Polisy and nodeservers?

Hello

I have an ISY 994 with IR and Zwave. My house is mostly Insteon, one motion Zwave switch and a Zwave lock.I use an Alexa to integrate some Wifi devices into  ISY and I have a Harmony remote I use the IR functions to give me control of some the electrical items. I also have a Ramba vacuum Blink cameras and an Eufy doorbell. I am having trouble understanding what the Polisy with the nodeservers would do for me. Is there a cost for the different nodeservers? I have read on here to try and understand what all of this does but I have been unable to find something that makes it click for me. I only use a couple of programs so I know I don't have my house set to it's full potential but use it as a hobby and for my own enjoyment.

Thank you

Tom

I am not a geek and at first the concept of Raspberry Pi, Polyglot and nodeservers was way beyond my level of technical competence. But then a few on this forum (Bumbershoot, Simplextech, Mwareman, FirstOne, Jimbo, Lilyoyo1, larrylix, and several others that I don't remember right now) guided me along and I was able to install Polyglot on a Raspberry Pi.

What the nodeservers do is allow to integrate other technologies into your ISY. As an example, I use the nodeservers AVRemote and Harmony Hub in my ISY wake-up programs to first stream music and then turn on the TV at the selected channel. I also use the nodeserver Google Holidays to disable my wake-up programs when there is a whole day event  in one of my Google Calendars. AVRemote also allows me to stream selected radio stations, at  specific times, to my various Chromecast devices. There are numerous nodeservers that integrate numerous technologies and devices. The most cool may be the one integrating your Tesla in your ISY, but unfortunately I don't have a Tesla.?

If you are as non-geek as me, it may be overwhelming in the beginning but, as mentioned, many in this forum will be happy to guide you.

Polisy is a new box from UDI that replaces the need for a Raspberry Pi and that is built for the future. Supposedly, some time in the future, it will replace the need for a separate ISY box. The Polisy makes the integration of nodeservers  much easier and the same for nodeserver updates.

As they say, you will not understand the usefulness of the Polisy and nodeservers until you have them, and then wonder why you waited so long.

Thank you asbril for.the information!  I know I did not realize the potential of ISY until I had it to mess around with. I guess I have to wait until the Polisy Pro is available anyway because I bought the basic ISY and I regret not buying the top of the line unit and ended up upgrading it after the fact. Does anyone know when the Pro will be available for purchase?

The Polisy Pro is out and I received mine a few days ago. There could be a waiting list for new orders, but get your order in.

It's unfortunate we have to wait until it's in stock again to order. I will keep checking on it's availability.

@tazman,

I am so very sorry for the delay. On top of everything going on, we were forced to move our offices which has basically caused major unwanted activities. The only difference between the PRO and non PRO is the WiFi/Bluetooth chip inside which we'll make available shortly as an option. Based on the initial feedback, more than 95% of the PRO orders do not even use WiFi and, if they do, they disable it.

This said, we are seriously considering not offering the PRO version and just offer the WiFi chip as an option. Or, you can get a WiFi USB stick for a few bucks.

Anyway, apologies for the delay.

With kind regards,
Michel

Hello @Michel Kohanim , thank you for the response. I am fine waiting for the Pro to come back in stock and would even be fine placing the order now and have it ship when it is in. I'm not even sure what kind of use I will get out of it but I regret not getting the top of the line ISY even though I did not need it in the beginning and luckily UD made it possible to upgrade the unit I did get. Any timeline when the Pro might be back in stock?

I have been reading all I can on here. I guess I have no need for the Wifi since it seems it's use is just for connecting to the router but I'm still wondering if i will need the bluetooth in the future. I'm sure I would be able to add the bluetooth in the future if I need it. I am also a little concerned about what I have been reading about problems where I would have to remote in using putty which I had to Google to find out what it was. I guess my biggest concern is getting in over my head with this but with the help from the forums I hope I can get through it.

I don't have a need for wifi either but still ordered for the future. Moreso when the ISY is ported over. There have been times I've done stuff and needed to move my isy closer to something (such as a lock that was already installed). It comes down to moving the isy or taking something apart. By having wifi, it makes it much easier to move around when needed.

While I don't need WiFi 99% of the time, I got it for the 1% that I've wished I had since.

So true. I have the Google Wifi router which allows me to connect my ISY to one of the router pods, but once ISY moves to Polisy, it will even be easier to include locks and switches that are at a distance.

Thanks that is good information right there and reminds me of ISY with a barely long enough internet cable for me to add my lock after my last update :)

Isn't this so true and always the case.  In the past I used a ethernet -> wifi bridge but having built in wifi will make this much easier/cleaner.

At some point in the future, the ISY code will be migrated to the Polisy hardware platform and you won't need your 994i anymore.
