peterathans Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 There was a discussion a while back on getting Zwave devices to command/respond to each other similar to how Insteon devices work in scenes, and the consensus was that the protocol supports it but at the time the Zwave/UD interface did not. I believe the ZMatter board was supposed to provide this functionality, but don't find any reference to it in the wiki. Does anyone know if this feature is now supported, and if so how do we use it?
Bumbershoot Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Here's a link to look at on how to get "associations" working in Z-Wave. They work with devices in close proximity, but not with the elegance of Insteon scenes. 2
peterathans Posted July 6, 2023 Author Posted July 6, 2023 I've looked over that thread and it never seems to directly address the simple scenario of two Zen71 (or similar) toggle switches associated together into a scene (no Insteon involved). For example, which of the five tags (for each switch) are required to be in the scene (on-off power, basic assoc 2/3, scene button 1/2)? Which of them should be configured as controllers/responders (if any)? Which ones have non-default link types? I'm also running 5.6.2 and it appears some UI items have changed (or at least, my screens don't look exactly like those shown).

You'll generally find device specific information in the full manual of the device your using since different mfg. will have different requirements.

I used Zen71 switches and had them controlling fine using Basic Association. I actually had this working before, using SI Labs software, prior to ZMatter and the new Z-Wave version from UDI which supports basic association. Please note this from that thread: "You need to have the power switch nodes controlled from the basic assoc 2 nodes, otherwise you will not see the Z-Wave Basic MC option. What is happening is the basic assoc 2 nodes are actually controlling the power switch nodes using basic set commands." You have to set each switch to control the other one. All the info should be there in the thread. If you post screenshots of your scenes it may help. I don't use Z-Wave on my Polisy IoX anymore (it is only like an Insteon bridge for my old Insteon devices) so I can only be of so much help here since going from memory...
