I don't recall if the beep and LED are on by default when first powered up as its been a long time since I installed one. Regardless, the reason I mention the beep and LED status indicator is that it will assist the installer to visually and aurally to hear the unit is functioning correctly. Obviously, you need to take great care that he is down from the fan before you even attempt to remote control the unit. This may sound funny and odd to say at first blush. But rest assured I have seen and read of a few people getting a fan blade in the face / head!

It should also be noted that you inform the installer to ensure the fan is set to *High*. You should also ensure the beep and LED's remain on until he tells you all is *Good 2 Go*. Then, you can turn off the beep and LED to ensure light leak isn't seen . . .

I believe anyone who is serious about long term performance should consider the example outlined by Stu. Use either a Micro or (ILL) Inline Linc if it still has the sense wire? In the past the older ILL's had a sense wire but recall this was slowly phased out in newer models. Having said this, I've had several Insteon motions sensors deployed outside for more than seven years. One has been installed in my garage for about five years and hasn't skipped a beat. The other is mounted to a 25 foot multi purpose pole and has been exposed to +40 to -45'C weather for 7 plus years. Its fair to say my use case is well outside what the device is spec'd for and can't throw stones at Smartlabs if it failed. It should be noted the device also doesn't have an official IP rating so this needs to be kept in mind.

If the green 0101 continue to appear you need to move that remote as far as possible from the PLM. This strange behavior has been seen and noted many times here in the forums. Unfortunately, no one can define what *Far* is because each Insteon network and environment is different and unique. Some users have literally went outside to the garage to make the remote link and update. NOTE: Some have also tried a hard reset of the unit - followed by the restore which proved helpful.

Have you performed a *Restore Device* on the Remote Linc?

What I have found in my environment is incandescent bulbs dim very smoothly. I've tested many type and brands of LED lights in the past and have noticed some brands reflect a stepped dimming. Whereas other LED bulbs mimicked almost exactly what a standard incandescent bulb does. I was more curious to know if the *Visual* dimming transition from 0-100% was similar as I stated up above. The 32 steps you indicated are the positions the system can render. That has nothing to do with how smooth the bulbs will dim per say.

Jay, Specifically using that brand of LED was it smooth or did it have a stepped dimming? As always thank you!

No, no . . . I wasn't weary about the product - It was more the fact they stated v2 would offer some of the items of interest to me. You and I have done our fair share of Alpha / Beta projects so you know it comes down to is this for me? Will it meet me near and long term needs? At this juncture I prefer to spend my money once and right the first time around. I have more than enough (Stuff) which sits idle or collecting dust because it never fully materialized as the maker(s) claimed. I do believe the product has legs but at this point want to see how it evolves in the next 18 months. I have no problem dishing out 50% more than what you paid for the device so long as it works as advertised and is open source etc. Also, presently I have an aversion to products that use any kind of battery . . . I have no less than 20 types of batteries and keep on hand dozens of them for use. There is a long term cost for all of this and right now my goals are to limit or reduce that reliance on primary cells. I have also started on a path to reduce my RF exposure within my environment. I know lots of this sounds like *Tin Foil* hat commentary but rest assured the reasons are sound.

Well, some random Face Book comment came to my girl friend. Which by the way I don't use or have Face Book, Twatter, etc. Anyways someone said if you take the stalk of a lettuce / bok chow. And place in water it will regrow . . . I didn't even think that was possible considering it was cut at the bottom and in transit for days, week, etc. But low and behold placing the cut end into water actually let the damn thing regrow?!?! So my plan is to see if doing so will supplement our grocery costs vs having more to eat at a discount.

Jay, That is great feedback so far but can you let us know if the dimming was smooth in a gradual manner? [emoji848] I know the rest is highly dependent on the LED being used / ballast.
