Running the isy994i with your phone?

I have bucked the world for many years and just finally decided to break down and buy a phone.  I have the galaxy S7.  Is there an easy way to control the isy when I am on the road?  Thanks.

Get an app. Several are listed in the section for third party products. Or go to google play store and search for insteon and ISY.

I use mobilinc. I am not in a position to say what is best overall...I think it could depend on your needs. For me, mobilinc offers a couple of important features not found in other apps, including widgets and integration with tasker. I have no trouble recommending it.

If all you want is simple access to devices and scenes, however, other may be just as good and less money. You may also find one interface more appealing than another.

I also use MobiLinc on an iPhone. I've heard that MobiLinc is not quite up to par for Android devices. Another option, which I also use, is the ISY portal. It's smartphone OS independent, needs only a browser.

I'm not aware of how you can test the portal without subscribing @ $49/2 yrs, but you get a secure off-site connection w/o forwarding a port, Alexa Echo integration and IFTTT, too. The network module is also included.

I use my laptop by just using the isy finder and that works great.  Is there no way to do that with the phone too?

I just use the built-in "UD Ajax" Web interface via the web browser on my Android device.

Browsing to the web-based UI on the ISY-994 works great when you are at home;  you can access it remotely once you have a way to do remote access (port forwarding, etc).

Yes, a portal is not required at all. But, you then need to forward a port. That's what I did for years. IMO, the portal is more secure, even than using HTTPS.

I've heard that MobiLinc is not quite up to par for Android devices.

I use it on android and have heard the same allegations.  Perhaps the android version is missing some features that the iOS version has.  This is probably most significant for those who value being able to look at camera imagery using the same app being used to control the house.  Yes, that seems to upset some.  Still, when measured on it's own merits, and compared to the other android options, I think it holds up quite well.

I use MobiLinc on iOS and am quite happy with it.  Since you're an Andriod user, you might look at Agave, which is written by an active member of this forum.  People seem enthusiastic about it.

Agave is quite good on Android and the developer is active on these forums. Mobilinc for Android is not in active development anymore and quite frankly, stinks.

Browse to the version installation that you are using (both the UI and firmware should be identical). Scroll down to the Dashboard and install it.
