Is Polisy WiFi Ready for Use?

Hi all, I want to move my Polisy to a new temporary location that unfortunately does not have an ethernet connection, so I figured it's a good time to try the wifi.

In Polisy Settings I see six SSIDs of the same name.  I suspect it might be because I run a Unifi system with three APs and two bands (6)?

I tried to connect Polisy to one of the SSID/APs  and entered the password but doesn't seem to connect.  Ifconfig confirms that it fails.

Am I missing something?

In UniFi, do you have "Hide WiFi Name" turned on. You may have to turn it off to set it up and then turn in back on after it is connected. Unfortunately, for some of my media center and IoT things, I have to leave IoT visible.

Thanks it's off and it's visible.

I've never seen this before and I manage lots of devices on this network.

There is no feedback of any errors.

I do not believe that wifi is enabled on the PolISY as of yet.

Well it scans but not properly and won’t connect so maybe you’re right.

Not sure what’s happening with your WiFi. But-

i am running Unifi with multiple APs.  See several identical SSIDs in Polisy. Chose one at random, entered password and logged in fine. Ifconfig shows two Ips for Polisy, one for Ethernet, one for WiFi.

 

Does your WiFi password have strange characters in it?

I am out of ideas.

Wifi is not supported by ISY firmware and may never be on the polisy.

The basic polisy doesn't even have a WiFi card installed-, as I understand it.

Maybe my Polisy is special?

There's definitely the hardware for wifi and magically it grabbed an IP started working.

But you're right, I can't connect to the ISY, just Polyglot.

This is NOT true. WiFi is supported.

Please check /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf and make sure the password is saved properly.

The ssid and password are there, thanks.

I did a reboot but wifi but Polisy won't connect.  Although it will eventually over several hours.

Not saying this is your problem, but UNIFI has a history of DHCP issues/slow to hand out.

I have not noticed on my setup but, I rarely reboot Polisy and then check to see status.

Thanks I learned a long time ago to keep dhcp separate, so it's on a Windows Server 2016.

The point of my deleted post is that the answer is in plain sight if one looks.

Just like putting it all on a VM, it is something a toddler with a PC can do. Too much of this "support" is people who just don't know, giving poor advice. Either way I am done with that, let them screw things up, hopefully they learn from their mistakes.

To get the system on A VM is pretty basic just install a FreeBSD VM SFTP all of the files from Polisy over to your pc then upload the files into the proper directories in your FreeBSD VM. Make sure to create the proper pools. Bingo Bango, it will run. Of course if you want full functionality of the software you need to use a PLM and pass the ports, you will also need to edit the network configs to match the VM, but nothing complex. Obviously you can't install any portals or anything, but you can test software stability this way. I am sure this is how they test the software at UDI, it would be much faster than loading to real hardware everytime. lol.

First of all, I do value your input especially when clarifying how Polisy works. This said, I have a few comments some technical and some as a 15 year old veteran of this forum:

Non technical first:

1. In this forum, most of us have strong opinions including me. As @Teken can tell you (the infamous antagonist), we always recover because, at the end of the day, we are here to share/have fun/learn and not destroy each other, increase our blood pressure, and get disgusted.

2. For me, everything starts/ends with liberty. It's up to the individual to heed any advice.

Very Technical and Geeky parts that you will appreciate:

1. If you unplug the TPM board, Polisy will not boot. Also, the firmware is signed so, if you flash the ROM, and if the ROM has been locked, then you will brick Polisy

2. The latest version of firmware is UEFI based with TPM backed OS verification. This means that you cannot simply install another OS. It will not boot. This firmware is ready but we have not yet deployed it since the commissioning process is rather cumbersome (adds 3 minutes per unit) and the migration of the firmware to UEFI at runtime has not been thoroughly tested

3. You cannot add an SSD unless it's through USB. There's only one mSATA connection. The other two are mPCIe

4. Although VM may work now, sensitive information/configuration will be stored in ROM and encrypted by TPM. It might be a little difficult doing that with a VM without first creating abstractions for those.

I certainly not trying to aggravate anyone. However, there seems to be some tender egos here(to be nice I won't call anyone what they are called in other forums)

Geeky stuff.

On a serious note, lock these boxes down tight, you have done way too much work to let someone reverse engineer them. You don't want someone cloning them. I know you guys aren't making much on them and the programming is golden. I know a lot of people here don't understand how much work that is but I do. And I appreciate how much time and work you have done. I am sure that the me Running VM of Polisy is a bit alarming to you. I am not out to clone, just keep my inlaws off my ***, can't give them any instability or I will never hear the end of it.

Can an antagonist be a hero?

 

A Hero Antagonist is a character who is an antagonist (that is, they oppose The Protagonist), yet is still technically a hero.... They could also be completely correct in their assertions simply because the main character is a Villain Protagonist. ?

Many users would like more knowledgeable input, and you sound like you have some good, and wise things, that other people can use here.

...and we will let you decide whether you can extract a few things from other users, also. Even newbies post some real interesting ideas that many 'oldies' never even thought of.
