A PLM is only needed if you are doing Insteon or X10. If it is only Z Wave. A PLM is not needed and there is a firmware version for each revision that does not look for a PLM and go into safe mode if a PLM is not found.

I saw the podcast. Steve Lee did indicate new things are in the works but could not comment on exactly what.

I just went to the other end of the house near a Dual Band module. If you can get Insteon signals from the barn. Then that may work. Just remember you only have about four minutes to start adding it from the time you wake up the 2440 RemoteLinc. To get back to the ISY994i to start adding it.

Try adding it by going as far away from the PLM. So it has to go through another Dual Band Module for the task of adding it. I also could not add one with a recent revision PLM until I forced another Dual Band device to do the communicating back to the ISY/PLM combination. It is also possible the 2440 has developed issues. I have had a few go bad over the years.
  5. The sales page on the Smarthome web site. Says Product Is Unavailable in Red letters and the tab where you pick a quantity says Out Of Stock. With no added information. Could be discontinued or being updated to a newer model.
  6. You indicated dimmer version. The 2472D OutletLinc Dimmer. Manual does not indicate you can disable the Load Sensing feature. Like you can with the On/Off models. Sometimes you can add a small incandescent load like a night light bulb to squash the Load Sensing Circuit. Another way is to get a different model LED bulb. That is not as touchy to the Local Load Sensing circuit.
  7. Since it is a power line only Insteon module. Physical distance can be deceiving. If the PLM and 2450 are on different power circuits. The commands may not be getting between them. I would try a dual band module as suggested earlier.
  8. It was mentioned in a thread on the Insteon.com forums. Related to the 2413U revision number. Said both the 2413S and 2413U where updated and revision 2.5 was the latest. Can't verify 2000 link data base was one of them but I suspect it is. As the sales page has been indicating 2000 link data base for months now. https://forum.insteon.com/forum/main-category/insteon-products/computer-interfaces/powerlinc-modem-usb/106551-powerlinc-2413u-version-numbers
  9. Verify you get a V2.5 that was recently reported in the Insteon.com web site. As having improvements. The sales pages have said 2000 Links since at least Memorial day. When I bough mine and it is a 2.4 with the 1000 link database as where some recently reported ones here. Has anyone verified that the ISY994i can actually do 2000 links?
  10. No it is not usual for the TX and RX LEDs to flash in a pattern. If there is no Insteon traffic on the power lines or if the ISY994i is not doing something. The wall wart power supply for the ISY994i is a small switching power supply. So it should not be drawing any large current spikes. Though we have seen some reports of the supply occasionally being flaky. I have my ISY994i and computing gear on an APC Back-UPS-RS1000G with no issues. The UPS AC Input is on a 10 amp FilterLinc to keep its AC power conditioner from absorbing the Insteon signals as noise. With the PLM in the unfiltered outlet on the front of the FilterLinc.
  11. When you are using an ISY994i. Do not use manual linking of modules. Allow the ISY994i to do everything. Also a good idea to do a Factory Reset on all new modules before using them. Test links are sometimes in a module from the factory and it can cause issues.

Ramping On and Off even after a power cycle or factory reset-restore. Sounds like the power supply is failing in the old one. Let us know how the replacement works.
  13. Smartenit makes Insteon compatible modules. With multiple relay outputs or a mixture of multiple outputs and inputs. They would cost more than two 2450 I/OLinc modules.
  14. Thank you for your contribution.
  15. Thank you for the test jig project information. I am sure it will assist others .
  16. If you have any plug in style Insteon Modules. The Factory Reset method is in its full manual. Many you can still hold the Set Button while powering it up. It will start Beeping keep holding the Set Button until the beep stops before releasing it. It will then double beep to indicate reset. Some of the newer ones you have to follow the flow chart of Set Button pushes and LED blink sequences in the full manual. To do the reset and other things. Like the built in communications tests in them.
  17. You may want to look at the wiki itself. There are a few topics relating to the Portal and Alexa. Section 5 Add-On/Optional Modules for the ISY994i https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

For the replace choice to be available. The old and new modules have to be the same or similar type. I suspect they will be similar enough. If the 2477D choice does not show up for replacing the 2476D. Then they are not similar enough. I know the 2635-222 On/Off module was not shown as a replacement. When I tried to replace a 2456S ApplianceLinc.
  19. All the X10 two wire dimmer switches and the Insteon two wire switch. Steal power through the load and specified for incandescent loads. The models with Line Load and Neutral don't have to steal power through the load. So LEDs have a much better chance of working. The keeping one incandescent load in the mix frequently does fix the issue.
  20. The X10 section here may not have any recent traffic. The official X10 forums are very well alive and have compatibility with LED bulb questions recently asked. http://forums.x10.com/index.php I would also suspect the bulbs maybe noisy or your X10 signal at the switch is marginal. Any new or moved electronic devices around the same time you changed to LED bulbs? Jeff has a great set of X10 troubleshooting tutorials you may want to look at. http://jvde.us/x10_troubleshooting.htm

What revision firmware is in on your ISY994i?
  22. I don't think the Category and Subcategory are used by the ISY994i. The HouseLinc software read it and uses the proper communications protocol that model PLM or HUB would use.

    Wiki page says 16GB. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Replacing/Formatting_an_SD_Card
  24. If you swapped the Serial Daughter board from the old 2413S in to the new 2413U. It probably should work fine. Only thing is if a program reads the PLM ID. It could see it as a 2413U PLM as the subcategory ID is different between the 2413U and 2413S. If the old PLM was a 2412S then the memory on the daughter board is a slower speed and probably the >2000 link size.
  25. The photo I saw of the new trim plate. Has just the Off and On LED positions. To match the Off and On LEDs in the switch. The unused LED positions go all the way back to the original 2476S. So the relay and dimmers could use the same color change and light pipe kits. Now I wounder if they will have trim color change kits for the new style or if you want a different color. You get the older style and unused positions.
