text alerts no longer received

A little while ago I noticed that the alerts I have configured to go as text (Bell Canada xxx@txt.bell.ca) no longer got to my phone. The emails alerts work fine.

I double checked that Bell hadn't changed the domain, it hadn't. I can email/text to my phone direclty from my laptop.

I thought that perhaps Bell didn't like the domain the text was coming from, I'm using the USE DEFAULT SMTP method. I used to use my own SMTP, but a year or so ISY could no longer send with it, the config just stopped working, so I switched to default.

In any case, I set up a forwarder email on my own domain. Again, emailing to it directly from my laptop will send a text message to my cell phone, but the ISY alert message, after forwarding, will not reach my cell phone.

So I am wondering if Bell for some reason doesn't like the format of the text being sent.

Any thoughts on this?

Do a search for email to SMS conversion services. Most of them are open for anybody's use.

Hello Orest,

Is your controller a 99 or 994 Series Controller?

994, and running the latest firmware.

994, and running the latest firmware.

I would humbly suggest you use a personal SMTP address instead of the *Default* one being offered by UDI. As its been known to be over loaded, down, etc.

Most folks create a dedicated GMAIL account just for the ISY Series Controller. Doing so ensures this SMTP address has only one goal and that is to send alert messages.

I use the sms conversion link my mobile phone provider provides.

Some time back things changed and I now have to make domain names match and accounts match in the field parameters.

I always did before, using my own domain SMTP, and then ISY stopped sending with no parameters changes. I played around a bit with it, and couldn't get it reconfigured. Will give it another shot.

There are several threads on this back about a year ago. People blamed it on google but I never used google anything.

My ISP doesn't even accept a password on a tight input channel from me but it stopped working without a domain that matches the other field with a domain in it. I changed everything to match and it started working again.

AFAIC this was all ISY upgrades in security and nothing to do with ISPs or google.

I played around with the settings, and seemed to get it working again with my own domain SMTP. Interestingly, it works with text message alerts as well.

Will monitor it.

So about a month ago I was having the exact same issue with Bell Canada. Every time I called Bell half the people I talked to didn't even have a clue what I was talking about. I was even told that Bell didn't offer email to text service even though I had been using it for 5 years. So I requested a service ticket be created for the issue and about a week later I received a call from Bell Canada saying the issue was resolved and everything has worked fine since. All I was told was some settings had been changed on their end.

My test messages stopped working.  When I click on test the address the test message is received but the program alerts using the same address do not.  THoughts?  Everything had been working fine for years.  I am using default at the server
