  1. Thanks! So you just have to disable it somehow once the grass goes dormant? How do you know when?
  2. The green lights are on when the garage doors open when they shouldn't. How would a comm cause the device to do the opposite of what it should. Seems like a comm issue would just cause it not to act at all.
  3. I thought the would be an easy question to answer. Just wondering if it still runs in the winter when it's not needed? Thanks!
  4. Sure! Sometime in the fall/winter depending on where you are located grass will go dormant. http://www.ehow.com/list_6957876_lawn-tips-winter.html If using the EZFlora/EZRain and the irrigation module to water your grass automatically via Evapotranspiration, what happens during the winter? Will it continue to water your grass after the grass has gone dormant? I hope this makes sense.

    Program Issue

Thanks for the reply. The economy setting is the "else" statement. Not sure if that's the problem or not.
  6. What happens when the grass goes dormant if using the irrigation module to water your grass via an EZFlora? I don't think the grass needs water when it goes dormant. Does the irrigation module continue to water the grass thus wasting water? Thanks!

    Program Issue

I just manually updated the ISY to the latest version and noticed one of my thermostats had adjusted to an economy mode due to the program below. How can I change this program such that it doesn't do this every time I update the software? The program is supposed to adjust the thermostat when my cleaning lady disarms the Elk M1G and again when she arms the system as she leaves. If On Thu From 8:00:00AM To 4:00:00PM (same day) And Elk Output 'Output 065' is On And $i.Every.Other.Thursday is 0 Then Set 'Thermostats / Downstairs Stat' 74° (Cool Setpoint) Set 'Thermostats / Downstairs Stat' 70° (Heat Setpoint) Else Set 'Thermostats / Downstairs Stat' 85° (Cool Setpoint) Set 'Thermostats / Downstairs Stat' 64° (Heat Setpoint) I guess updating the ISY software runs the "if" part of this program and turns my thermostat to the economy setting. How can I keep this form happening?
  8. Thx...I'll move the transformer a lil to the left. I wish there was a box to put all this in to make it look cleaner. That may cause heat issues as well. Any ideas anyone?
  9. I'm using 2 EZFloras since I have 9 zones. It creates quite the eye sore. Is yours this ugly? Any ideas on how to make it look a little cleaner? Thanks!
  10. Correct....then sensor is on when the door is closed. -There are no other programs that call for the garage doors to close. -The sensor must have been off when sunset occurred I think is it. Not sure why the sensor would be off if the door is closed. Any ideas why the garage door sensor is off only sometimes when the garage door is closed? Thanks.
  11. I have the following program for each of my 2 garage doors... If Time is Sunset And Status 'Garage Doors / Garage1 - Sensor' is Off Then Send Notification to 'My text' content 'Garage1' Wait 5 minutes Set 'Garage Doors / My Garage - Relay' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Sometimes this actually opens the garage door. Like tonight...my garage door was closed but at sunset it opened. This happened to my wife's garage door a couple weeks ago when we were out of town for Thanksgiving. Her garage door was open for 2 days. Any idea what the problem may be?
  12. Ok...I'll try that! Thanks!
  13. I'm using the following sprinkler program... If On Sun, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri Time is 8:00:00AM And Module 'Climate' Temperature > 32 °F Then Send Notification to 'My e-mail' content 'Sprinklers Started' Set 'Sprinkler System / 7-Back Flowers and Trees' On Wait 10 minutes Set 'Sprinkler System / 7-Back Flowers and Trees' Off Set 'Sprinkler System / 2-Front Middle' On Wait 5 minutes Set 'Sprinkler System / 2-Front Middle' Off Send Notification to 'My e-mail' content 'Sprinklers Stopped' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Please note: Since I have 9 zones I had to use 2 EZFLoras. The problem is when the program starts it sends me a "sprinkler started" notification but it very rarely sends me the "sprinklers stopped" notification. Since I'm at work during that time I never know if it really ran or not. Why is it not working/sending me the "sprinklers stopped" notification? Thanks!

    Weather

Yes but for those of us that have weather stations too far away we must look into other posibilities even if they are not as accurate. Thanks for your response!

    Weather

Just wondering if this isn't a bit of overkill (price wise) to control irrigation? For the last year we use one of those Toro automated sprinkler controllers. While it does not take into consideration the wind and humidity, it does measure sunlight level, rain, and temperature and then adjusts the controller to vary the amount of watering. For our situation, it works beautifully at using just the right amount of water as dependent on the environmental conditions. We do have Davis weather station in the back yard, but it is independent of any other systems we use. Yes, adding a weather station may be a bit overkill. It would cost me about $1,000 to set this up such that a Davis weather station could interact with the irrigation module through weatherbug. I'm going to look into other ways to save on my water bill due to irrigating. ie. moisture sensors. I'll compare the moisture sensor route to the weather station route. My hunch is the weather station route will be much more expensive but would provide much more info that could be useful for other programs outside of the irrigation purpose. Thanks for sharing your Toro gadget info. I'll look into that.
  16. I found out... The required weather variables for evapotranspiration is Elevation, high/low temp, wind speed, pressure, dew point, and today's rain.

    Weather

In case anyone searches this and wants to know the same thing. The required weather variables for evapotranspiration is Elevation, high/low temp, wind speed, pressure, dew point, and today's rain.
  18. What causes the temp for my wireless Insteon thermostat to go blank on the ISY periodically? The humidity doesn't have this issue...it doesn't go blank like the temp. Any ideas on how to fix this from happening so much? Thanks!
  19. I'm thinking about buying a Davis weather station (Wireless Vantage Pro2). -If I purchase one of these and the software required to make it a backyard station so it uploads info to weatherbug will it provide enough info to use in calculating evapotranspiration? I have the climate and irrigation modules for calculating evapotranspiration and my closest station is over 10 miles away I'm looking for another way. -What info is required from a backyard weather station or any other station for that matter, to calculate evapotranspiration? I would hate to spend all that money to find out I still can't use evapotranspiration to save $$$ on my water bill. Thanks!!!

    Notifications

Is there any way to get an e-mail notification to send me the moon phase daily?
  22. Everything installed ok but when I cleared my temporary files I got 3 texts messages from 3 programs. I have a text sent when someone with a code to our Elk M1G other than my wife and I arms or disarms the system. For some reason when I cleared the temporary files, 3 outputs changed state triggering 3 texts stating those users had left the house (armed the system). Seemed strange. I then ran tests using those user's codes to see what will happen now when they enter (disarm) or exit (arm). When they enter (disarm) the outputs change to "on" like they are supposed to but when they leave (arm) the output does not change to "off" like it should/has in the past. Thoughts?
  23. Guys I need your help fine tuning my latest project... http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=9833 The goal is to get an email notification to several of my neighbors in the Home Owners Association that are interested in the temperature of our 8 acre pond. As of now I have several programs and notifications like this one If Time is 7:00:00AM And Status 'Thermostats / 1F.0F.93 - Main' >= 30° (Temperature) And Status 'Thermostats / 1F.0F.93 - Main' <= 39° (Temperature) Then Send Notification to 'My e-mail' content 'Water Temp 30-39F' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') As you can see this just sends a notification stating the temp is between X and Y. I would like it to send a more precise temp reading instead of a 10 degree spread. How can I do this without having a ton of programs and notifications? I suppose I could make something like 70 programs and 70 notifications to cover each degree from 25F to 95F but I'm hoping there is another way. Any ideas? Thanks!
  24. This thread will show you how to get water temp (aquarium, pool, pond, etc) into your Insteon/ISY. In my case with a pond it will help me catch more fish. Using the new Insteon wireless thermostat http://www.smarthome.com/2441ZTH/INSTEON-Wireless-Thermostat/p.aspx?green=21036187435 and the waterproof sensor http://www.smarthome.com/2433A3/Waterproof-Temperature-Sensor-for-INSTEON-Wireless-Thermostat/p.aspx you can monitor the temp of any water reservoir. I was told the wireless thermostat would not send the waterproof sensor's temp to the ISY or any software for that matter. And they were right until I came up with this solution. I did some testing, cutting, and soldering and fixed the limitation. Basically, you have to cut the existing thermocouple (see pics) and solder the waterproof sensor wire to the thermostat in the same location. Then put the waterproof sensor in the water. You can add up to 100 feet of 22 gauge wire to the waterproof sensor. Now my neighbor and I get an e-mail every morning telling us the water temp of our 8 acre pond. Using customized notifications I can get the e-mail to tell us what type of lure to use based on the water temp. This is based on guidelines like this... http://www.amazon.com/Bass-Minder-Sticker/dp/B004RDMT7S/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1352503719&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=bassminder. This will allow us to catch more fish and chart the water temp. I hope this helps some of you!!! Enjoy!!!
