  1. I thought you may like that! I once was a sheep, baaa baaa... When I first got into Insteon, I purchased my ISY controller in 2006ish because it wasn't dependent on the cloud. I think it was you Teken, but could be wrong, that said "Apps today are like having multiple remotes on the coffee table" and I believe this is more today than ever. I personally won't buy a device (outside my Amazon Echos) that are controlled only by the cloud and don't have an API available. When my family or friends talk about this stuff I do my best to educate them, giving them things to "think about". If I recall correctly in another thread post (one of the Apple Homekit threads perhaps), we got into a discussion about a "standard" HA protocol before. For whatever reason I thought IoT (Internet of things) was supposed to be just that but I was mistaken it is another attempt at yet another protocol. The issue I see with all these "HA" app/cloud products is they are mostly half baked and in turn never progress outside of a "hobby" for the industry until there is a standard that all companies can design for. People will get burned by XYZ HA device and then turn their noses up at it. Problem becomes companies say "why make a better switch when we can make our own switch"? Then businesses can sell and profit on "something different/better", even if its not. Which I think we are seeing now, not gaining the HA industry further down the road just more companies comping at the bit to take peoples money in the HA space. EDIT: OK so FORD is now starting to fragment the HA space.
  2. Teken Im just gonna leave this here. Feel free to use as your new avatar [emoji12]
  3. So last night being New Years Eve I used other lights outside my normal scenes and schedule turning the brightness up or down on a few lights. Strange thing happened, after about 15-30 seconds they turned full on. Happened on three different lights. I tried to repeat the behavior today but cant duplicate this. I have noticed this happening various times in the past but I chocked it up to my fault or setup issues but clearly that is not the case now that I checked the lights. Thoughts on how should I go about trouble shooting this? Next time it happens just immediately go grab the log and post for help?
  4. I wonder if you could pair one of these bluetooth adapters to it then attach it to a AVR. Something like, Avantree Saturn 2-in-1 Portable switchable Bluetooth transmitter and receiver adapter ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0085HOM4K/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awd_QQHGwbZ9MDCFF I dono not that I want to do this but maybe for someone else.
  5. For some strange reason I thought there was a 3.5mm audio jack on the echo. I was wrong. If I see something on the AV integration pro forums about this I will make sure to post the solution here.
  6. I vote for Casatunes and am an authorized reseller if you want more info or buy one. There is an app for Android/iOS, you can plug it into any AVR or dist audio and it will create separate "airplay" rooms and groups that even guests can use if on your wifi and setup. Very nice machine. Can play all itune, spotify (not the limited spotify connect) and you can load music directly to it or play on another machine like a SMB server or NAS.
  7. I believe it can via the networking module
  8. The question still becomes at the end of the day they still have the open API. So would a firmware update kill that? Hmmm....
  9. I backed both and both are utter junk! Amazon Echo is far superior! Look at the "comments" page on Kickstarter for both products, I dont need to say more. Garbage. IMHO Amazon Echo is the best solution at this time.
  10. Jon, as much as I want to agree there has been already other "always on" alternatives but none as easy as the Amazon Echo and with excellent voice recognition.
  11. Can you test and report back? Specifically pick a color (say red or blue) and then test that it turns on/off via the keypad using a program via the network resources? Thanks.
  12. You could test the option to make a switch execute a program (network resource). I am actually 10000ft in the air on a plane right now to Laguna Nigel CA while I type this so I cant test. Can you and let us know if it works?
  13. Damn still sounds like there are some caveats. Trying to figure out a work around. Maybe if I keep them on a "non-switched" (always on) outlet THEN use the KPL or switch to activate the network resource to turn the light on and off at the wanted color? Thoughts? Would that allow me to turn on/off the lights (strips) true white each time? I am banging my head against the wall still with this. I am still trying to find a solution to under/over cabinet lights and accent lighting for my home theater room.
  14. Larrylinx has done a lot of messing around with HUE, network resources and programming. I just asked him based on another post to clarify a statement he made and will post back here with a link or the answer, unless he beats me to it here. Basically if he is able to turn on/off/dim/brighten at a set level and color of the HUE bulbs then all we/you need to do is add those network commands to the networking module (purchased separately) then use a program that basically says "IF X switch is turned on then, run program that turns on HUE bulbs at the desired color and brightness via the network url". Then that would accomplish what you want correct? Hope this helps. I am eagerly awaiting a response. Ive been stuck on finding an under cabinet lighting solution for months that works well with the ISY/Insteon.
  15. Larry - based on this post are you now saying it would be possible for me to link a KPL button (or switch) to a program that would call a network resource to turn on the HUE bulbs to a direct color of my choice? The reason I returned the HUE strips were because they always turned on at the 2700k value, then I would have had to go into the app adjust to the pure white color range I wanted which was not reasonable each time I turned them on. However if I can turn them always on at 5000k/6000k (or a color like red blue etc) each time via the network command I may change back to this and get them again. Can you please confirm?
  16. Chuck just run the jar file via java on the mac and then use Barrys web config from safari
  17. Yeah I was thinking have him run the emulator on his mac directly then use your web config to setup his devices.
  18. Thanks Barry. Strange bc I would think "port mapping" would be for outside connections coming in. Edit: "Stupid Apple Products"! [emoji12]
  19. I tried to help @ahwman last night. The one thing I think could be the issue is he is using a Apple Time Capsule router. This router from what I can tell doesnt really support upnp. Could that be his issue? Is anyone using a TC with this setup? Even if he gets a Pi I suspect he may see the same issue as its a networking issue not hardware. Thoughts?
  20. So how would I change the port number when it seems the emulator is listening on port 8080, 1900 and 50000? I am using the instructions from post #1 here: http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/14525-amazon-echo-and-isy/ I tried to run two of the jar HUE Emulator files but the second on closes. If I use your setup would that work better and if so how would I do different ports as you suggested?
  21. What about? "Wine" "Server" "Center" "Work" "Shop"
  22. I will try it out and see how it all works on W7. I don't want to buy/config more hardware when I already am running a server 24/7. Plus I am a noob with PI and don't feel like learning anything new.
  23. Thanks Barry for the info. I am running one of the first gen configs and emulator and have about 20 of my most used scenes, devices and programs running perfectly on it. There has been some updates to my remote control system to allow Alexa to trigger macros. That said I now will want to add more to turn channels on the TV etc. I run a Win7 server so just trying to see how multiple instances work.
  24. Barry how many instances of the HUE emulator can you run on a Win7 box and what is the total max count of devices at now?
