Help Needed; I’m unable to send TEXT notification via eisy,

What I’ve confirmed:

Eisy email notifications work ######@gmail.com, “when SMTP Settings is Use Default”

Manual email sent from a PC to ##########@tmomail.net works.

What I’ve tried;

SMTP configuration Use Default

SMTP manual configuration tested (Gmail):

Server: smtp.gmail.com

Port: 587 (also tested 465)

Security: TLS checked and unchecked

Username: full Gmail address

Password: Gmail App Password

From address set

TEST Button Result is always an immediate “Mail server failure.

Questions:

Is there anything I’m missing? Has anyone been able to get TEXT notifications to work with a Mint Mobile phone?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

@toddlock Something does seem right from what you have submitted.

You indicated: "Manual email sent from a PC to ##########@tmomail.net works." Doesn't that mean you successfully sent an email which was delivered as a text to your T-Mobile phone?

For you to experience "TEST Button Result is always an immediate “Mail server failure." potentially indicates your router/firewall may be blocking those ports. "Mail Server failure" is different from the carrier blocking the action. I don't think you would get any response like that if you were able to successfully connect to the mail server.

I have xfinity mobile, which is verizon underneath and I send texts to my phone all the time using "<cell.phone.number>@vtext.com

But I also found this in the Wiki related to gmail

@RRalston You are correct: if I send from my PC email account to ##########@tmomail.net, it goes to my cell phone. I'll check my router firewall settings and see if I can open a port to make this work. Also, thanks for the mail config info, this is helpful. Todd

An alternative is to use the Notification plugin. You could use the built-in notification in UD Mobile for a limited number of notifications, or move over to the full Notification plugin and Pushover.

Been doing this for a number of years now and have never had a failure.

@RRalston I was able to get it to work, I created and used the Gmail configuration App password in the Wiki link. Thanks for the help!!!

FYI - Verizon allows email to text. Sounds like T-Mobile allows it too.

Thanks to this refresher, I finally hooked up my Polisy to send email and cellular text notifications via Gmail.

I do need to report a variance, though. I was following the Wiki entry, but when I go to the 2-step verification part, there was no "App Passwords" at the bottom of the page to choose the ">" from. I think it's because I was creating my first one*. Anyway, I then Google searched for "create a google app password", and one of the links was for Google Help. There, I found a link for "Create and manage your app passwords" which took me directly to a screen where I could enter the app name and get a 16-character password - presumably because I had already logged in to get to the 2-step verification page. Documenting in case it helps someone someday.

Thanks for pointing this out. The wiki has been updated to include a way to get to App Password if you haven't had one setup already.
