Is the modified HUB using the same 915 Mhz carrier wave? If not it won't work as its on a totally different frequency. If your modified HUB is in fact using the same 915 Mhz frequency it may very well be the device is not supported in the HUB. This was seen on another modified HUB by a member here . . . NOTE: If the HUB is operating on 50 Hz power line its almost a given the RF frequency won't be 915 Mhz.

OK, let's start with some basics here shall we . . . 1. Where do you live? Canada, USA, Other? 2. What exact model motion sensor are you using provide a direct link from SH. 3. What is the power / frequency your area uses?

Almost all Insteon devices being sold today are dual band. If the place of residence has no dual band hardware than a AP / RE must be in place to translate the MS RF signal to the 2413S PLM. NOTE: This assumes the 2413S PLM is not with in the RF distance of the motion sensor.

Generally speaking its best practice to use scenes where ever possible. The reliance on programs for complex scene management will leave the home in a unknown state should there ever be a power issue. Even though the bulk of the members here aren't geared to think about their home as a system. Its always best practice to plan and assume for the worst case scenario. Failure to do so will impact the home, family, and the over all WAF - Assuming it matters to you!

I don't really follow what you're asking considering the manual you indicated is for a single button paddle RL2? The options you see in the ISY Series Controller assume its for a 4 / 8 button RL2.

Yes, that is correct. Please also note several of the devices you noted up above are only (Single Band) devices. If after a factory hard reset you still can not add and create scenes via the ISY Series Controllers. Please ensure the following house cleaning steps have been done: 1. Ensure the RL2 is fully charged regardless if its new. 2. Adding: Under the *Link Management* tab up above select the appropriate RL2 in question. Ensure you follow the pop up messages that follow and confirm the RL2 is indeed in linking mode by the flashing red LED. 3. Place the RL2 next to the 2413S PLM or any dual band device. 4. Sometimes you have to use the other two methods to add the RL2 which is the two whirling blue / yellow arrows vs the *New Insteon* device option. 5. RF Noise: As an aside this isn't very common but if you have baby monitors, older portable house phones which operate on the older 900 Mhz frequency please ensure you unplug them while the above steps are in progress. 6. Lastly, if your ISY Series Controller has lots of network / programs actively running please disable them as this sometimes causes the controller to slow down and time out in the adding process.

Best practice is to always hard reset any device upon receipt or if its acting strange. Ensure you remove the device from the controller first before doing so. Some devices surprisingly require more than one hard reset to finalize the process so keep this in mind.

To further add on to what Larry noted up above - best practices is to have the bulk of the Insteon network using scenes. Doing so ensures devices will operate if the controller is off line. Programs are intended to add conditional logic or make a device behave differently from its native operations.

To further add to Brian H's comment many if not all Z-Wave devices do not support *Instant Status* therefor their current state must also be queried.

Hello Matt, Not trying to confuse the issue here but the Query at start up would indeed identify the current state of a device. The second issue you need to identify is whether or not the Insteon devices you have concern over have what is known as *Last Known State* Meaning, if the device was on and power went out - upon restore of utility power that same device would turn back on and vise versa. Some older Insteon devices would either go off if it was powered on vs others would react in the opposite fashion. Also, you can use one of several methods that works best for your use case like query a scene / device in the program or use *Responding*.

Hello Matt, One of the options under the programs section is *Run at startup*. Please note having too many programs initializing during a reboot process will add delays to the controller when its querying the Insteon network. This can be from five minutes to almost an hour . . .

Would you be able to offer a little more insight about the use case for a better reply? As there is no direct benefit of having one single device in scene vs it being on its own. The only time this premise is not true is some older devices would not respond unless placed in a scene. Meaning direct management would not operate as expected from the ISY Series Console. This has no relations to direct linking in the purest sense though just to be clear.

Not to completely derail this fine thread but the problem is when a fire fighter enters a home which uses these beam materials. When a fire condition exists these engineered beams not only burn quicker but much hotter than normal 2x12" solid wood planks which are sandwiched together. Thus when said fire fighter is walking around unbeknownst to him the floor gives way. This issue has caused quite a few deaths in the fire fighter community and Government is pondering a rule, law, ordinance which states any home using said engineered beams must have a simple (common) label affixed to the door or side of the entrance way. This in a round about way lets the fire fighter use alternate means or techniques to fight the fire or traverse the area in question. Clear as mud?

With anything there will always be pros / cons as it was with for AFCI, GFCI, Sumps, etc. Back in the day the technology simply wasn't ready and most times this came off as a money grab by the various industries pushing said safety devices etc. This hick town I live in now only in the last seven years or so adopted fire break building codes. Meaning way back in the day if you had an attached garage the separating wall didn't need to use X-rated drywall to protect the home?!?! Anyways as per usual human life needed to be lost before people grabbed a brain to do otherwise. Right now this same hick town is still hoeing and humming about whether to enforce a rule where any home that uses engineered support beams must have a placard on the front of the entry door etc. I am sure it will take more human loss before they get a brain that it only makes sense.

In our town local ordinances have been put into place where water / chemical suppression is required for condo's, side by side (Town house), and some HOA's. Obviously apartments, business buildings all use water suppression systems but hope very much this trend to include a fire system to residential homes takes off. This is where places like the United States clearly lead the market and truly see the benefit.

Either is mine but for those who have common water suppression systems need to ensure code is followed. For those of us who use halon suppression for component protection along with chemical agents for wide and immediate fire abatement it's a good compromise for using water . Also keep in mind some of the units fail closed upon power loss. That should never be the case for the main water line. Also note these devices may never be placed before a fire suppression system which supplies water. Both of these points are rarely if ever considered by those who install them. Are you using one of the Alpha 5.XX firmware releases and have you confirmed the correct UI and firmware? Looks to be your list is called *Your Devices* opposed to the Insteon / X10.

[emoji41] For those of us who have come from an industrial setting lots of these checks and balances are just basic SOP. No magic here it's just experience with lots of common sense. Other things to consider is how these valves fail when interrupted or see a voltage swing. Some will fail open while others will return to their last known state. Anyone considering doing this sort of thing really need to test, validate, and follow up to ensure the correct response is seen. For me I can totally understand the whole steamy shower issue because it costs money, introduces fire safety, and is the leading cause to mold. I simply gave the water bill to the little monster! [emoji849] Also, one thing you need to check is how much drift the valve will see over the course of XXX full cycles. Even though the OP is just turning the valve open / closed for his use case. Those intending to use this device or similar on the main water line really need to confirm how this device behaves over extended use. Lastly, it should be noted confirmation of the actual open / close state when the manual dial is used should not count on the red hash mark as the final indicator position. [emoji107] Because if you look after 100 plus cycles the red hash mark won't align to a real world open / closed position.
