btreinders Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 (edited) How long should it take the ISY to reboot? I thought in the past it only took a couple of minutes. I had an issue this past weekend where the AVRemote nodeserver was taking over 10 seconds to process commands to my Denon so I rebooted the ISY. 10-15 minutes later I still could not login. I pulled the power on the ISY and it still took forever to boot up and be able to login and once I could login I found that all the programs that were supposed to be disabled were enabled causing all sorts of issues. Lights going on and off, programs going on and off, etc... I could barely use the AC with all those programs running. I finally had to unplug the ISY and go to bed. I tried yesterday to upload the latest backup but it would not take (I assume because it was bogged down with all the programs running). I factory reset the ISY and loaded the latest backup and it is still taking 20 minutes to reboot the ISY but at least all the disabled programs were correctly disabled this time. I am on 5.0.13D. Possible SD card going bad? Thanks. Also, I had to set up my gmail again, shouldn't that be part of the backup? Edited October 30, 2018 by btreinders

If you haven't tried, power down the ISY, remove and re-seat the SD card If that doesn't work replace it. Because I use a couple of RPis too, I keep some good quality ones around just in case. Paul
btreinders Posted October 30, 2018 Author Posted October 30, 2018 Thanks, I'll give that a try. Can I copy 1 to 1 or do I need to reload the latest firmware and restore a backup?
Michel Kohanim Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 @btreinders, It should take 10 seconds or less. If you have Query at restart checked, then ISY will try to query all devices including the node servers. It might be that some of the node servers are not responding. The next time you are able to login, please check the error log which will give you many clues as to what was going on. With kind regards, Michel
btreinders Posted October 30, 2018 Author Posted October 30, 2018 Ok, I thought that was going to fix it because I found that I had a start up program that queries all 5 minutes after boot up and it also texts me 1 minute after boot. I removed the query and rebooted. It took longer than 10 seconds, maybe 5 minutes before I got the text that it had rebooted. I looked and yes the query after restart was also checked. I unchecked that and rebooted again. This time it never came back. I waited an hour. Still could not load AC. Got LIB_ERRORS-403 pop up and then "Cannot retrieve nodes from the ISY, Would you like to close the AC? " I can telnet so I did a reboot from there, same results and I don't get the text that it has rebooted either. I am not at home right now so I can't unplug it. I assume if I do unplug it, it might enable all programs again so I'll probably just format the SD card when I get home. If that does not work I have two new 16 GB cards coming. I don't think I have ever taken the original card out of it at all.
btreinders Posted October 30, 2018 Author Posted October 30, 2018 So, after I posted that I thought I'd give it one more shot. I rebooted via telnet and it came up this time, fairly quickly, still not getting a text 1 minute after boot but within maybe 5 minutes again and now all the programs are enabled again. The AC does seem to be working better than it did before when all programs when enabled. I tried to restore my backup and it is not taking. Staying at 0 percent.
paulbates Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Was the SD Card eliminated as the potential problem? The symptoms or chain of events do not rule that out (to me): Factory resetting the ISY, swapping the card and rebooting to see if you can get in? If yes restore a backup and see what happens. Paul
btreinders Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 (edited) No definitive culprit yet. I first re-seated the SD card and that did not help. I formatted the card and that did not help. I put a brand new one in, formatted and that did not help. I factory reset, installed 5.0.14 and that did not help. In fact since I took out the queries at startup it seems to be even taking longer. I never got into the AC and I even waited an hour one time. I put the original card back in thinking I'd be back at 5.0.13D but instead found I was still on 5.0.14. Makes sense I guess if the firmware is loaded completely in the ISY memory. I booted up on the old SD card and when I went to bed 20 minutes later I still could not get into the AC. Things were kind of working at that point though since the ELK was telling me good night when I armed it. The bedroom TV came on like it should as well and all the lights turned off after motion wasn't being detected. When I woke up I was able to get into the AC just fine and everything seems to be working. I assume if I reboot it, it'll take forever again. Below is error log since the last reboot. Of note, I booted the ISY up at 9:45 and the first entry is 10:08. Thanks in advance! btreinders Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 (edited) @larryllix I would agree but the programs don't even start executing for almost 20 minutes after reboot. The programs that were supposed to be disabled being enabled was causing the issues you quoted above. That only happens if I cycle power to the ISY while it is booting up and I am not doing that anymore. Still not sure why that happens though. It happened when I updated to 5.x as well. Thanks Edited October 31, 2018 by btreinders

Thanks Do you have any programs set to "Run at Power up"? If I create two programs with tight loops my ISY will grind to a halt and it will appear as if no program are running. The way I have found some of these are the icon flashing red and green erratically. When the ISY engine bogs down it's hard to get proper indications to find these. Flashing LEDs on the front may be a clue indicating ISY is running as fast as it can go. Edited October 31, 2018 by larryllix
btreinders Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 No flashing LEDs. The issue is I can't even get to the AC to see flashing red and green. The log start time is 20 minutes after I apply power so I would not think any programs would run until that point. I do have a startup program that runs once and sets a few variables but I don't see anything that would loop because of it. I do have those exact issues when it boots up and a lot of programs that were disabled are suddenly enabled. But that's not the issue here anymore. I can avoid that issue by not pulling power during the long boot up.

I finally had to unplug the ISY and go to bed." OK. maybe I misunderstood that comment or it has changed. Maybe you could get @Michel to interpret your log about 4 posts up?
btreinders Posted November 1, 2018 Author Posted November 1, 2018 @Michel KohanimYeah, I hope he has some info from the log for me.
Michel Kohanim Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 @btreinders, Please send both the log and the error log to support@universal-devices.com and include the last time you rebooted. With kind regards, Michel
btreinders Posted November 2, 2018 Author Posted November 2, 2018 (edited) I have been trying since 1:30 today to get the logs but I am having trouble. I rebooted from the AC and when I got home at 4:30 I still could not get the AC up. I telneted in and rebooted again and when it came back up about 20 mins later I had the programs enabled again issue. I factory reset put a different SD card in and restored from backup. I rebooted again from the AC and 1 hour later I was finally able to get the AC up but now the logs will not open. I get an error sometimes (Subscriber didn't reply to event: 1) and other times Excel opens but neither case has any data in the log. Just a header line and over 1 million rows with no data. Trying to open the error log just pops up Request Failed. I had cleared both before restarting the first time. Edited November 2, 2018 by btreinders
Michel Kohanim Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Hi @btreinders, Please reboot without the PLM. This makes ISY go into Safe Mode and not run any of your programs. With kind regards, Michel

btreinders Posted November 2, 2018 Author Posted November 2, 2018 I deleted all of the polyglot node servers and now it reboots quickly. I had AVRemote, Ecobee (which never worked), Blue Iris, Harmony, Magic Controller and Hue installed. I guess I will install them one by one and reboot in between.
btreinders Posted November 3, 2018 Author Posted November 3, 2018 (edited) Have a new issue trying to uninstall Blue Iris node server. It's running a a Raspberry Pi III. It's scrolling so fast the log just locks up and stops scrolling and if I go to another page and back it is still scrolling. I have no idea how you installed Polyglot, but you could log into your RPi and run this: sudo systemctl stop polyglot-v2 or, if that does nothing, you might try this: sudo killall -9 polyglot/polyglot-v2-linux-armv7 If that doesn't work, then you can grep the process ID of your polyglot instance: ps aux | grep polyglot-v2 That'll return a process number that you can then kill. It should look something like this: pi@raspberrypi:~ $ ps aux | grep polyglot-v2 pi 4710 2.5 10.1 193452 96428 ? Ssl 06:25 12:23 /home/pi/polyglot/polyglot-v2-linux-armv7 pi 8445 0.0 0.0 4376 564 pts/0 S+ 14:27 0:00 grep --color=auto polyglot-v2 Process ID 4710 is the process on my box, so if I wanted to kill this by ID #, I would use this syntax: sudo kill -9 4710 The -9 flag clobbers the process, so you won't have a clean shutdown, but I don't think it matters.
btreinders Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 (edited) That just kill polyglot right? (actually it looks like polyglot just restarts itself after the kill -9) sudo systemctl stop polyglot-v2 does seem to kill it. The next time I reboot the Pi it will start again? I'd like to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall it to see if the log behaves. If I use the sudo apt-get remove command it says it is not installed. If I delete the polyglot directory it does stop it from starting at boot but once I install it again it remembers everything like username etc.... and the log is again scrolling like crazy. Thanks Edited November 4, 2018 by btreinders
Bumbershoot Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 It's possible that Polyglot would respawn after it's killed, but it's not likely. My suspicion is that you're doing something wrong. First of all, did you try to stop or delete the Blue Iris nodeserver from the Polyglot Dashboard? That's your first move, and it might be all that you need to do to solve the immediate problem (after restarting Poylglot, of course, but you can do that from the Polyglot web page as well). https://<your.polyglot.ip.here>:3000/dashboard This should be all you need to do. _~_~_~_~_~_~ For information only below - should not be necessary and use at your own risk _~_~_~_~_~_~_~ If you've tried that and for some reason it doesn't work, and the 'kill' options also don't work, you might read on below. Again, I don't know anything about how you installed Polyglot, so I'm guessing. I'm fairly confident that: sudo apt-get remove polyglot-v2 won't do anything, as Polyglot isn't in the software repositories that 'apt' looks at. I don't know if Polyglot will start again or not, which again depends on how you installed it (and if you've managed to achieve that, then you likely know how to do everything below). I'm very much hoping that you did NOT install Polyglot as user 'root', or using root permissions, in which case nothing below will work as written. Are you deleting the hidden Polyglot directory where the nodeservers, and their configurations actually reside? Normally, the node servers install themselves into a hidden directory. From the home directory of the user account that you installed Polyglot under (on my machine, it's user 'pi' in the '/home/pi' directory), issue the command: ls -altF You should see something like below, with a directory called '.polylgot/' -- the period before the name is important, that's what makes it, and it's child sub-directories and files, hidden. pi@raspberrypi:~ $ ls -altF total 240 drwxr-xr-x 31 pi pi 4096 Nov 3 05:10 ./ -rw------- 1 pi pi 33401 Nov 3 05:10 .bash_history -rw------- 1 pi pi 3953 Oct 1 12:25 .xsession-errors -rw------- 1 pi pi 56 Oct 1 12:25 .Xauthority drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Sep 8 03:43 Nodelink/ drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Aug 28 22:42 WeatherFlow/ -rw------- 1 pi pi 3953 Aug 24 06:28 .xsession-errors.old -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 66 Aug 14 06:19 .selected_editor drwxr-xr-x 5 pi pi 4096 Jul 20 05:51 .polyglot/ <-- this is the hidden sub-directory --> drwxr-xr-x 3 pi pi 4096 Jul 18 16:25 oldconffiles/ drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Jul 17 05:42 polyglot/ Issue this command: cd .polyglot then 'ls -altF' again, and you should see something like this: pi@raspberrypi:~/.polyglot $ ls -altF total 28 drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Nov 3 06:25 log/ drwxr-xr-x 31 pi pi 4096 Nov 3 05:10 ../ drwxr-xr-x 7 pi pi 4096 Sep 16 14:21 nodeservers/ drwxr-xr-x 5 pi pi 4096 Jul 20 05:51 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 pi pi 4096 Jan 1 2018 ssl/ -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 21 Dec 22 2017 .env_not_used -rw------- 1 pi pi 191 Dec 22 2017 .nest_auth Issue this: cd nodeservers and you'll see something like this (and importantly, the files are owned by user 'pi' not user 'root' if you installed Polyglot correctly): pi@raspberrypi:~/.polyglot/nodeservers $ ls -altF total 28 drwxr-xr-x 8 pi pi 4096 Oct 29 05:47 Camera/ drwxr-xr-x 6 pi pi 4096 Oct 8 15:30 Nest2/ drwxr-xr-x 7 pi pi 4096 Sep 16 14:21 ./ drwxr-xr-x 5 pi pi 4096 Aug 28 22:34 LiFX/ drwxr-xr-x 7 pi pi 4096 Jul 27 06:21 WirelessTag/ drwxr-xr-x 5 pi pi 4096 Jul 20 05:51 ../ drwxr-xr-x 5 pi pi 4096 Jul 20 05:15 Sonos/ From here, navigate to the directory containing the Blue Iris nodeserver, and making certain that you're actually in the correct sub-directory by issuing the command: pwd once you get there. You should see something similar to this: pi@raspberrypi:~/.polyglot/nodeservers/Nest2 $ pwd /home/pi/.polyglot/nodeservers/Nest2 If you're certain that you're in the correct sub-directory, then you can delete the files in that directory by issuing this command (but be careful you DO NOT 'sudo' this command, as it's the destroyer of worlds if you're in the wrong place...? rm -rf * This should wipe out all the files in the particular sub-directory your in, which ought to take care of the offending nodeserver. Restart Polyglot and you should have control of you ISY back, if indeed this is the problem. Good luck! 1
btreinders Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 Thanks! Yes, I did remove the Blue Iris node server from the ISY, from the dashboard and from the store. None of that helped. I finally just wiped the RPi and have set it up again. I installed polyglot with wget -qO - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/UniversalDevicesInc/polyglot-v2/master/scripts/install.sh | bash -e Now I cannot set the ISY password in Polyglot. I've tried with IE and Chrome and it says it saves it but really does not since I get the red bar refreshing the dashboard complaining the username and password are not set.

Just a thought: you're using the correct IP address for the ISY? You also might review the contents of the Polyglot log file to see if there's any indication of what the problem is.
