  1. What is your method for measuring temperature?
  2. Hello Rich, My reply has nothing to do with your current ask. However, I would like you to consider lending your voice to this *Wish List* thread in hopes of inspiring Smartlabs to make all their products natively beep and flash: http://forum.insteon.com/forum/main-category/new-insteon-device-wish-list/16482-native-beep-flash This would avoid the massive amounts of Insteon traffic on the power line / RF. NOTE: I know a few people are a fan of making their devices beep and flash. But realize doing this on a massive scale reduces reliability of the Insteon network and also impacts the ISY Series Controller as you noted also.
  3. This was done quite a while ago in response to those who use dimmers. Instead of seeing only On, Off, it would show a percentage of on level. But I agree anything that is a relay should only display an option of On/Off because it makes no sense to have 1-100% when the device is not a dimmer.
  4. Hello, If you have an electronic meter that uses ZigBee protocol and your POCO is one of many utilities listed as supporting the ISY-994 ZS. Then you can use this model to read the energy from the meter and craft programs to meet your needs. Another aspect is demand response which applies to the ZS model. If your POCO is not one of the listed companies participating in allowing the ISY Series Controller the next option is to purchase a ISY-994 IZ. This model will allow you to connect a Brultech ECM-1240 or a Green Eye Monitor (GEM) to the ISY Controller. You will see 7 to 32 channels which you can then craft programs to react to your environment and command those Insteon devices to turn on / off. One thing to note about going the route of the meter option from the POCO. As far as I am aware you're only going to see the total energy from the meter for what ever period of minutes, hours, days, etc. There is no method to see down to the circuit level and in my eyes is really a waste of time and effort. This is why if you're even going to begin this great journey then I would highly suggest you invest in a Brultech GEM. The Brultech GEM offers 32 discreet energy, 8 Temperature, 4 Pulse channels which can monitor water / gas. If you're interested and want to know a lot more you may follow this link: http://www.brultech.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=929 The above resource outlines all of the products and more. Along with ongoing development of many new products which in many ways integrate well with the ISY Series Controller. This install thread details many aspects of the set up, pitfalls, and trouble shooting. This is another related link about the Brultech Dash Box and what it offers in complimenting the energy data being monitored: http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/13801-dash-box-state-variables-now-supported/
  5. Rick, Based on your reply that is perfect!
  6. Hello Rick, Normally its best practice to manually change and configure the KPL to 6 to 8. Then, add it into the ISY Series Controller this ensures no conflicts when programming is done.
  7. All of the relevant information is in this forum: http://forum.universal-devices.com/forum/15-current-release-betas-and-bug-reports/
  8. No, you need to download it and load it in to the ISY Series Controller and follow the steps outlined in the announcement page.
  9. What this fine man said and its FREE!
  10. That's unfortunate, as I am sure Wes is still working on development for the Android platform. In the interim if shelling out $39.99 for the little HUB is not too much this might be a stop gap method. Nothing wrong with going that route for remote access and viewing. Since this is a IP camera I am unsure why you don't simply port forward the camera so you can access the feed? Does the camera not have mini hosted server inside?
  11. Mobilinc would allow you to see your HD camera.

    "wattage" field

Hello Dave, That is correct, if you wish to know the *wattage* or any value a state variable must be used to see and store that number. At that time you can than take advantage of that information and craft programs to react to it. It was suggested (not confirmed) that in the upcoming 5.XX Beta firmware the software will allow end users to relay (push) those state variable to other 3rd party cloud hosted sites. In my use case if this is true my intent is to push all of my temperature / humidity readings to Smart Energy Groups (SEG). This would allow me to graph, chart, plot these readings for historic review etc. As I am sure you can relate seeing a static number only goes so far even reacting to it. Its about aggregating that information so it can be recalled and know if any changes you have done has improved / or has not to the environment. This is where I am right now on the last leg of full environmental control, monitoring, and reactive elements.

    "wattage" field

Understood, based on your reply and the information provided. The ISY can not provide the energy values you seek with out a 3rd party device like Z-Wave. Or a energy monitor that pushes the data to the ISY like the Brultech ECM-1240, Green Eye Monitor (GEM). Other people have simply used RPi's that send *State Variables* to the ISY which in a round about fashion allows you to see energy values and make programs to take advantage of such. I do a combination of the two above listed already.

Can you provide a little bit of back ground of what ISY you have and what fields you speak of.
  15. Hello Michel, To be clear, your reply applies to the Pro version in that it will use by default TLS 1.1 Unless you meant you're going to upgrade all none Pro users to this default level? As your previous replies indicated it was unfair to those customers who spent more to acquire said features etc. This position has not changed has it? 16. From previous replies from UDI the none pro was released to meet a budget price point. But, I also agree security isn't something that a person should have to trade off, or have to consider. It will be very interesting to see what happens in a few years when the default certificate encryption must be 1028 -2048 bits. Will they continue to sell the none pro version in knowing it won't operate on various mail servers / browsers?? This was seen in the financial, government, web sites which stopped supporting lower versions of 5.XX IE web browsers etc.
  17. Its a little surprising but not at the same time. Its like some Insteon products are release and drop and forever left in a void. Smart Linc, HUB, Energy Monitor, Synchro Linc, iMeter Solo, etc
  18. On the ISY? Configurations -> Settings.
  19. To be fair to Smartlabs I do understand why the firmware is not user flashable. It would put the company at too much risk assuming the device was bricked etc. There are many ways to avoid such problem which I detailed out before in another thread. Having said this, it in no way removes the fact many of these Gen 1 products simply need to be avoided for quite awhile. Having consumers be a Beta tester for a public offering is not the way to go. There is little wiggle room when it has to do with ones home etc. There must be a formal process in which a user can ship back their wares for a reflash. This assumes its a firmware issue opposed to a hardware related matter. In many cases the two year warranty period does cover the end user but this is very little solace when there is zero movement to improve the product. I truly feel sorry for those who have lived through this issue with this TSTAT. Its not as bad as the Venstar TSTAT's where the Insteon RF adapter would bombard the power line with endless junk.
  20. The real problem is, when they do update the firmware it basically leaves those with existing units in the dirt. I've had discussions about why Smartlabs doesn't want to make firmware user doable. But, they should at the very least offer a method to ship it back for a reflash. This is why I avoid key products from Smartlabs because they are not a leader in those areas. ie. TSTAT's, Alarms.
  21. I believe using both and just applying filters to the e-mail is the best balance of receipt and record keeping. If the tower isn't able to send the sms in an allotted time its dropped. Its service provider has their own time and threshold before doing so. E-mail is the same where they try for so many hours / days before sending you a failed delivery notification. With e-mail you always have a electronic hard copy you can reference to. I use both and duplicate others and simply create a mail filter to pass it along to a archive folder. Doing this allows you to have historic review and if required trouble shooting events based on the time stamps.
  22. Hello Bert, Since the DB can send state variables to the ISY it is a great alternate solution for those already invested into Z-Wave and can not have the Zigbee card installed at the same time. I also pushed to have this feature because it allowed all channels to be exposed and available for use in programs. Working with Brultech my ultimate goal has been to add more features and functions sadly missing from the current Energy Monitor offering. Also to remove some of the development dependencies from UDI as they are hard at work in other areas such as firmware 5.XX. In the next 11 months you're going to see more features and capabilities within the DB. As I push for more unification of core HA / network attributes. Generator: I have used many Appliance Links which upon power loss stay in the off position. This has been my solution to allow a two tiered load shedding fail over solution. My system already has a load shedding feature but is never called to duty because the generator is over sized and will never be over loaded. An Insteon On/Off Relay module may be the solution for you. Please report back success / failure as I am sure others may be Interested also. Ideals are peaceful - History is violent
  23. Hello Bert, Answers in line . . . Please let me know if you require more information as it pertains to the GEM / DB.
  24. Make sure you're using the link provided in 4.2.23 to access the ISY and not a older version.
  25. Not sure if this is remotely related but you did purchase the $1.00 Z-Wave activation firmware right? Also try to clear the Java cache selecting all options and reboot the system. Please note you need to download the latest ISY launcher or the link for the firmware installed. Otherwise strange access and screen population will be seen. Also if this is on a Mac please follow the link which Michel provided to Xathros in 4.2.23 Ideals are peaceful - History is violent
