Alexa found devices but "not found"

Went through the process of finding devices but it only found the devices I manually entered into the Insteon hub, not all the ISY devices. (long list)

All the living room devices are showing up correctly in the device list and I can go through and command multiple devices correctly IE: "Alexa, turn chair lamp on", get the OK response and devices respond. What's puzzling is there are several similar devices on the list such as [couch lamp] that returns the message " I can not find a device named couch lamp"

Where all conditions seem identical, what would cause the Echo to recognize most devices on the found list and not recognize other device on the same list?

Those are two different connected Home Device Links. The Insteon Link will only find devices that are added to the Hub, as you found. The ISY Link requires that the ISY Skill be enabled first. before discovering devices.

Are you sure you have to enable the skill?  I would do it anyway, I guess, but I think the critical step for CoHo is enabling ISY through the pitangui.amazon.com link.  I had enabled the skill before CoHo was released. I was under the impression the two are fully independent.

Furthermore, I suggest disabling the Insteon connected home feature (the hub).

There's an error in the list of commands at the link above.

 

Turn On': “Alexa, turn on the kitchen light” - works for devices, scenes, and programs (runs If) should be Turn On': “Alexa, turn on the kitchen light” - works for devices, scenes, and programs (runs Then)

 

In the event you want to run (If), then enable the ISY skill and tell Alexa to "ask Izzy to run <program name>.

I bought the Insteon Hub first based on an e-mail notice from SmartHome announcing Echo, Insteon Hub and Harmony Hub integration plus the iPhone app.

The Insteon Hub and app are clumsy and less than user friendly.  The Harmony Hub with Elite remote is a complete waste of $350. Had to factory reboot/restore twice in two weeks for total lock up, drops functions and drops devices during functions.

Want my old Harmony One back.

Out of eleven devices loaded into Connected Home through the Hub nine work two don't. Odd

Of two of the devices one is named [chair lamp] and one is named [couch lamp].  Using command "Alexa....turn chair lamp on" receive response "OK" and light turns on. Using exact same command using couch lamp, receive response "can not find a device couch lamp in John's profile"

 

Last night completed the portal / ISY registration, went into Portal and started with adding twenty-five devices and a few scenes.  Went back into Connected Home and ran find devices but took several different tries before Echo found the ISY devices.  The eleven devices in the Insteon Hub are now duplicated with the ISY devices.  I expect I'll need to take each Hub device and "forget" them in Connected Home correct?

 

Now that ISY seems to be connected do I need to get rid of the Hub?  If I add devices and scenes in ISY Portal and run discover I expect it will find the Hub devices again.

Hi DIYguy,

 

You do need to unlink from INSTEON (under connected home). Then, Forget All, and finally followed up by Discover Devices.

Echo never finds anything on my device however, Alexa can turn on all my devices by using "tell IZZY..."  any idea how I can get ISY to come up as one of the linked devices?

Sounds like you need to integrate Connected Home then in Portal assign each device/scene/program a spoken phase in Tools > Connectivity > Amazon Echo.

Just went through the process remote, will have to experiment when I get home and see how Alexa fairs with only ISY devices and scenes.

You must disable the "skill" of echo in order to link devices through the "discover devices." It has taken me 2 hours to figure this out --- it may save someone some time.

I'm wondering about this?  I haven't heard of or needed to disable the skill in order to configure Connected Home or discover devices?

 

Granted, it's been a while since I enabled the skill (when it was first published) but I really think something else was the problem.

I have several Echo accounts. I'm always tinkering with all accounts.The skill is enabled in each. I never disable the ISY skill to add and/or delete devices, scenes and programs and have no difficulty discovering devices. I do occasionally get Alexa's message that no connected home devices were found (as a result of discovery) even though they were.

What is the solution if I've tried everything listed above and Echo still does not find any Smart home devices

I can control devices but it's not very reliable as it will say it find no such device in my profile, yet it turned it on by command earlier.

 

What is the purpose of entering SPOKEN text in the device Note field and on the portal?

 

There is currently no purpose in either the Skill or Connected Home for the spoken field in device notes but it doesn't hurt to leave them filled in.  The only spoken field used is that which is completed in the Portal

 

What you might do is go to the Alexa app -> Smart Home and review the list of connected Devices.  If you see any greyed out you can remove them or select "Forget all devices and groups" at bottom of page and rediscover.
