USB PLM

I have the Polisy configured, and the 2413U PLM connected; but in the administrative console, Tools, Diagnostics, PLM Info/Status section, it reads  0.0.0 v0 Not connected

and the Policy will not discover any Insteon devices.   Have I missed something?    (BTW - Insteon IS enabled in the configuration)

Posted

I have the same issue where the PLM shows not connected. All updates and upgrades are up to date. The PLM that I have is a smartlabs dual band 2413u version 1.0. It can be seen by an app that runs on the PC. 'Simplehomenet Utility Suite'

Thanks

@mmb, have you done:

- Admin Console | Configuration | System
- Check INSTEON Support checkbox
- Click on the Save button and then Reboot button (restarts the ISY service)

With kind regards,
Michel

Tried that and other as well, no luck.  I believe the OS sees it but the ISY isn't picking it up.

Hi guys,

If anyone has access to ssh, can you please plug the PLM in, unplug it, plug it back in and then send me the output of:

dmesg

With kind regards,
Michel

Are you referring to dmesg.today in /var/log?

I checked messages and unplug/plug events are recorded there.

@bgrubb1, thank you very much. It does not even show up.

@mmb, it's best if unplug and plug it back in and use

dmesg > dmesg.out

And then use scp to copy it to your computer and paste here.

Thank you all.

With kind regards,
Michel

It appears that a new USB driver for the PLM has been added.

Yes and it seems to be rock solid....

So is it recommended to move to USB PLM for ISY on Polisy? My current PLMs are likely near end of life so was going to buy new ones with current sale so could just get USB ones in preparation for the move?

That is my crystal ball guess. I doubt we will ever see a production run of Serial PLMs again. Too many clues have been dropped, including UDI's support of the USB unit. Too much hush-hush there.

Right, what I really meant is should I move my current PLM over and use with Polisy or get a new USB one? I guess either way I need them eventually so may as well get them.

Yeah, I have w working one I depend on, and two that likely need cap replacements, but I have the same thoughts.

It doesn't sound like the pol/ISY is dependable enough yet to commit to the jump. A further factor, for me, has been a raft of LAN/WAN/Router problems for the last year or two that I may have (hopefully) spent my way out of (yeah about $1K, new router, new bad mesh routers with more problems that still didn't point to my original router problems **SIGH** ) .

I didn't want to mix more complications into that batch. :( and not be able to zoom in on bugs etc..

I guess we need to get more information about the PLM modem. Is there options? Different models? New USB PLM on the horizon?  IMHO there is a new USB model being worked on, not a serial PLM.

The USB PLM seems like the way to go, as we likely need to support two ISYs simultaneously. hmmm... maybe the soldering iron needs to come out in order to buy some time as SmartLabs will never announce/leak anything.

This brings me to anybody managed to make some cross talk connections between pol/ISY and ISY994 so items can be moved over slowly?

For those considering a new USB PLM in Canada.

aartech.ca has the USB PLM for about $104 CAD.

With Smarthome's current YESTHIRTY, 30% off coupon and cheapest very slow shipping at $38 USD, the aartech.ca version is about the same price after Canadian HST taxes.

This price comparison is also considering no taxes to be paid coming from US Smarthome (if you are lucky) and warranty will be very hard to claim with about $40 (your cost)  for return shipping. Exchange was calculated in comparison also.

The Canadian deal is much more economical and sensible. aartech.ca has always been top-notch for complaint and warranty handling. Only basic questions were asked on items in the past.

Anyone know a minimum revision level for the USB PLM to work with ISY on Polisy?  I have a 2414U V2.1 lying around I thought I'd try.

I'm not getting a connection despite the PLM appearing to be powered up. All my other PLMs are serial so I cannot do a hardware test by swapping it out.  However I'm not seeing any UART entries in the domes log- just vendor/product codes corresponding to polisy devices.

Most likely I need to get a new 2413U USB PLM? I have a few spare 2413S ones but that's not going to help me without a DP9-RJ45 cable. (Also I think one of them has bad caps and the the other is needed for an ISY going to another property)

IIRC Michel posted a software switch that had to be enabled to use a PLM with pol/ISY, recently (about a week ago) . It seems pol/ISY installs with the PLM disabled so people can get it going without a PLM.

The 2414U is actually a PLC vs PLM.  Not the same.  You could make a cable.

Unless the Pollsy can accept a 2414U PLC it will not work. It is not the same as a 2412U/S or 2413U/S PLM.

Completely different commands and message speed.  2414U/S PLC 4800,8,N,1. 2412U/S and 2413U/S  19200,8.N,1

It has a Real Time Clock with battery backup.  Large memory to store programs we assembled with the Smarthome  SALadIDE  assembler. That could have the assembled program downloaded into it. Then run alone with no computer equipment connected.

If you still had the boxes for the 2413S PLMs you have. It was in the box. Probably in one of the side pieces. Not marked so some didn't even know it was there.
