  1. An Aeon Siren is the usual cure. I've never known it to not work. In general, a Z-Wave mesh almost always requires more than one device.
  2. The Windows Insteon Phone app is the less favorite child. I won't kid with that.
  3. That's enlightening. Thanks then, I truly think
  4. What's a "small Insteon 8 zone controller."
  5. 350 lb force magnetic door lock.
  6. The remote is a controller only. It remains unaware of any scene/device changes. In toggle mode, each alternate press will send to opposite command (on or off) of the previous press regardless of the state of any responders. A solution is to use 4-button mode or set the mode to non-toggle on and use programs to turn the scene(s) off.
  7. The Ecobee3 does not require the cloud. All of its features, except remote control, are available locally.
  8. If your storm door(s) accepts a deadbolt, as you seem to imply, then you should be able to use Schlage Z-Wave deadbolts--if you have sufficient room between the storm door and the regular door. BTW, I've been using Schlage locks for more than two decades. Whenever we update, and we have several times, I just have the new locks re-keyed to the same keys we've been using all that time.
  9. I've come to base HA more on our lifestyle and less than the ability to use one interface (which, BTW, was the original goal of my foray into HA more than two decades ago. Actually, my original foray was 60 some years ago, but it came to fruition only within the last few decades.). IMHO, HA is primarily for convenience and secondarily, as an energy saver, in any case, the less effort and the more energy saved the better the system (=a group of interacting, interrelated, or interdependent elements forming a complex whole.). Decor matters, too. I do have a portal and a bunch of Echos/Dots and a couple of Smartphones (parts of the system), as well as three HVAC zones (zones include more than one room) The Insteon thermostats have several abilities that the Ecobees don't, in particular, being able to turn a zone on or off or to change the mode on any zone (Yes, on rare occasions we have had heating in one zone and cooling in another. Temperature swings on those few days/hours made Auto mode irreconcilable). We are about equally often in only one or two of the three zones during the day or out dining and/or cavorting at night, so the most used property of our HVAC is the ability to automatically turn zones on and/or off. That's where the Ecobee shines. We have Ecobee sensors scattered that are linked to the thermostat that control those rooms. They are more than just an occupancy/motion sensor. Each is also temperature sensor whose reading is averaged in with other sensors linked to that thermostat. Each sensor can also be included/excluded based on any of the schedules you set up. We use Life360 and a ready made IFTTT recipe to automatically turn off the zones after we leave and the two main zones before we arrive--automatically. (Actually, the recipe turns of the zones when the last one leaves and on as the first one returns.) Caveat #1. If you use voice (Ecobee skill for Echo) to change the temperature, then it will not resume the schedule at all. I spoke and wrote to Ecobee support and all they did was confirm my finding. A search revealed an Ecobee created IFTTT recipe that resumes programming at a specific time (e.g., bedtime). Caveat #2. Life360 allows you to track the location of anyone in your circle. We have no difficulty with that--at all
  10. You don't want Zigbee for HAVC control. The Zigbee module for the ISY is primarily for energy management. That leaves Insteon and Z-Wave. I have been happy with Insteon for all my zones, but some posters have been dissatisfied. I recently switched to Ecobee for ease of additional features, for example, occupancy mode sensors.
  11. Start by completely deleting the two scenes involving all four switches (which specific switches are they?). Do two and only two switches control the two individual loads independently, one for the can lights and one for the pendents?
  12. Alexa becomes unresponsive when the room volume is high. It effectively responds as people will in a loud environment, unable to hear what's being said. OTOH, people become more attentive when their name (wake word?) is mentioned. AI hasn't gotten there
  13. It matters if the errant devices belong to a scene or not for a possible solution.
  14. No, the Mini Remote is a controller only.
  15. I'm personally opposed to anything that requires periodic queries to achieve a task. In addition to taking up processing time, however brief, there's the (very) remote possibility of a signal collision.
  16. Deleting the ISY from the portal will do nothing to the ISY. You need to delete the portal from the ISY. You may want to contact support to enable transferring the portal to your new ISY. Here are the instructions for resetting your ISY.
  17. I added my LAN URL addresses to the ISY finder for each of my ISYs. HTTP (or HTTPS) is required as well as the port assignment.
  18. Like banking, leaving the portal open may present a security risk. Although inconvenient, I'd vote for keeping it the way it is
  19. The Mini Remote has no way to know If you manipulated the load from another controller. Thus, if you turned on the load using the Mini Remote, unless you used the Mini Remote to turn the load off, the next command will be an Off. Conversely, if you turned the load off using the Mini Remote and then subsequently used another controller to turn that load on, then next button press on the Mini Remote will be an On.
  20. Which Mini Remote, 1-, 4-, or 8-button? What mode is it set to?
  21. Browse to the version installation that you are using (both the UI and firmware should be identical). Scroll down to the Dashboard and install it.
  22. I used the buried wire procedure
  23. Yes, a portal is not required at all. But, you then need to forward a port. That's what I did for years. IMO, the portal is more secure, even than using HTTPS.
  24. I'm not aware of how you can test the portal without subscribing @ $49/2 yrs, but you get a secure off-site connection w/o forwarding a port, Alexa Echo integration and IFTTT, too. The network module is also included.
  25. I also use MobiLinc on an iPhone. I've heard that MobiLinc is not quite up to par for Android devices. Another option, which I also use, is the ISY portal. It's smartphone OS independent, needs only a browser.
