ISY without Java?

Using Java to connect to devices just seems to be such a chore.  Sometimes it works, but mostly it doesn't.  Is there another way to program the ISY?  

I'm using the 994 but would be willing to move on to the EISY if I could be assured I wouldn't need Java anymore.

eisy uses Java to access the Admin Console.  I haven't heard of users having such trouble with Java.

Not java related problems. These are problems with people operating the launcher. It isn't perfect and sometimes gives problems installing it as well as finding your ISY device.

You are not giving us any information to try to help you. You are not describing your setup and issue. I don't have an issue getting the Launcher to work.

@DennisCYes, you're right.  I haven't provided enough info and am probably unfairly tarnishing Java.  I'll post more info tonight with my particulars, but from what I recall, these are my general issues:

1. First off, I only use the admin console about 3 times a year when I need to make a change.  In the intervening months I've completely forgotten which particular yoga pose is required to connect to the 994.
2. Double clicking start.jnlp really seems to want to start an instance of Internet Explorer and leave a window open.  But IE is deprecated and Chrome support for Java seems lacking.
3. At some point I found a "IE extension" for Chrome which seemed to work, but its still iffy and seems to require a particular harsh facial expression and foul language. 
4. As I recall, my typical experience is to run start.jnlp, and when it does run, it doesn't find the ISY device.

I think I'd much prefer the ISY device just have it's own web interface and once you know the IP address of your device, you're good to go.

That really shouldn't be, maybe you are running a really old version of start.jnlp? Do you recall what firmware version your ISY is on?

My suggestion is to proceed as follows:

Clear your Java Cache, (be sure to check all 3 boxes to delete all apps), if you need instructions, follow the link here:

Download a new version of start.jnlp from here:

When you double click start.jnlp, it should install the current Launcher on your desktop. You should be able to click on the Launcher and it should open and find your ISY. If it doesn't you can enter the address manually by clicking "Add". 

If the Launcher doesn't automatically find your ISY, you can troubleshoot the issue by starting here:

Depending on your system (Windows, Mac) and the firmware version you are running there are some other troubleshooting guides available, but we will need more information.

FYI: The ISY is at end of life and will not be developed any further. In addition, official support will be ending soon, maybe around end of year. The current hardware is called eisy and is much faster than ISY. In addition, eisy has a built in ability to run PG3x, which gives you access to numerous node servers. Node servers open up many automation possibilities that were not previously available.

@rcwagner Do you have Java 8 from https://www.java.com installed? or some other version?

double clicking a .jnlp file an having IE open seems like Java might not be installed correctly, or the wrong version.

All issues describe here are the same with my eisy experience as well…it’s just not the best way to get to eisy UI on a web browser any chance we can get rid of Java? UD Mobile is great way but not everything can be done via mobile app.
