Yes, you can. http: is rest, and you can use rest to turn devices on and off The developers guide discusses how to do it.

One of the Insteon Thermostats would be the fastest, easiest path to integration with the ISY. Which thermostat depends on what type of system you have; gas vs heatpump. The Insteons can handle multi stage systems and can be controlled by the ISY. The nest, like the venstar colortouches and others, can be made to work with the IYS but additional software, and integration steps and in some cases a server are required. For the Insteon, you'll need need power provided by the furnace to power the stat, or a local 24v HVAC powersupply for each if there is not power provided. If you are gas, not heat pump, and comfortable its compatible with your system, there is a 4 pack special at smarthome right now, and their black friday 20% off is available until Tuesday

I agree that it points to problems with contract manufacturing, and the problem is qc related. It seems like the inspection and lab testing of the final product is not rigorous, or the testing methodology does not parallel powerline reality. This is neither a complicated nor sophisticated assembly. I believe visual inspection could expose component substitution of caps in this case. Its common practice for electronics manufactures to fully outsource the the manufacturing of their components in a tiered supplier model, yet deliver consistent product quality. QC is a cost of business. "You get what you inspect, not what you expect" was hand me down advice from a senior engineer years ago.

My Insteon successes: I have lamplincs and inlinelincs from the beginning of insteon, still working perfectly. I had a USB PLM on homeseer that was well into its 3rd year when I came to ISY and sold it. My current PLM is a refurb and continues to work perfectly. My Insteon failures: I had the misfortune to buy most of my keypads in 2011-2012 timeframe and had to replace most of them within the past few years. And 2 PLMs die with in weeks of plugging them in. In summary, they can build quality product, but only do it part of the time: We know that they know that they have a problem. And they know that we know that they know. Everyone knows. That was step 1, awareness. Why aren't we getting to step 2? From what I can tell, it comes down to a handful of caps and a difference in product cost < 50 cents, and this only seems to happen part of the time..

You'll need to break it in pieces, Can you use Test from Settings and Groups a number of times while having gmail open to your sent box? Does it consistently get to gmail quickly, every time. If that works consistently and quickly, its the link to verizon.

Reviewed mine and I have a mix. Older, 1st generation lamplincs do not show up red. I have a newer appliance link, it does not do this. I do have one newer lamplinc, and it does show up red like yours. Its a responder only to a keypad key, and a scene. Paul

I would suggest trying again picking v1 and/or v2 from the drop down list. Paul

How did you add it, Linking Mode, or NEW Insteon Device? There are a number of options for the Heatpump version, even multiple models, Thermostat 2.0 (?) . Have you tried manually adding it using one of these?
-
Did you disable them last year? I just got mine out yesterday for this year and step 1 was to re-enable. I don't want false errors the rest of the year when they are not plugged in.

Yep. Keep that cart loaded up so they see shoppers with their hand on the mouse....

Cant say enough good things about the ISY994ZIR

Barry, based on your post, I took a stroll down memory lane to my prior HA package's forum, that I migrated from over a year ago. I found a thread querying users, like I was, as to why they hadn't upgraded to the latest base HA package version, There were 2 basic issues: The developers of the HA package led us into Insteon in the 2005 timeframe, but over-extended in zwave develpment and essentially dropped insteon and selling insteon products. Its further confusing that they let a great developer take over the insteon plugin, but then released a very minimalist insteon plugin that is not supported. The process to upgrade to the latest version of base package was the same as starting over. So I treated is as such and investigated the alternatives. I know that there are hard tradeoffs, its how they are managed that matters. Over a year later, its still clear that choosing and migrating to the ISY was the best decision I could have made. Paul -
Both. The new plms are supposed to fix issues with cheap capacitors in previous versions that have been shown to fail at around 2 years. Not everyone has these failures. I had a USB PLM on homeseer that lasted well over 3 years and I was able to sell it when I came to ISY. It comes down to your ability to weather a failure. If you can afford wait to order and receive a new PLM if yours goes bad, then hang on to the $$. If your automation can't be down 4 - 7 days, then have a backup ready.

That's a completely new one for me. I've not heard of insteon signals causing motors to change speeds or any other non controlled effects. Sounds like there are things to look in to there but not sure where to start.
-
Insteon powerline signals are orders of magnitude less powerful than AC current powering the furnace. That sounds like an onboard, internal furnace problem or sensor wiring problem. If you found specific web links about this problem, I would research those well and mention them. Since there is precedent for the problem you are having online without insteon, I would suggest not bringing it up, it will turn into an investigative rat hole.

Hi K Firrmware development for the 99 was sunset a while back, maybe over a year ago... no changes or fixes will be coming. The ISY Portal and Echo integration are being built on the 994i and recent firmware for it. The network module has been improved regularly in newer firmwares as well. I would upgrade to the 994i, get that working, and begin your echo adventure after that. Paul

I would try a factory reset and then use the admin console to restore device and retest. Sometimes insteon devices lose their way and need to be reprogrammed, and its a relatively quick procedure. The other possibility is that its going bad, but I have not witnessed this particular behavior before. What year did you buy it? Between 2011-2012, these had some manufacturing problems. Paul
-
Teken Yep, that one still feels like a taunt. I am very fortunate that I finished all my keypad projects a while back. There are a couple of places I wanted to simplify functionally and go 8 - 6, but it means more buttons, so I've decided against, for this reason Paul
-
I've been watching this all year. Apparently there has not been enough threat from zwave yet, and Smartlabs offering an integrated solution with the echo must be very attractive for those that want to take it out of the box and get it working, so more people are buying. Things seem to be on their side for the moment. Basic items like switchlinc dimmers and relays, plus the items in the image, are 10% cheaper at Menards. If I have a new project that needs one of these items, or need an emergency replacement of a staple insteon device, its faster and cheaper for me to go brick an mortar. They do keep a limited number of things in stock so for other items I wait for the black Friday sale. And as Bipto pointed out in a related recent post, I'm waiting until the very end of the sale before committing. In the past, things get more lucrative the longer you wait. Get that cart loaded up though, so they see your finger hovering over the mouse button

What do you have in mind? Its ok usually to have multiple different scenes, with many of the same participants, and use them by function when needed
-
Hi 0% = Off, 100% is on. So if its being set at 0%, its working as expected. If dimmers are involved, percentages in between will be some level of dim. If this isn't what you meant, can you post an image of the admin console screen with the participants in it? Paul Edit: Some switches bought in bundles are preset with scenes in them. If the above isn't it, I would factory reset them, and then 'restore device' to each
-
Agreed Teken It is certainly true that thermostat location, vent /damper adjustment and active humidity control are much bigger factors in comfort than brands of thermostat and remote control features.. and no matter how much you spend on a thermostat, it can't over come basic HVAC system issues. I will say for sure going to active humidification control, to overcome dry northern winters, made a noticeable difference health wise for us last year, and periodic fan cycle in "between" seasons as well to filter allergens out of the air. Are you sure your programs are ok, no continuous execution? You could tell by looking at admin console under programs, any of the program icons "flashing". If you look at the plm or the ISY in a normal state, are the lights blinking? If the above 2 are not the case, then you have some serious line noise coming from somewhere. I have a inlinelinc controlling noisy lowvoltage lights. They work 99% of the time, but fail the scene test almost always. I also had to put filters on one of my landscape lighting transformers for the same reason. Paul

Interesting. Don't wireless devices send 2 on's and 2 off's sequentially? I'm pretty sure my MS does.
-
I've noticed that before too when factory resetting insteon devices. I can delete a device, and not touch the programs and add it back in. The ISY programs "find" it when it returns, when the name is the same. I've never tried with a different name, don't know if that or the address is key in that association.

I've had that problem with several of mine, out of 5. There is a problem with some of them, usually associated with a particular manufacturing year. My defective ones were from the 2011-2012 time frame. I believe I've seen posts that they can be repaired if you are electronically inclined. I did not take that route, I replaced them. Factory resetting them sometimes helps for a while, but eventually the ones with those symptoms go bad. How old are they, you might be under warranty? Even if you're not, I would call that story in to SmartHome, if you bought them there. I've had luck by stating my case nicely but assertively. I can't hurt to try. Also, I would consider a whole house power conditioner on your panel if you don't have one. It reduces overvoltages and spikes that can harm insteon devices and other electronics. Paul
