Any hardwired zwave devices would work. I prefer using receptacles so that I don't have to worry about things getting unplugged or moved around (this can greatly affect your system). You can also use different plug in modules such as lamp modules or appliance modules. Aeotech has their 500 series range extender as well. The main thing is to make sure that whatever you buy is zwave plus

I wish I could help you with that one. I haven't used them. I don't think it matters as long as it's magic home. The software should be the same. Any strip light can be used however. Just make sure they are rgbww. That way you have full color and white

Any of them can be used with the magic home nodeserver. You'll just need the controller connected to your choice of led strip lights. There is also a hue and lifx nodeserver. For places I wanted color, I use hue

I like having multiple approaches to control. We use ours for ambiance in the evening with a basic timer, actual light when cooking via our cooking scene and motion control late at night should someone pass through. I use a diffuser as well. Besides the cleanup, it simply looks better and keeps you from seeing the LEDs reflection on the countertop

1) Having color isn't a bad thing. It allows you to "tune" the lights to your environment as well as better ambiance when things are dark. Setups such as the one larryllix linked to can also be cheaper and easier to install than your typical setups. 4) If your driver is wired directly to the load of a kpl it could work directly with your lights. Otherwise you will need your driver plugged into a dimmable insteon device such as a dimmable plug-in module or dimmable outlet. Most likely, you will not need the dimmable ballast. Just a dimmable plug-in module. However it comes down to what items you end up choosing. Back when I used to use magnitude, I never once needed the dimmable ballast. It was always plugged into a dimmable outlet since the transformer itself required line voltage. 5) it does not change my equation. LEDs are not 1 size fits all. Just because 1 brand works does not mean anything will work.... especially when you talk about transformers. In addition to how well they dim, you can run into noise issues, as well as a high pitched whine.

You dont need any programs or variables to accomplish what you are trying to do. Make sure all of your devices are configured properly in each controller as well as the scene itself. You would then add the scene to your portal as a device (lights) and you will have control over everything whether its from an app, locally, or voice. The only thing you wont be able to do is dim your scene via voice. If that is needed, you will then need to use programs and variables to keep things in sync.

No. There is a zwave switch that can do that if you have any zwave devices. It's the Hs200 (I believe that's the model#) from homeseer

I have the pro myself though it's only use would be convenience when it comes to adding far away devices that are already installed such as locks. Even with WiFi based devices, as long as they're on network, the isy could talk to them. I do agree with you, the more options the better.

I agree with what Teken says. I would add the other devices before trying to do something with the motion sensor. In order to clear the updates for now, put the sensor in linking mode>right click on the device> choose write updates while it's close to the isy. With the lock that's 60' away, you'll probably need a couple more repeaters to ensure a strong network. These can be other zwave devices such as plug in lamp modules or outlets. While things can work with your current setup, you'll find that you'll constantly have communication issues over time

It's not a perfect setup and may not fit everyone. I like it because I still have fan speed control. I just have to switch once the fan is on. Prior to that, we would simply set medium and if that was to much or not enough we'd adjust after the fact anyway, so it hasn't been a big change anyway We do have them tied in with our ecobees so that they'll kick on before it starts to feel uncomfortable but before the AC kicks in. Once the AC kicks in, they'll run for a few minutes and turn off.

I've started doing them for customers and I haven't heard a complaint yet. I give them 6 months to decide whether they want to keep it or not. Should they not like it, then I'll replace at no cost to them. So far no one has swapped out

That is correct. To be honest, I think we've changed speeds 2 or 3 times since we went to this method. While I didn't have problems with the fanlinc, the extra speeds our fan has makes for a better experience. I wouldn't say lower since the fans were much more expensive. Lol
