  1. My comments re: the times being off are not refering to the visual effect of it. I have several computer programs and also a manual way to figure it per lat/long and they are all withing a few seconds for a ceratin day. ISY has always varied with the others by up to five minutes for a particular morning or night. I have always wondered about the "internal" figuring done by ISY.
  2. Fly-boy here. I have the exact coordinates for my house and ISY is still a bit off. I can pin-point lat/long to exact. No more than 5 minutes on any given day, just off. I have never understood why. aLf

So do you mean using the IP Address for house 1 or 2 as the "when houe1", etc. Anyone actually done it that can explain the way to set it up? Thanks
  4. My first house is up and working well now for many years. I'm about to convert the other house (250 miles away) to an ISY 99 as well. I got to thinking the other day??? Is there a way for one ISY to talk to the other. A simple question would be for instance, could you have a KPL at house #1 turn on if house #2 SWL ABC was on, or even nicer, could you trigger a light from house to house. I have cameras at both houses and many times I turn on lights at night to look around. I currently shrink the AC down, then enter the other cameras and then return to AC to turn lights on and off (really freaks the neighbors out when they think you are not home). When done inspecting I simply close out of AC. It would be nice to be able to just control the other house via KPL or even a RemoteLinc. Michel, any comments? aLf
  5. I have the Dakota Alert model which looks similar, It too will add on to ISY though I have never done that. You could use a I/O and trigger lights very easily. The Dakota has IR motion units as well. Their unit will look at 4 zones witha unique sound for each zone. All said, I have had reliability issues with the Dakota. I think out of my 3 zones, I have had at least one sender replaced on each. The alarm is really nice with a 400' driveway. I have the "metal" sensor such as you have posted near the road, then an IR up at the house, that way a car will trigger immediately and if it is someone walking up the IR gets that. My only other issue is that the "metal" sensor picks up convective activity, i.e. lightning even when it is many miles away. It works fine buried next to the driveway. I would not bury it under the drive unless it was in PVC as, you (will) eventually have to dig it up!
  6. I've been using MobiLinc for years on i-Phone and it works perfect on the cell network or wi-fi. The support for the product has been in line with Michel's Magic Kingdom here. Both are superior products you wont regret. aLf

Kind of on the same line... I have a Generac whole house generator. I've always been afraid of power outages and the subsequent startup and power of the Generac. I have about 40 SWL, KPL, and the ISY. It is not a big deal for me to have all the Insteon stuff on the back up, ISY is not. When the power goes out, the generator stays off for about five minutes, then starts up and supplies a dozen or so Insteon items and some other old switches, the fridge, furnace, etc. Is there any harm in a generator like this to Insteon (or the ISY if I moved it to the generator power)? On the same note, what about Panasonic Network cameras? Thanks, aLf
  8. Can this Davis product be used without other equipment? i.e. somehow get the data into my ISY. That is without a major money investment...
  9. Is there an inexpensive wireless temp. probe. i.e., that could be put under my dock 80' from the house to record the lake temp. Ideally it would have a digital radout like my wireless outdoor thermometer. I could put it on the counter and read with my webcam. Thanks, aLf
  10. I have a dozen Panasonic cam's and have had good luck with all but one. A guy on the site named Burak, along with UDI heped make my cameras behave with ISY. Recently there have been several posts re: different codes to do many things. I think that their use in conjunction with the WB module has countless possibilities. My code is simple. If I'm home ISY turns off the motion, away, turns it on. I will followup on a post last week to drop motion on windy/ sunny (shadows), etc. ONe could easily set up motion to trigger Insteon lights. Pansonic is the not the cheapest, but I fee has the best reliability. That said, their Customer (NO SERVICE) is second last to none. Albeit I'm slow on ISY code, I can help you with setup of the Panasonics. Feel free to PM me if you go with them and need help. aLf

Jack: As Frank Sinatra said " you had me, then you lost me"! I have absolutely no idea how to do this (variable) thing. I thought I understood ISY until this. I'd love to know how many times my ISY re-boots, but I have no clue where to begin with your model. If there is a "Variables for Dummies" sign me up and send the the textbook link. aLf

So is there a way to run a program when the power goes out and back on? If there is a way to have ISY know that, it would be simple to just have a program that would turn the "AWAY" scene (KPL & APL) off and have it run at startup. Would I just make program that is like this: Program: AWAY Backup If - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition') Then Set Scene 'AWAY' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Then just mark it as run at startup... Thanks, aLf Also, how do you have ISY email you after a reboot, i.e. power outage?

I have a KPL button which is linked to an ApplianceLinc. OFF on each shows ISY that the house is empty. IN turn there is a folder which shows true when I'm AWAY (IF KPL & APL are OFF). Simple. I have a program which runs an "ALL OFF" command every hour to each Insteon SW. Also simple. The "ALL OFF" program is tagged as "Run at Startup". Everything works good until a power outage. I had one the other day. When the power (and ISY) came back up, of course the "ALL OFF" began to run , but the KPL button came back in the "ON" posistion rather than the "OFF" as it was before the outage. This in turn left the AWAY folder as false. Is there some way to to get a folder tag (in this case be AWAY & TRUE) after the power comes up? I 'm thinking that the AWAY folder running at startup would be better than the "ALL OFF", maybe they both should be? I'd like to see the KPL & APL go AWAY and the AWAY folder become TRUE after reboot. Any help is appreciated. aLf

Thanks TJF1960. I rewrote as follows, is this right? I see the actual wording is a bit different than you quoted in your post... If Time is 7:00:00AM And Folder 'AWAY' is True Then Send Notification to 'ME' Wait 10 seconds Run Program 'Alive Away' (Else Path) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

I have a simple program that (should) alert me daily as to ISY's heartbeat. When I leave my house in the "AWAY" mode, I get a notification the first day or two. Then it never sends again unless there is a power cycle or I physically set it as "HOME". I have used the 30 second interval only to eliminate multiple sends a day. Maybe that is the problem? All I want is for ISY to evaluate the "AWAY" or "HOME folder once daily and to determine its validity. I know that isn't fool-proof either as it really doesn't tell me wheter the "AWAY" items are actually running. I'm open to any ideas. Thanks. Here is the program. If From 7:00:00AM To 7:00:30AM (same day) And Folder 'AWAY' is True Then Send Notification to 'ME' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

Maybe a thread here for you "high end" programers to post just how you have used "Variables". Us not so savvy users are a bit stumped by the option. Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll get some great ideas. aLf

jkraus: Do you have a phone line there? http://www.freezealert.com/freeze_alarm_products.htm I use a device called a "Freeze Alarm". It works perfect with two thermostats. #1 is left on the "away temp", say 55. #2 is left on say 70. Just call and you can switch therm 1 to therm 2. I have given great thought to using an Insteon therm. My only concern is the lack of control during power outages, i.e., the network does not come back up. My phone line always comes up and the furnace/therm(s) always are up. In addition the Freeze Alarm wil call you with status problems. To date, I can't sign up for the Insteon way yet. I can't even get rid of the old phone company in favor of Ooma of VoIP for the same reasons. Oh and as a ultimate backup, I use a webcam that has a thermometer in veiw for a "hard" temperature. As always if the Insteon thermostat crowd has history that will calm my "network" fears, please chime in. I'd love the Insteon therm, just afraid of opening myself up for more problems. aLf

(Michel). I wasn't by any means "selling" DrayTek. I was selling what I thought i knew about VPN. I believe many inexpensive routers also boast a VPN, I think. I have been blocked in hotels by firewalls that would not allow coomunication to some things, ISY one of them. After setting up a VPN, I have not been blocked for awhile. Only a thought. aLf

(Michel) Why wont a VPN work?
  22. aLf replied to jkraus's topic in ISY994
Have you tried using a VPN from work? If for some reason I run into blocks, I just log into my home router (via VPN) and I have access to anything I have access to at home. I use DrayTek routers---bulletproof. aLf

Tried the folders thing and it couldn't get it to work. Anybody who can help "design" this, please help out. Here is my hope... SW 1 & SW 2. Want them to come on between 11/1/10 and 1/31/11, at times 05:00AM to 7:00AM, then again between sunset and 10:35PM (sameday). (Christmas Lights). I've always liked the setup that will force the SW to go back on should someone turn it off (IF SW1 is OFF, turn it ON). I was hoping to have the entire days schedule in one program. But whatever the best way to skin the cat, I'm very appreciative. Thanks, aLf

I'm getting a continuous loop On then OFF trying to do a simple program. What I'm trying to do is... Outlet ON at sunset Lanterns on at sunset I'd like ISY to watch over the program similar to this. But the parenthasis thing seems to make it loop. IF time is between sunset and 10:30 PM same day and outlet is OFF or lantern is OFF Then turn outlet ON and turn lantern ON If I can get this to work, I can do the opposite for the time between 10:30 PM and sunset the following day for the "forced" OFF call. I know this is basic to you guys, I appreciate the help. aLf
  25. A simple search for Basement Watchdog will bring you to even more peace of mind. Made in Lincolshire Illinois, they are a fool proof back-up. I know this is kind of off topic, but I'd rather have the Big-Dog model start pumping on its own anytime over an e-mail from ISY. The only drawback I have with them is that you have a lead/acid battery in the house. And yes, it requires maintenance (water level) three to four times a year. http://www.basementwatchdog.com/ Also have one of these. http://www.freezealert.com/freeze_alarm_products.htm#ALARM They work beautiful. I've had one for years to turn the thermostat on and off. Now with the Insteon thermostats, I have given some thought to dropping it for the Insteon way. With Freeze Alarm you only can switch between two therms, with Insteon you monitor the entire HVAC. I just wish I trusted the Insteon/network more. The reason I posted the Freeze Alarm is that they offer a moisture sensor. http://www.freezealert.com/motion-sensor-alarm.htm I'm sure that this would work with an IO linc. aLf PS. You guys who have the Insteon thermostats, can you help make my mind more open to the Insteon thermostat change-over!
