November 29Nov 29 There used to be an option to replace a defective device easily in the UI but that option seems to have disappeared over time. What's the easiest way to remove/replace an existing Insteon device in all programs, scenes, etc?
November 29Nov 29 Solution First you have to remove the device from the folder, then you'll see the Replace with option. When you replace a device it must be like for like.
November 30Nov 30 Author Thanks! I didn't remember having to remove the old device first. I assumed if I removed the old device before replacing it that old the device would just "disappear" from the scene, or program.I am replacing like-for-like - the old device failed so I was just swapping in a new 2477S.
November 30Nov 30 You don't want to delete the old device, just move it from the folder to the main tree. Once it's in the main tree you should install the new device, then in the old device click on replace with and point to the new device. The controller will reboot and the old device will be gone. Monday at 11:31 PM5 days @ausgarretts make sure you read what @Techman said. Just remove it from a FOLDER. Not from the device. Here is the process in the wiki: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Replacing_a_DeviceThe device must be removed from any folder it is in.
Tuesday at 03:03 PM5 days I replaced a device for the first time this weekend, but I couldn't figure out how to move it from any folder. When I added my new device, I could see the replace option for it, but the AC wouldn't allow me to move my old device to the top (kept giving me the circle with the line through it).Luckily, it was involved in only 1 scene and no programs, so I just deleted/added.Ross
Tuesday at 05:52 PM5 days @Ross When a device is in a folder you need to right click on the device then there is an option "Remove from Folder"
