Brian: do you have experience with them? Do you think they'll be reliable for this purpose and distance?
-
I just remembered that I have some of these: http://www.retrothing.com/2006/10/radio_shack_rem.html If they still work.

Okay. Then what are my options to get the IR signal from my living room to my (finished) basement. probably a distance of approximately 60 feet or so. I believe that I may have an extra CAT5 cable running between the two areas. Could I use that? If not, is there a way to piggyback onto my TV cable or an existing CAT5 or should I go wireless? Thanks for any help.

My redeye is in my living room and my isy with IR is in basement. Thought the rs232 would be better (more reliable).
-
My Redeye (not the mini or pro, just the Redeye) unit is now RS-232 capable. I am not a computer genius and don't really understand command line stuff. I'd like to use a button on my Iphone (redeye app) to control the isy. is this possible? I'll need a really dumbed down explanation, please.

What is Smarthome pro?

I tried installing a certificate and I still get this when go to browse to my ISY: when I click through this, I get this security warning popup: Is there any way to cut out some of the clicking?

Although I thought I was on the most recent version of 2.8.4, the re-installation appears to have fixed my problem. thanks Michel, very much!

I upgraded from 2.7.15 to 2.8.4 about a week ago and when I log in to my ISY I don't have any "Current State" listings for the Main tab. I've tried loging in a few different ways, but currently I get no statuses and when I Query things, the status doesn't come up then either. any ideas? edit: and when I go into my Admin console using this: http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/ it comes up with the blue page, but doesn't even offer me to log in and there is no functionality. another edit: and when I enter the usual way: http://192.168.0.199:1443/admin I can get in there, I can log in, but the "current state"s are missing, but I can control things, like turn off lights using the admin console. When I want to close the Admin console, I have to use the task manager to "end task" to get it closed.

I tested my "notify" and it works. I changed to the pool ntp server and it seems to work. I have no idea why it would work and the other one not work.

I can't seem to get my ISY to sync with this NTP server. Here is the error that I get. I just upgraded to 2.8.4 and it didn't fix this. any ideas?

I like my outside lights to go on when it is pretty dark. Basically, when you would actually need the light to be on so that you can see. A year or two ago when I set up my outside lights to go on based on light data from Weatherbug, I found that it was a Light number of about 5-7. I turned this feature off for a while but was thinking of bringing this back to vary the light turn-on time based on the light data instead of simply 20 minutes after sunset. The problem is that now, the light data goes to ZERO while it is still pretty light outside. I tried four or five weatherbug stations. Is this different than it used to be. I am thinking of screwing with trying to get an outdoor motion sensor to detect the light level, but I have a feeling that this would be a headache, trying to turn that little screw ever so slightly (vs. using ISY to adjust it, but having to take the sensor down to put it in linking mode and putting it back out there and waiting until the next day to see what it does. thanks for any thoughs / comments.

These instructions don't work for me in my situation: Here is how I do it. * First: unplug the 2411T, then wait 10 seconds, then plug back in and wait a while while it gets going. then I click the "link management" where it says "add button to IRLinc Transmitter" and the above window pops up. Then I follow the steps, but when I get to step 6, this does not work. I have to skip to step 7 to get it to work. When I want to add another button, I have to start over with unplugging the unit as above *. Then, to use the buttons that are created, they must be put in a scene, as far as I can tell. Then the way I've used the scenes is to create a program that calls the scenes.
-
I seem to be making some progress. I found out how to get passed the problem where it just keeps sending the same IR code to my TV. I just unplug and then plug it back in. I've been able to create a few different nodes in ISY using this technique. I found that if I try to use the node by itself, the only thing that I can do is make the unit beep (using "beep duration" and that a 250 beep duration is pretty long). If I put the "buttons" from my remote in a scene, they work. I create a scene that is has the button for 5 first, then 1, then 8 and I run a program that calls that scene and the 2411T sends 518 to my TV. Pretty slick.

I tried disabling the NTP serve synchronization and when I re-enabled it, it seems to work. I am now able to get updated climate data, so that problem is solved. For a brief period, I was unable to use the notifications also. This seems to be fixed also. What is the common denominator between the weatherbug data, the NTP server and the notification system? Obviously Rand knew that these were connected.

No. I cannot send notifications and my NTP server does not update. I am getting an error when I try to synchronize my NTP server and it gives these errors: any ideas?
-
I've tried about a dozen different weatherbug data sites and I have the same data. I even tried a zip code far away and my numbers don't change. Yes, I click "save". Any ideas?
-
Actually, it is my PLM that is "brand new". My 2411T is from november of last year and it has software version .49, which is the old version, I believe.
-
I came back to this and here is how far I've gotten. I was able to get one node to show up in "my lighting", but there is no "current state", buttons or anything that could be done with this. Is that correct? After I finish step 7 of "Add button to IRLinc Transmitter" (click OK), the node showed up, but then when I try to add another button by repeating the process, at step 1, I double press the set button on the 2411T and it sends the same code that I taught it the first time to my TV, just like it did on step 3 (the testing the code step) before. It seems as though my unit can't get past step 3, even though I press the button for 3 seconds (step 4) and wait for the beep (step 5). Any ideas? I'm using a brand new PLM and a "rev 1.3" 2411T. thanks, someguy

Here is what my grace period is: I tested it and it works. I must have been within the thirty minutes.
-
I've noticed that some programs run when I click "save changes" after I modify them, even though they shouldn't run. In this example: If Time is 1:35:00PM Or Time is 7:45:00PM Then Set 'I / Hearth-9-Audio System IOLinc' 1 (Beep Duration) Set Scene 'Audio System' Off Disable Program 'audio on when Return **' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') I make a change to the program, then I click "save changes" and then it runs, even though it isn't 1:35pm or 7:45 pm. This isn't normally a problem, but the other day, I was modifying programs while the wife was asleep and it turned on the lights in our bedroom. not good. The combination of this and the PLM problems I've had lately and the WAF has gone right down the crapper.
-
My admin console shows the buttons when I am on a folder: Is this not correct?
-
these buttons DO work in "my lighting" but not when I'm in a folder. Is this a bug or is it me?
-
Michel: when I added the IRLinc 2411T itself as an insteon device, it took a very long time and there were many progress bars going across, but there was not a detailed explanation as to how to handle it, if that is what you mean by dialog.
