2342-242 unsupported device when adding
Good to see you found the problem. Too bad it was a Smarthome Insteon Module's QC failure.

RemoteLinc 2 added to scene then added Insteon Plug-In Appliance 2456S3 - now cannot program the 2456S3
The 2456S3 is an older Insteon module. Power line only communications. Depending on its revision I1 only communications. So lots of power line commands maybe passing between the 2456S3 and the ISY's PLM. Is the LED on the module on? Factory Reset is in the full manual but if you don't have it and can't find it. The factory-reset procedure can be used to clear the ApplianceLinc module’s memory and restore its factory default settings. This procedure will clear the unit of all INSTEON Links, and any programmed X10 Primary Address, or X10 Scene Addresses. 1. Before resetting an ApplianceLinc that has been linked to an INSTEON Controller, be sure to unlink it from the Controller first. See Unlinking ApplianceLinc from an INSTEON Controller, above. 2. Unplug ApplianceLinc for about 10 seconds. 3. While holding down the black SET Button on ApplianceLinc, plug it back in. 4. After plugging ApplianceLinc back in, continue to hold down the black SET Button for 3 seconds. 5. Release the black SET Button. 6. After several seconds, the ApplianceLinc module’s Status LED will turn on and the device you plugged in will come on, indicating that the factory reset is complete. ApplianceLinc is now reset to all the default settings and ready for fresh programming and use. Enabling or Disabling Local Control (Load Sensing) Local Control allows you to manually turn on the device you plugged into ApplianceLinc by using the switch on the device itself, without sending a command from an INSTEON or X10 Controller. When ApplianceLinc module’s controlled (bottom) outlet is turned off (with Local Control enabled), ApplianceLinc can “sense” that you are trying to turn on your device with the device’s built-in switch. When ApplianceLinc “senses” this, it will turn on its controlled (bottom) outlet automatically. Caution: With Local Control enabled, some devices have been known to turn on your ApplianceLinc after you have turned it off. Please use this feature with caution. • For product versions 4.0 or higher Local Control is disabled by default (reference version number on label on back of unit, for example V4.0). To enable Local Control: 1. Press and hold the black SET Button on ApplianceLinc for 3 seconds. The white Status LED will begin flashing to confirm that you are in setup mode. 2. “Triple tap” the black SET Button by quickly tapping it three times. 3. The status LED on ApplianceLinc will stop flashing and Local Control will be enabled. To disable Local Control, repeat steps 1-3, substituting a “double tap” instead of a “triple tap” in step

new install
If you have not found it yet. I would also say looking at the great wiki information along with help here. Will be a great help. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

Using insteon hub as PLM (yes it works)
Maybe a wise move to not do a How-To. I suspect since the 2245 has the same LNK354GN switching power supply chip. It probably has the same issues with the capacitors as the 2413S/U PLM and Revision 2 Access Points. Not being specified as OK in switching supplies.

Using insteon hub as PLM (yes it works)
Is the HUB the older 2242-222 or the later 2245-222? From the photo it looks more like the 2245-222 HUB. I have seen the 2242-222 mentioned here. Where someone had the network assembly removed and wired into a Serial Port PLM daughter board. If it is the newer 2245-222 can you give more details on where the serial interface was connected?

Replaced network, replaced ISY, lots of issues
Thank you for this information. I have seen similar reports from others also. Universal Devices is on the top of my provides outstanding support list.

Replaced network, replaced ISY, lots of issues
Even the old model 2412S power line only should work with an ISY994i. It also can supply power through the serial port connector to power it. Though it has a slower memory so things maybe slightly slower. We have seen the power supplies with an ISY controller. So trying one in some situations can correct things. Has a wide DC voltage range of 5Volts to 30Volts. Last time I looked UDI was selling a 12V 1 Amp replacement.

Shed door alerting
Glad to see you have had good results. Took me awhile to discover this myself. Mine are real early hardware revisions 4.5 and 4.6 Sirens . Long before ISY V5 firmware was released to support them. So I was not too sure if things changed if the presently sold Sirens have a later firmware.

Is anyone here afraid of Insteon disapearing?
I do remember for a short time. Smarthome did indicate a +2000 link database. The old 2412S PLM went from 417 Links to 2016 Links but with slower memory speed. Anything over around 800 Links and problems showed up. It has been 1000 Links for a long time. Well before 2.1 I do know for awhile the sales site said +2000 links. Around V2.1 and then quietly changed back to +1000. All I can say is my V2.1 has exact same 24LC64 memory chip on the daughter board. As my original V1.0 all the way to V2.5 2413S PLMs. If it was not a mistake. The +2000 link database was short lived.

Is anyone here afraid of Insteon disapearing?
There is a new Interface in the FCC Database. Bigger link database 1000-4000, can again power the ISY994i through the serial port connector, universal power supply, AC Input connector is a sub assembly and in theory could be changed for other parts of the world. USB,Serial Port and network port styes. Now if it ever sees the light of day I can't say.

R.I.P. ISY... What now..?
There are other posts here with similar problems. Fixed with a new supply. My original supply was a 5V .5 Amp. For one and 5V 1A for another one. UDI sells a 12V 1A replacement supply on its sales site. The ISY994i has a fairly wide DC input voltage range. 5V to 30V if memory serves me.

Whitepaper Insteon Details
Anyone interested in Insteon details whitepaper. It is on the Insteon.com web site. In Italy. It seems to be gone on the USA Insteon web site or I just missed it. http://www.insteon.it/documentation/insteon_details.pdf

Is anyone here afraid of Insteon disapearing?
I have seen V2.7 posted recently. Long time ago. I had a Smarthome Engineer tell me some revision updates where not for a design change but a different manufacturers equivalent part was being used. So what V2.6 and V2.7 have differently. I sure can't say. I also have a box full of older 2412S and now 2413S PLMs. ?

Shed door alerting
If the Siren is in a scene. You can set how it operates in that scene. In the Scenes list of devices in it. Not the main Administrative Console list. The Siren Modules interfacing information. Was one of the modules Smarthome didn't give UDI little or no information. I understand they had to reverse engineer how it works. I think that it may not have every feature implemented correctly.

Door/Window sensor not sending signal
The Green 10101 indicates that there are changes that need to be written to the device. Battery operated devices have to be woken up by holding the set button until the devices LED flashes. Then you pick write updates to the device.
-
KPL Switch out question
If you follow the link MrBill provided. Just click on the old one in the Administrative Console and pick the replacement as the module used to replace the old on. No it does not have to be powered up or even still installed. The ISY994i writes all the needed new links into the KPL and replaces the old modules ID with the new modules ID. Where ever it needs to be changed.

I/OLink 2450 not sending back correct status
Since the I/OLinc is also power line only. You may have some new or declining electrical device in play.

Insteon Range extenders, 2992-222
Yes. You can use them for better communications. I have two of the older style 2443 Access Points. In the ISY994i system. You don't add them or the Access Points to the Administrative Console. Just plug them in. You can use their built in communications test if you want to see how well they are communicating. If you care too. I can't comment on how a HUB handles them as I never use a HUB.

Insteon Electrician
Putting the filter on the AC Line input to the module. Will kill the Insteon power line commands. If the module is Dual Band. It would have to use Insteon RF for communications. The offending noise maker is what should be on the filter.

SynchroLinc status doesn't update in ISY without query
The 2450 I/OLinc also has a switching supply. My old ones was a 10uF/25V C7. Then they tried a 10uF/50V C7. My latest one is a 220uF/50V C7.

SynchroLinc status doesn't update in ISY without query
You did a Factory Reset on the SynchroLinc? That should have cleared its link database. I tested with a Factory Reset SynchroLinc and added it to my ISY994i 5.0.16C firmware. The show devices links test showed one entry. The link starting with E2 and then the PLM's six digit Insteon ID. I looked inside mine and as pointed out by larryllix it has the poor capacitors in it as a PLM and the values seem to point out it also has a switching power supply. Though the supply chip must be on the solder side as I can't verify it is a switcher.

It does sound like you may still have some old links from when it was used in a HUB. The Red flashing indicates a no response from a module it was supposed to be controlling. Many here found a Factory Reset on a module used in a different controller like a HUB. Was the best way to prevent left over links no longer valid. When added to an ISY994i

Weird behavior - Cree LED bulb
If the problem moved to where ever you installed it. It does sound like it was a bulb possibly making noise and triggering the 2457D back on.

Weird behavior - Cree LED bulb
What Insteon module is controlling the lamp? Some Insteon plug in modules have Local Control Sensing. If the module was off. Toggling the loads local power switch off and back on would turn the module on with out an Insteon on command. The electronics in some LED bulbs could trigger them back on when turned off.

PLM power light not on
I too have had a few wall warts fail. On ISY99i and newer ISY994i. I would try a supply and see if things are better. If the ISY994i works correctly but the power LED on it is off. There are a few reports here where the power LED does not light but everything else works 100%.
