walkman9999 Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Hello, ISY994i PRO v.4.9.0 ISY (Help->About screenshot attached ) Existing installation, problem seems to be with one switchlink dimmer (2476d v40). The switch works fine using the physical control. First problem I noticed is that the switch doesn't respond to scene control, it is supposed to turn off when scene is triggered, but doesn't. Then I tested the switch from the admin console and noticed that "Fast On" turns device on, but "On" doesn't. Event viewer output below: "Fast ON" (works as expected) Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:24 : [INST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1A 3D 87 0F 12 00 Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:24 : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 1A.3D.87 0F 12 00 06 LTON-F (00) Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:24 : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 1A.3D.87 52.65.4C 2B 12 00 LTON-F (00) Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:24 : [Std-Direct Ack] 1A.3D.87-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:24 : [D2D EVENT ] Event [1A 3D 87 1] [ST] [255] uom=0 prec=-1 Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:24 : [ 1A 3D 87 1] ST 255 "ON" doesn't turn the device on Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:05 : [INST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1A 3D 87 0F 11 00 Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:05 : [INST-ACK ] 02 62 1A.3D.87 0F 11 00 06 LTONRR (00) Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:06 : [INST-SRX ] 02 50 1A.3D.87 52.65.4C 2B 11 00 LTONRR (00) Sat 12/03/2022 11:56:06 : [Std-Direct Ack] 1A.3D.87-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 (seems to be missing the stuff above in RED) Not sure what to look at from troubleshooting perspective. walkman9999 Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 Also, just noticing that if I test the Scene using Tools>Diagnostics it works fine. Problem only occurs when I trigger the scene from a button on a keypad. Scene test results attached ISY-Events-Log.v4.9.0__Sat 2022.12.03 12.31.40.txt
larryllix Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Have you done a Restore on the device from the Admin Console yet? Sometimes specific links get deleted or confused. 1
walkman9999 Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 I did a restore on the specific device and it didn't change anything. I am now in process of restoring everything (file>restore devices). I really don't know enough to say why I'm doing this, but it is processing now.

FYI, File > Restore devices should be reserved for specific cases. Also you need to avoid other insteon traffic during that process. if your system is large it takes awhile, other traffic will often times create new problems you didn't have before. Before using File > Restore devices I would try to stop programs with a false IF statement in the My Programs Folder (be sure to remove it later), and if you have motions either put paper over them or make sure no one triggers them. After "Restore Device" (the individual device) doesn't work, the next step should be to Factory Reset the device, and "Restore Device" a second time. If you create new profiles with your "Restore Devices" above just use individual "Restore Device" to try and fix it. 1
Techman Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 @walkman9999 Your ISY firmware is outdated. You should consider moving up top 5.3.4 which has bug fixes and newer hardware support. The upgrade will require some user intervention so be sure to read the release notes before updating.
walkman9999 Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 I'm in the middle of restore devices now - seems like I should let it continue? If so, when it is completed I will both upgrade and factory reset/restore as suggested. Thank you. 1
MrBill Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 5 minutes ago, walkman9999 said: seems like I should let it continue? Yes don't stop it. Also I would NOT upgrade firmware until you get your system back to normal. Beware upgrading from 4.9 to 5.3.4 may or may not be a simple upgrade. Don't just upgrade from 4.9 to 5.3.4 without doing your homework, and get your system working correctly first. 1
Geddy Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 @walkman9999 I agree with @MrBill don't blindly update to 5.x without fixing what you have first. If it's broken now it will only become more broken with the issues of upgrading to 5.x level. 4.9.0 works just fine for people that aren't using node servers and not running higher series z-wave devices. 1

walkman9999 Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 Ok, summing up: will hold off on upgrading allowing overall restore to continue (and won’t do that again) will reset device and restore the specific device the device is set to be off in scene, problem is it doesn’t turn off when it is on when scene runs Will update topic after restore and trying above. Very much appreciate discussion 2
walkman9999 Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 I factory reset device and then restored from ISY99. Everything seemed to go fine with that process. The problem continues. Summing-up what seems to be the most relevant symptom: If I trigger the scene from a physical switch that is a controller, the scene performs as expected *except* the switchlink dimmer stays on (it is set to go off in this scene). When I test scene with ISY Tools>Diagnostics>Test Scene, everything works as expected (the switchlink dimmer goes off). When I trigger the scene from MobilLinc, everything works as expected. The results are consistent, only seems to not work when triggered from a physical switch (8-keypad) scene controller. Any ideas? Thanks for any replies
Techman Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 @walkman9999 Can you post a screenshot of the scene. The problem is most likely with the relationship between your KPL and the scene. Which button on the KPL are you using to control the scene?
walkman9999 Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 Screenshots attached. The scene "Low Hang" is controlled by any one of three keypad links (button "D"), results are same from all.

walkman9999 Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 Can you explain how, or point me to a reference? I'm not sure how to do that.
Techman Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 I noticed that the ISY isn't communicating with "R-LowHang" indicated by the Red Exclamation point to the left of the device name. If it's a battery operated remote you need to put it in the linking mode then do a write updates.
walkman9999 Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 I see. Yes, that remote has fallen out of favor and is not charged. The triggers I'm using are on hard wired keypad links. So hard to understand why the scene works when it is "software initiated" (via ISY Scene test, or Mobillinc), but doesn't work when initiated via any of hte keypads. And, by "not work" I mean the scene works perfectly *except* for turning off the Kitchen Island lights.
Techman Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 If you're not planning on using the remote you should delete it, and make sure it's deleted from your scenes. Were the Keypad buttons in your scenes added as controllers, and not responders.
walkman9999 Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 The keypad buttons are both controllers and responders (for different things). You can see the setup in this screenshot. They are controllers for this particular scene ("Low Hang"), and they seem to control it fine with the exception of this switchlink dimmer. I will charge and update the remote just to keep it up to date. Still works, just don't use it much.
Techman Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 It's possible that the remote which has pending writes is causing issues. I would address that next
walkman9999 Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 Done, but no changes. And, triggering the scene from the remote has same effect as triggering from the keypad. So, triggering from Mobillinc or Test Scene in ISY works, remote or keypad leave the "Kitchen Island" dimmer on. I do appreciate you sticking with it. Any tests you can think of that might help discern a cause?

Within the scene if you click on the remote or "Kitchen Island" they can be set to control the scene differently then when ISY controls the scene. 1

Click on the controller in your scene. In this case the kpl (it should be red). Look at all of the devices that shows up and make sure that your switch is set to be off.

Click first on the Scene name, or the root of the scene, look at the right window, that's how the scene is configured when the ISY itself is the controller. Now click each scene controller one at a time (each RED link) and check the the scene is correctly configured for each scene controller/button. 1
