I'm understand your frustration. I won't use battery-only devices because of the way they work. The Insteon motion sensor is a joke and at best it is poorly designed occupancy sensor.

I like Insteon except battery powered devices. I wish SmartHome made module that operated at 5 to 12 vac that I could add to my own devices.
That would solve a lot of my issues.
Mine unlocks when you open the door and locks when the door is closed.
There is a manual release on the lock as well as the door opener. Both can be operated from the same location.
The main controller has a button to disable remote operation of the door and lock. With a little DIY this could be made even more secure.
I've been really happy since I found the ISY. It has made control much better. My system is more for control than automation though I do several items automated.
