keeping up with a system for years at a time, most likely you'll still struggle as no documentation is perfect for all users. The "experts" here are experts because we stay involved. Take a smartphone. If you've used a dumb phone all these years, how hard would it be to get used to what a Galaxy s22 can do? I go through this with family and friends often. I try to get them to buy things i use so that when they come to me for help, I know how to troubleshoot. It's an ongoing debate because they feel locked into my world but i tell them they aren't paying for my time so it's not fair that i have to take the time to research what they buy to fix their problems. The same applies here. Automation is complicated by nature. Yes, it works great and not something you have to worry about for the most part.....until you do. That's why being involved (not saying like most of us are) is important. So much can change in a short period of time, it'll be like starting over every single time. By staying involved, you keeping up with things as they change which makes transitioning much easier. Even caching forum answers isn't perfect. For starters, most people don't bother searching or reading information (look at the quantity of hub posts in the last 2 days), that's readily available. For those that do search, there can be 20 different fixes for what appears to be the same exact problem. Due to different factors, there isn't always a one size fits all fix. They have gotten better at highlighting the solutions on threads (thanks @Geddy), but that means someone still has to be willing to invest in the time to read and research (i found Google search using the terms I'm looking for easiest), which is something you just said you aren't sure if you're willing to do. In that case, even the clearest documentation wouldn't be helpful. As you've already seen, so much has changed in the last 6 months alone, it's going to take research. A lot of reading and testing to get caught up. The individual forums are laid out much better which is where i would start. Download the app. Connect to it and play with it. The more familiar you are with it, the more the things you read will make sense and answer a lot of your questions.

Bathroom vent fan switch control.
lilyoyo1 replied to roberthleeii's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
Speed control would defeat the purpose of vent fans. They're there to exchange a certain amount of volume of air efficiently. Slowing that down defeats that purpose. Ceiling fans allows for speed control because they're designed to make a person feel cooler which allows for adjustment to achieve the desired results -
Bathroom vent fan switch control.
lilyoyo1 replied to roberthleeii's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
Yes it's possible. Add switches and program. No different than with lights. Vent fans are generally on/off so no speed control. The models that allow for different speeds generally have a switch built in to change the CFM. You wouldn't be able to control that -
Did you factory reset the individual devices
-
Yes. Its a night and day difference between the 2. The USB stick was noticeably slower than the PLM and would miss button presses etc. I havent tried the USB stick with the latest firmware yet With the 2413s PLM, 90-95% of the time everything runs perfect. Then out the blue I'll get slowdowns. The isy is receiving the commands. Just execution becomes slow
-
I'm using 2413s. The USB stick had too many issues for me
-
It's really nothing major. Just basic if sensor is switched on turn lights on. I use zwave sensors (dome) to an insteon switch. There's been no rhyme or reason for the slow down. Sometimes it's so fast I'm amazed and others I've turned the light on as the program starts to run.
-
There's a guy on eBay that does plms but i don't know about regular devices. I'm one to replace a failed device vs try to fix so it's not something I ever looked into
-
My polisy has been slower than my Isy stuff. With this still being alpha/beta, I've chalked it up to that. They're times when things run extremely fast and others extremely slow. I think it will get better in time. One thing I did notice is with the PLM USB stick. Communication from devices is much slower along with missed signals.

Nothing in the diy space outside of ebay

Support thread for: ISY on Polisy (IoP) v5.4.3 (April 8, 2022)

Submit a proper support ticket directly to universal devices as that is the most expeditious way to get up and running properly
