  1. Its just not making sense. All the lights are off and I still get flickering when turning on just one area. I wonder if a filterlinc went bad that I dont know about and now I am pushing noise into the line causing the problem. Thats the only thing I can think of at this point. Out of curiosity what do you use for two pin MR16? All of my 6" recessed cans are Ecosmart by Cree but are the older version. But my lamps are flickering too with A19 Philips slimlines.
  2. Not sure whats going on but the led lights in my home have started to flicker. All of them, not just certain brands in certain areas. Which makes me wonder if its possible as one/some of the LED bulbs get older in age do they dirty the line with more noise? I have walked around most of my home unplugging all/any wall warts which has made zero difference. Nothing new has been added. Yes honestly nothing new. Im not gonna be like those people that say nothing has been added then be like "oh I forgot I did..." Ok ok I lie, some of the older style philips leds with the "flat heads" became defective. So much for lasting 25 years. I replaced a few lamps with the philips slim style. I had a few slim styles in other areas without issues so I put some in my home office and master bedroom. Even if the lights are "off" could that still cause my issue? Ill remove them tomorrow and see. Anyone else use the philips slim style bulbs and insteon with or without issues? We really should start a new thread with a list from the box stores of which brands work and which have caused people problems. My PLM just died too this week. So far this week hasnt started off so well! [emoji36]
  3. Not sure if this is available yet or open api for ISY control. Have to look into this more, but here is the Fibaro. What strips go with it? I would be willing to try it out. http://www.fibaro.com/us/the-fibaro-system/rgbw-controller
  4. I really need 120v dimmable cool white bright strips that I can plug in and control via the switchlincs. Why is that so much to ask for? Lol I dont need wifi, remote control, colors or anything crazy! Like I said in my previous posts I found some but the color was way off. Which brings me to the fact "in general the quality is all over the place with these regardless where you get them".
  5. So quick Pro/Cons on these. Pros: -Nice pure white color (ordered cool white) -Dimmable but only about 6 steps -Power off then back on retains the previous settings -Small and thin -Nice and bright -Cuttable in very small sections, every three lights at 2" inches -Only two connections needed (power +/-) on the strip when cut to solder back together to extend. Cons: -The AC power supply hums when its plugged in, not sure why or if thats normal -Dimmable in only about 6 steps would be nice for unlimited full range dimming -Does not work at all with Insteon dimmers except on/off -Lowest dim setting could be a tad lower but this is personal preference Overall I like them and they "could work" in my application. Not 100% what I want but I could live with it. Off to order the strips @larry recommended to play with.
  6. Well I bought these back when I posted. You make good points so when I add to them Ill do as you suggested. Tired of sitting on my hands so needed to start trying some out. Kit 5M SMD 3528 5050 5630 2835 LED Flexible Strip Light + IR6 Remote+12V Adapter http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/172016742025
  7. My PLM starting dying today too. Purchased Nov 25 2013 - so just out of my 2 year warranty. I did call SH and they were nice and going to swap it out for me thankfully! Guess I got lucky. Hopefully the replacement lasts longer.
  8. Your right, he didnt, I stand corrected, I assumed and we know what that means. Ill be in the corner with the dunce cap on.
  9. Seriously? Why? Isnt it easier to click the remote on your visor than unlocking your phone, going into an app, and clicking open?" SMH I just dont understand. Sorry.
  10. Michel has indicated to me v5 and the portal are not compatible and fully tested. I cant get the portal to connect for me on v5 but others have. This may have something to do with connecting to the portal at a lower firmware then upgrading to v5 but this is purely speculation. My two cents, stay on v4 and get the portal ISY/Echo integration is well worth it. Im using the Hue emulator and its nice.
  11. I saw these too which could work for some just not sure the power brick will fit for my needs, looks too big. http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/262226150854 Supernight RGBW RGBWW LED Strip Lighting Kit 5M 5050 300leds Non-waterproof
  12. I really wanted to find a 120v direct plug in to an outlet to strip lights. Something like: http://www.birddogdistributing.com/Brilliant-120v-SMD-5050-LED-Strip-Light-65ft-Spool.html I ordered two tests but the color is not right for my applications need. The cool white is too blue and the warm white doesnt work. They dont turn off when used with a switchlinc but can be fixed with a small charger. So frustrating that I cant find something to work. All my strips are going to be via a switched outlet. I also cant hide the transformer box so smaller the better.
  13. With this setup can I put them on a switchlinc and turn them on/off/dim or do I have to use the app? Also if you turn them off say at red do they turn back on the same color?
  14. Im on v5.0.2 FW and cant get the portal to connect to my ISY so I cant test but have you tried running the emulator with programs and the connected home with scenes? How does that work then as a workaround?
  15. That is very strange because I purchased the portal and then couldnt get v5.0.2 connected and Michel said the portal was not compatible with the beta. Glad its working for you, thanks for posting and letting me know.
  16. Just to verify you must have a current subscription to the ISY Portal and you can not be on v5 beta firmware on the ISY, correct? Is anyone on v5.0.2 ISY firmware and connected to the portal?
  17. I seem to think this update was rolled out gradually so while some didnt see it when others did. Its quite possible my echo just recently got updated and now I an seeing this an a "new issue". In my issue last night I was trying to call a scene. My scene is simply called "Relaxing" - so I said "Alexa turn on relaxing" which was heard correctly shown in the Amazon Echo app, but gave me the "That command doesn't work on that device". I will make these adjustments to my speech patterns. I guess Alexia is teaching us how to talk now.
  18. FWIW as of the time of this post I am getting the "That command doesn't work on that device" from both my Amazon Echos using the Hue Emulator. In case other people are having the same issue today its not just you. Mine seemed to start having issues last night.
  19. Havent hardwired mine, but I have a few in high use areas and haven't seen battery issues. That being said did you turn off the LED option? That may help. I also use Eneloop rechargeable batteries. One in and always have a charged as backup. I havent noticed an difference using alkaline vs rechargeable. Also in options check your low battery checkin time and maybe move it to 12 or 24 hours? Just a few ideas to try. Hope it helps.
  20. If you have a WinPC maybe you could skip tasker and just use Eventghost? Just a thought.
  21. Yes Teken we do seem to take things off topic but as we agreed before, a thread is a discussion starter and where that takes us is half the fun, which for us seems to happen a lot. Being a FPS and in the industry of defense/security you bring up valid points that I don't think many disagree with, but maybe seen as extreme. As you say though its risk vs reward, what works for you may not work for me. This is a personal subject for everyone individually evaluate and decide whats best for them and their family. Taken I agree with you that most people have a false sense of security with an alarm. I would say half the people don't even use an alarm properly. Whats even more "idiotic" is those people who answer the door not knowing who is on the other side and their intent. Most home invasions are from people knocking on the door and pushing themselves right into the house. How do you stop them now? These things can't be 100% prevented but we can take actions for them to be greatly reduced. Things I personally do is never open the front door unless I am expecting someone. If I do open the door to go get my outside mail or take out the trashcan I bring my key fob to the alarm system so I can use the panic mode if needed. When coming home at night I make sure when I am in the garage I promptly shut the garage door and have my key fob ready incase I missed someone trying to come in. I know this even to many may seem like "paranoia" but I feel these things can open up opportunities and its easy enough to make sure I have the key fob in my hand so that if something was to happen I hopefully minimize my outcome. I am not going to proclaim this is going to stop, deter, or save my life, but its something which is better than nothing. Most of the time once the alarm starts to go off the attacker will run. I am not going to speak for everyone here but FOR ME PERSONALLY an "alarm" system is just that "an alarm" to let you know someone has violated your space. In no way do I believe an alarm system is going to protect my life. If the fire "alarm" goes off what do you do? Protect yourself by leaving. The same should be said for security. You need to have a plan to protect you and your families life. For some that includes other methods like a gun. Sure we could all fortify our doors and windows but then there would be other areas less safe that could be violated. You can go down the rabbit hole quite quickly with this. You said it before if a thief wants your stuff he will get it. While my home is protected with an alarm its also protected with insurance. I say this to people all the time, and I truly mean it, at the end of the day there is nothing in my home I can't live without and replace besides my family. I have insurance, and wait for it...my important data is backed up in the cloud. If you have precious one off items that are irreplaceable, put it in a bank vault. This also means sitting down with an insurance agent to make sure your belongings are properly covered and at the very least take pictures of your belongings. I would say most people don't even think about this! I have seen it first hand. Most insurance companies have limits on certain items, and in this day and age where most people add more crap into their home each and every day, they don't really realize how much "important stuff" they have until its lost and too late. So in summary Alarm Systems are not an end all period not matter how strong and you must protect yourself. Make sure you have insurance, take pictures of your crap, and for irreplaceable items take steps you deem appropriate enough to protect them.
  22. Agree the response was lame and only after being forced to. Not sure what if any "industry wide" alarm systems use 2.4ghz (not do I care) but at least send a quick patch out and then figure out a better course of action to make sure it indeed fixes it. Otherwise it would seem as this would be leaving them open to liability claims? But Im not a lawyer I just play one on the internet. Regardless this raises the question what do you think about Elks two way 900mhz freq hopping? Their wireless products are UL certified. Although you and I seem to always take these threads off topic! [emoji39] Edit: Poor grammar.
