Install a wireless Insteon thermostat in the remote location. Use the ISY to read the temperature of the remote thermostat. Access the HTML interface from the iPad using Safari.

The things I do with the ISY994i that I'm not confident the Insteon Hub will do are:1. Lights on and off repeatedly through the day, such as bright stair lights at dusk, dimmer as the evening progresses. Not possible with the Hub, an ISY program can accomplish that. 2. Email alert when home in "Away" mode so any light control action sends a text. The Hub can send an alert, but is has to be 24/7. An ISY program folder with a condition will work 3. Battery alert text for door sensor. Both the Hub and the ISY can accomplish that. 4. Temperature alert from the Venstar thermostat in the form of a text and email. The ISY can do that, I don't know if the Hub can. 5. Other advanced programming with a lot of "if" and "else" that I can't recall because I take them for granted. The Hub can't, the ISY can.

You have not described ALL the wires in the Mud Room box. Also, you'll probably be best served with a deep old work box: http://www.amazon.com/Carlon-BH234R-Outlet-8-Inch-Length/dp/B0007N738M/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1447033923&sr=8-1&keywords=deep+old+work+2-gang+box

Are you sure it's the ISY (less likely, but possible) and not the PLM (more likely and probable)? What is the specific problem?
-
Describe the wiring at each switch box including colors and how they are grouped, for example, a 3-wire cable and two 2-wire cables. Also include which wire is conneced to the black screw and which are connected to brass screws. You can disregard any ground wires.

Most of my Insteon Motion Sensors are powered from a battery eliminator. The size of the house is inconsequential, proximity to a dual-band device, such as a switchLinc, plug-in module or Range Extender is what matters. I also hace non-Insteon, line powered motion sensors wired to Micro Modules.
-
Yes, you need to write a separate program to send a notification for each sensor if you want to know which specific entry was violated.
-
Scenes are how the ISY creates links. If you did not use scenes, then how did you do the linking?
-
Links cannot cause chatter. Defective devices, wiring and/or loads can. Describe the wiring you did--not just from memory--pull, but do not disconnect both switches. Include colors. You can disregard any ground wire. INSY?
-
That's to accommodate owner's of older SwitchLinc's. You wouldn't want features of you current devices disabled in the event they're no longer included in the newest devices.
-
Nothing in how you link the device should cause chatter. Only the load or wiring can cause that. Retrofitted switches in a 3-way configuration should behave as the switches they replaced with the exception that they don't toggle (top vs. bottom) to turn the load on of off. top is always on, bottom is always off. But, they should not "argue." All of the SwitchLincs should have line and neutral, but only one should be connected to the load. The other two SwitchLinc load wires should be capped. Is that how they're wired?

A single button or paddle can control one and only one scene. If you send an On, then the responder can be set to on or off, or in the case of a dimmer, to any level between 0% and 100%. That's because there are varying degrees of on, part-way on, half-way on, fully on, for example. But, there are no levels of off. Off is off. The door is either closed or it is not. Because a button or paddle can be a controller of only one scene and On and Off cannot be separated, each of On and Off must control the same devices. But, you can use programs to separate On and Off with each controlling the same and/or different responders.

Configuration > Emails/Notifications > Customizations > Add. Select Customized Content. Near the bottom center, click on Alert down arrow, select Variables.
-
manowell, the Insteon protocol does not allow separating on and off from the same paddle/button. Only a program can do that. ScottAvery, info only: black to black and white to white is parallel wiring.
-
zerop, your thinking is correct, but the ISY does not recognize all of controller, responder or both, only both and responder. That is, when you select a device to be a controller, it's both a controller and a responder. An exception is devices that can be only controllers, for example, a motion sensor.

If you set a ramp rate of 9 minutes, then the ramp rate is ignored.

Virtually all consumer motors have been brushless (ECM) for decades. Clogged filters combined with closed vents can overheat both the motor and control board due to higher power consumption and lead to premature failure. Newer electronics can sometimes circumvent failure by decreasing the fan motor's effort.

If status synchrolinc is on And status synchrolinc is not off My experience is that. "If control/status" is set on (or off) will correctly run the "Then" statements, but nothing therein triggers the "Else" statements. Adding "If ... , is not on (or off)" does run the "Else." That's because the condition states what to do when it's true, but it doesn't state what to do if it's false. Including "If ... is not" is the "Else" trigger. Example: If the sun shines, then I'll go to the beach. The sun does not shine, but I go to the beach. Is my statement true? Yes, it is. I only said what I'll do if the sun shines. I didn't state what I'll do if the sun doesn't shine. The only action that will make the statement false is if the sun shines and I don't go to the beach. If the sun does not shine, it doesn't matter what I do, the statement is still true.

Don't you need something like If status synchrolinc is on And status synchrolinc is not off to run the Else?

I've successfully used ceiling mounted Insteon motion sensors. Keep in mind that, like nearly all motions sensors, the Insteon motion sensor responds to motion (more accurately, minute changes in heat) in a horizontal direction when mounted on a wall. Here's a top down view of the field:

Do you have an ISY Pro? If so, then you can turn off the feature that restores all devices.
-
AFAIK, there's no count up function. But you can send a message when the pump starts and another when it stops.
-
You may get an LED bulb to work, but you really should use an incandescent bulb to add the 2-wire SwitchLinc. BTW, even if you get the LED bulb to work, there's a good chance you are reducing its lifespan.

Any X10 (120 kHz) power line signal strength level indicator will indicate Insteon (131.65 kHz) signal strength because the frequencies are so close. There are also 900MHz field strength meters available. Insteon RF is 915 MHz.
