In one case where the light controller was wired to the load, I added a Lutron motion sensor dimmer in parallel with the controller, set a a low level to function as a night light as needed. In a second location where the controller was in a different wall box, I used a Lutron non-dimming motion sensor wired to a Micro Module.

Yes, you can replace a 6-button KPL with an 8-butoon KPL. Any scene that involves the On/Off buttons will be replaced with button A on the 8-button KPL, button A becomes B, etc. That's because of the way Insteon keeps track of the buttons. by group number, not letter. The groups are 1-5 for the 6-button KPL and 1-8 for the 8-button KPL. After the swap, you'll have groups 6,7, and 8 unassigned.

I rarely if ever use the Dashboard, so I can't verify if I had individual control for both outlets of a 2663-222 with 4.4.6, but I certainly do with 4.5.1.

I have absolutely no problem using "open" or "close" with either devices or scenes (still on V1). But, those commands have never worked for me with programs. Others have posted success using "open" and "close" with programs and yet others have not had success. Any explanation why those command work for some but not for others?

Insteon 2441TH Using the ISY, I can: 1. Set the thermostat to heating or cooling or off no matter the current mode. 2. Adjust the set point up or down 1ºF in any mode. Using the portal, I can do both 1 and 2 vocally I cannot: 1. Determine the current set point. 2. Determine the current mode. But, I'll work on a solution for item 2. It shouldn't be hard as I take action (program) based on the current mode.

Protection obviates the need for retaliation.

I'm enjoying the same thermostat with voice https://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-Wi-Fi-Smart-Thermostat-Control/dp/B00EJIYUUU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1468390784&sr=8-2&keywords=RTH9590WF, but the Insteon thermostat provides infinitely more control using the ISY. I can even raise or lower the temperature vocally by 1º F (0.56º C) without concern whether the thermostat is in heat or cool mode. And I can change the mode, too.

No armament at all. Much better protection. If I revealed it, then it would no longer be better

Example: Button A = High Button B = Medium Button C = Low Button D = Off Scene High Button A Controller On Button B Responder Off Button C Responder Off Button D Responder Off FanLinc Motor Responder High

I have an upscale sound system where each component is likely more costly than most entire systems, but that had absolutely no influence on my decision to use multiple Echos and Dots. No matters how much I may yell at my stereo, it justs continues to play fantastic sounds. But, with the portal, I can tell the stereo what to do. I can also tell lights to turn on or off or even brighten or dim, open or close window coverings and even set them to a particular opening. I can also use my voice to adjust the room temperature and tell my wife that I'll do it myself.

Any scene with more than one controller is a virtual n-way configuration, so you would do more checking than not, thus adding to the steps required. More importantly, adding a feature uses space. Including an unnecessary feature, for example, turning on a scene instead of a device is a waste of space.

If you control a device, then only that device will respond. None of that specific device's links, neither controllers nor responders will be affected at all. If that were not the case, then you could easily create an infinite loop. If you want all the devices in a scene to respond, then you must control the scene, not any one of the devices in a scene. That also allows a device to respond differently to different controllers.
-
1. The warning indicates that scenes may be irrecoverably corrupt scenes. Scenes, by definition, involve more than one device. A factory reset will certainly restore the "grouped" device. but you'll probably need to factory reset each and every device that's a member of a scene involving that KeypadLinc button(s). Most likely a controlled will be confused. 2. Cleaning the process is easy, but tedious, Modify each scene to emulate the grouped buttons and delete the grouping.

I do. I did want voice control, so I purchased a Honeywell WiFi voice control thermostat which, BTW, now has an Echo skill. But, I'm unable to use my voice turn heating or cooling on or off. A few program let me do that with the insteon thermostat. Others may have the same capability, but I've never had a problem using Insteon thermostats. That includes Insteon wireless thermostats for each zone and a wireless thermostat dedicated to the bedroom fireplace. OK, maybe I don't love them, but I have no reason to dislike them

What are all the options set at? What are you using as a controller? Responder? Are you using scenes or programs?
-
The problem occurs if and when you make changes, most especially a reset. Read the warning. You may also encounter difficulties if you need to replace a device.

Most motion sensors are reliable. But battery powered device cannot be accurately queried unless they're in linking mode.
-
The MS is a battery power device. As such, it does not always correctly respond to a query unless put into linking mode. Most especially Status is not accurate for the MS, only Control is. Delete the sensor from your program (unless you use control as a trigger) and depend on the status of the controlled device(s).

Successfully linked ISY-Echo in one home. Fail in another.

Did you enable/activate the portal in Configuration? -
What does the log show? AFAIK, Z-Wave devices a not Insteon scene compatible.
-
I believe that larryflix is referring to Insteon and Z-Wave compatible thermostats that do not require access to the cloud (actually remote hard drives plus a service to access those drives). A WAN is not required, only your LAN.

You'll need the Z-Wave module to control Z-Wave devices. Insteon devices are native to the ISY and fairy easy to set up, so you may want to try an Insteon device or two or more.
-
Restore device should clear any links the ISY doesn't know about. A device cannot be deleted if it's in a folder. In that case, remove it from the folder first, then delete it. Right click for a bunch of options.

Nope. The Micro Module is not connected to the KeypadLinc at all. The Micro Module gets uninterrupted line and neutral and a button on the KeypadLinc is linked as a controller of the Micro Module.
