Perfect! Glad it was network related. In the future here's the meaning of the status lights on the front of the ISY for troubleshooting. https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Troubleshooting_Help#Front_Panel_LEDs.2FLights

@jlamb I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to upgrade, but it might be time to open a ticket with UDI to get specific help. We've tried most options that have been discussed previously. I just checked my Polisy to see how it compares to what you're saying... Mine: I haven't directly run any update packages in a while. I haven't tried it. One of those "ain't broke, don't fix it" moments. Have you checked the information here: https://www.universal-devices.com/polisy/ Submit a ticket here: https://www.universal-devices.com/my-tickets/

@sjenkins Thanks for bringing this up and thanks all for the feedback. I'm somewhat in the same boat. I had some Insteon sensors at one point, but they long ago quit working. I've been flying blind since, but had made some changes to some potential wet areas with pans that should protect water getting into the house. Although having just had some plumbing work done I would feel better having sensors again. I just ordered some Wireless tag water sensors so hope they'll work well. I've had the temp sensors (2 different types) for a few months and have been impressed by them. As @MrBill states there's been a few cloud issues, and I had the alerts last week when he did. It was a short lived issue and seemed to clear quickly. But it does seem that the company running that might be having some growing pains or just general reliability issues with cloud connections. It's another "big" ticket item that is a risk of not working, but at least they've got a decent track record for many around here. Hopefully @Jimbo can get the leak sensors added to the nodeserver soon, but the app will work good enough for notifications until that happens. Thanks for the work on that Jim!

Unsure if it's the same under Ubuntu, but @larryllix has screen shots (for Windows) of how to increase the memory. The process is also found in many other posts. Hopefully this is available in your system. From the 5.3.4 release thread: Here's how to increase runtime memory it in Linux (hopefully...was just first hit in a Google search). I run Windows 10 and set the font and find that it resets at random times. It's usually after Window Updates and/or java updates. It's not too difficult to reset. It's not every time, but it is somewhat annoying when it happens. But I only change the font size because on a small laptop screen it's sometime difficult to view. But I don't use admin console often so simple fix and relaunch works for when I need lengthy access.

@jlamb Here's the Polisy User Guide. Perhaps that will help. It's been a while since I tried to go in with putty and not local to my Polisy at the moment to try the connection. Note to change the user password once the process is complete. (So it isn't the default pass!)

@GordonGale Error codes can be found here: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Errors_And_Error_Messages As @Techman suggests try to "clean" the SD card contacts. If you have a spare SD card you might try using a new one. Having errors with the SD card can cause intermittent issues in general with the ISY. Here are the directions to replace the SD card: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Replacing/Formatting_an_SD_Card Glad you upgraded to 5.3.4. That's a helpful step in trying to troubleshoot. Always better option to be on "current" firmware because sometimes little (unreported) issues might get cleaned up in the update. Report back after you check the SD card. Maybe also having the event viewer open and set to 3 (Device communications events) then operating some z-wave devices from admin console and at the device might give some insight as to possible communication issues. Sometimes z-wave networks can be tricky. If still having intermittent issues it might be best to open a support ticket with UDI so they can help with the logs and specific troubleshooting steps. @GordonGale What's your ISY Firmware and UI? If you're on the 5.x firmware branch make sure you've upgraded to the latest 5.3.4 to make sure any pesky z-wave bugs are potentially handled.

Again, NO. You cannot use the USB PLM with the ISY994i. Asked and answered (twice now). As @Brian H comments (and I eluded to previously) you can take the "daughter" board out of the USB version and put in the Serial version and it should work. There's been lots of posts about this. Here's one for example: As far as "Insteon going away", nobody knows anything for certain. Sure, devices are hard to find right now, but it's been said that's due to supply chain issues. It's worldwide and many are sick and tired of talking/hearing about it, but it's still true. And sadly, (IMO) the makers of Insteon are now focused on getting the Nokia line out that they're using all internal parts they can get their hands on to make the new line (that should have released earlier this fall). So...to answer the questions you have and that so many others have been asking... Nobody here KNOWS what will happen. We're here to support what people have now. Sure, some like to speculate and some like to say they have "insider" information, but it's still mostly speculation or banter as if there was specific information it probably could not be posted in a public forum until the company makes some sort of announcement. First - No, there's no "NEW" PLM to replace the old. I guess this could be false as I've seen some people talk about a different model number, but without digging into too much of the history of the USB PLM I'll say nothing has been new for a few years. (sure, some that keep up with this more can prove me wrong, and I'm fine with that, but it doesn't change the answer to your initial question. Second - We (the forums) are not pre-sales support to suggest what you should buy. You can review the thousands of posts and suggestions on the forum to determine what works for your abilities and your needs. My current suggestion/recommendation would be to buy a USB PLM, remove the board and use it in a Serial PLM. If you have the skills needed to change capacitors on the existing PLM then you can search the forums for parts to replace failed parts on a failed PLM and remove and replace parts on your own. But that's much more involved, and has also been discussed and documented in other areas of the forums. Third - replacement for when ISY on Polisy is "prime time" - a USB PLM will work with this method. That would be a good thing to have. Since there seems to be available stock in those currently somebody pointed out recently that it's probably because they never sold many to begin with. So there is clearly a "risk" of them being old stock. But, they would be new and should have a decent life expectancy. Good luck!

No, ISY994i only uses Serial PLM. There are numerous threads about this and options. You can take a board out of the USB and put in the Serial and it could/should work (again, plenty of threads describing how to do this can be found through search). If not needing a replacement right away you have the option of waiting for “ISY on Polisy” to be further along in development and can use the USB PLM with the Polisy to run the ISY. You would only need the Polisy and PLM (no longer need the 994i). But that’s currently still being developed so not 100% ready.

I’d suggest opening a ticket with UDI to get help troubleshooting the connection. If you added a firewall and changed router something could be blocking the ISY even though your able to connect with MobiLinc Pro. Insteon SwitchLinc started beeping out of nowhere
Geddy replied to Gunn's topic in New user? Having trouble? Start here
@Gunn Be sure when you factory reset it to follow the directions exactly! Some have had issues with being able to hold in the set button long enough and it doesn't fully reset. From the manual: (#2477Sxx) Factory Reset Factory Reset clears all user settings from SwitchLinc including INSTEON scenes, X10 addresses, etc. 1) Pull out Set button to create an air gap See Air Gap (Removing Power). 2) Wait 10 seconds. 3) Press and hold the Set button. SwitchLinc will begin to emit a long beep. 4) Don’t release Set button until beeping stops. 5) Release Set button. After a few seconds, SwitchLinc will double-beep. The load/light(s) will turn on. LED will return to default brightness. To restore the device in the ISY (make sure it is NOT in a folder? Right click on the device Restore Device You shouldn't have to go through the linking phase again. -
@DirtRoad Yes, you would do it just like you had the devices in the prior program....which is why @lilyoyo1 said he wasn't sure why the program isn't working. In the action you'll have "Your Devices" and at the bottom should be scene devices. (the ones with the scene icon: ) But with a scene you would make the program just as you did above: ------------------------- test-outlet - If From 3:30:00PM To 9:00:00PM (same day) Then Set 'Couch-Outlets' On Else Set 'Couch-Outlets' Off -------------- Your original program should have worked. If you still have it right click on the program and select "run then" - do the outlets both turn on? Then test the else by selecting "run else". Do they turn off? If the if and else work then you have to make sure your time is set correctly. If still not working then open the event viewer, set it to level 3 and run the "then" and "else" again. Make sure you're seeing an entry for: "INST-TX" and a "INST-ACK" And do the same for "run (If)" option...should give more event entries, but should still have an "INST-TX" and "INST-ACK" in the event viewer. When you were controlling the devices themselves would one turn on and one not? Do you have many programs triggering around 3pm? It's possible you had/had too much traffic going on at the time and the signal got lost going to one or both outlet. Maybe make it for 3:00:10 if you have other things being triggered exactly at 3pm.

@bdw72 first make sure your ISY Portal subscription is current. ISY Portal -> Select Tool -> Information -> ISY Portal Access License How are you accessing it remotely? App or Admin Console? Are you using the Portal URL or are you port forwarding on your router? If you're local and log into Admin Console make sure it's registered on the Portal tab: (source: ISY cookbook) I'd say since you say you can access it locally and remotely that it's talking to the internet. First thing would be possibly the portal access has expired. When was that last time you renewed the ISY Portal account? It's 2 years for $20. Typically when people change the network around they've setup the ISY with a Static IP on the device rather than IP Reservation on the router and the new router (if you got a new router) might have a different DHCP routing table and not know/see your ISY. But, again, as you say you're able to access it locally. Can you give more info about what you changed on the network? Did you change routers? Are you plugging into a switch that might have gone bad? I'd say the network itself would be the last thing to troubleshoot since you say you can get access. I keep coming back to ISY Portal subscription being expired. You might not have known it before you made the changes if you use port forwarding and don't often check/use the portal access. Which brings me to another situation...as others have posted I would suggest not using port forwarding and using the ISY Portal URL and credentials to access the ISY remotely. It's a little safer than opening up ports in your local router. Post back if you still have troubles of what else you changed.

Why not have a geofence turn the lights on if you leave the house in the evening? If they're not on and you leave the geofence would turn them on for when you return. I've specifically done that since COVID and working from home more so don't need some entry lights on since I'm already at home, but have them turn on if I leave the geofence during the evening so they're on when I/we return. The fun with that is having 2 phones trigger because some settings don't need to run if others are still home. Sadly though, if you have iOS and have already upgraded to iOS15 the Geofence settings are messed up for most apps. Hopefully they're getting fixed soon, but you can find others talking about this issue elsewhere in the forums and many other issues of this in other forums. So I've had to disable most geofence events for the time being since I haven't been as lucky as others that get them to work after recreating or reinstalling Locative. But to add automation to your efforts, Geofence would eliminate the "need" to flip a switch as you leave the house.

I've personally never tried (or wanted to do) this, but I guess you could break it up into different programs. Could you copy & paste the program you're using now (right click on the program, at the bottom of the menu it should say "copy to clipboard" then paste in a reply). So you're wanting to stop something from triggering, but only if you tell it you don't want it to happen? It sounds like you want a way to make it re-evaluate the program during the "wait" time and not fire the rest of the program. It's probably possible to keep it in one program, but others might have a way of doing it.

@vbphil - Seems like they are informational *warnings* only. Don't seem to be serious. Old posts about this issue: Found these posts using Google Site search: site: https://forum.universal-devices.com/ Might want to see if @Michel Kohanim has any other feedback more recently. If you're really concerned about this or if it's causing something not to work right then I'd suggest opening a ticket with UDI to get specific help and deeper review of the logs.

@Javi there was report of a scrolling issue on the Android side previously, but wondered if there is the same/similar issue on the iOS side. Prior report: https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/34176-ud-mobile-keeps-unscrolling/ (that one seemed to just be general scrolling problem) I'm on iOS 15.1 with UD Mobile 0.5.4. When on the "devices and scenes" display if I scroll down and turn a light on or off the screen bounces back to the top. I thought yesterday it bounced to the bottom, but I can't replicate that currently. If I turn a device on/off at the top of the list (without scrolling) nothing happens. Just when I scroll down to other devices does it bounce back to the top after altering the status of a device.

@marc0612 I'm confused...are you on the mobile app or a computer? You kind of go between both. If what @MrBill has above doesn't work out perhaps @Javi or @Michel Kohanim can chime in to get you looking in the right direction. Should look something like this:

ISY994 not responding properly
Geddy replied to Bill Morrow's topic in INSTEON Communications Issues
@Bill Morrow This looks like it could be a SD card malfunction Wiki error codes show 110012 and 110022 could be SD related. Do you know how long it has been since you made a backup of your ISY? Perhaps the easiest option now would be to open a ticket with UDI support and have them assist with the steps needed to get you up and running again. Although, other troubleshooting you can do to possibly get you on the path to accessing it again would be the usual: Clear java cache (be sure you select all three options in this step even though this video doesn't do that it's sometimes helpful.) Important step -- delete any old start.jnlp or admin.jnlp files you've downloaded in the past. Just so you don't select the wrong file. Download the ISY Launcher Run the current downloaded file and it should add the ISY Launcher to your desktop (assuming Windows Operating System) If at that point the finder doesn't find your ISY you should add the IP manually (you seem to have it above). Use your Admin/Pass for local access. Option 2: If you have ISY Portal you can login there and get your ISY address and add that (you would then use your ISY Portal credentials to log into the admin console) If you're able to get into the admin console either of these ways it would be a good idea to make a backup right away (don't change anything yet). Then make sure that you're able to perform tasks in the admin console without getting the errors you mention above or other potential SD card failure issues. Then the question becomes...do you have a Z-wave controller in your ISY? If so, what version? Make sure you read the update notes about the latest firmware as it might relay to any z-wave controller version you have. If you don't have z-wave in your ISY then you should update to 5.3.4 (latest build) and be on your way. The concern remains though that if your SD card is going back or has gone bad you could run into issues along the upgrade path. So it's important to troubleshoot that some more and that's why I started with suggesting opening at ticket with UDI. Submit a Ticket: https://www.universal-devices.com/my-tickets Email: support@universal-devices.com Post back if you have any updates and let us know how it's going. Good luck! -
@SHM There's been documented issues with iOS 15 breaking geofence for many location related apps. Waiting on Apple to fix the issue. Review discussion here:

Replaced SWL now Alexa is giving me grief
Geddy replied to andrew77's topic in INSTEON Communications Issues
+1 to what @MrBill just says about the alexa.amazon.com site. It's sometimes much easier to determine if there are issues with devices and quick to remove and rediscover anything you've setup in the ISY Portal Alexa connection. Glad you got it sorted out! -
Adding extra ZWave controllers to expand range?
Geddy replied to PatPend's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
Well, great feedback to the above suggestions/answers to your situation. What you apparently missed was that @lilyoyo1 and @Techman both answered your question. The "better/simpler way" would be to just add more devices. Since you (apparently) know how z-wave works (by the clip you added) then you know the more devices you have the better the coverage. I would say the best way to improve your coverage would be to have more devices. NOT by adding another controller. (You later came back to emphasize that you're looking for a "better" way to add the second controller) I would just add to @Techman's reply by suggesting getting a 700 series controller -- as it's what will be supported (by ISY on Polisy) moving forward. 700 series also seems to offer even more range than 500. -
No joy. Installed 15.1.1 when it dropped and no geofence updates (or phone notifications) over the weekend. Only time it worked was today when I purposefully had Mobilinc open as I left the house and left the geofence area. It notified the phone and changed the variable on the ISY. Let's hope it gets better in 15.2 and fixed by 15.3. Going to be a long year if it's not fixed soon!
-
@Chrislef There's no such app for the ISY that would allow you to create programs "on the fly". That's the purpose of the admin console. As far as I know it's not expected to be a part of the UD Mobile to be able to generate programs like you would with Admin Console. I do not use Home Assistant, but as @smacbride suggests, I'm sure others that have significant skills in HA app could help suggest how it might fit your desires. It just requires additional hardware to run HA and then integrate the ISY with the HA method of automating the process. Good luck! Oh, and you should try out the UD Mobile app for best all around ISY app for iOS or Android. They're still developing that so it continues to get better with every release.

cannot determine a valid java home
Geddy replied to DikH's topic in New user? Having trouble? Start here
@DikH Any update here? Assume you got things working since you didn't come back needing more help. Just checking if you're still running into problems.
