keepersg Posted January 5 Posted January 5 After much delay, I have finally migrated my system to my eisy. It went reasonably well, the only hiccup being that I had to restore the settings on many of my devices after the migration to access them I'm not sure why that was...my Insteon devices cover the entire product generation line (still a couple of originals in service) to i3. No rhyme or reason I could discern on which required a restore. It's now up and running perfectly except waiting for the Ambient Weather plug in to populate. I have to say, pulling the ISY994 out of my automation cabinet was surprisingly difficult emotionally...long a faithful service by that little machine. I'll keep it as a backup in case things go south. Many thanks to UDI (Michael especially) for all the initial help with getting the eisy going and for so many years of such excellent support. 3 Quote

Glad you got things migrated well. Interesting that devices needed to be restored. When you say "settings on many of my devices" what do you mean? Like LED settings or just making the connection to the IoX via PLM? I've also kept the ISY994 just as a token nod to history. Quote

How do you think I feel about my 25 year old Ocelot controller, that's never missed a beat? It's like an old friend. It's still running a few things, like my solar pool heating. One of my projects is to make a PG3 plugin for it, so I can keep using the relay modules and other features. Right now I do that with X10 commands, not the best way. I've already tested serial communications with it from the eisy in Python. So it's just a question of getting it done. 1 Quote
Brian H Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I had similar feeling on my ISY26 and then my ISY99i. I definitely agree UDI has exceptional support. I still have some X10 in my setup. My Insteon modules are old enough to also have an optional X10 primary address in them. So my HR12A palm pad can still control them. 2 Quote
paulbates Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I left mine in the house I sold in 2023. That was after a number of years of nothing new added or changed, it just worked. Quote
keepersg Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 @Geddy....Just a restore from the data in IoX to the device. I think it was likely just the connection to the PLM. 1 Quote
slimypizza Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I thought I was the only one who felt that way about my ultra-dependable ISY994i when I brought my EISY on board last year. I still have it along with its PLM as a back up should I ever need it. I haven't even moved it out of the equipment stack. Quote
Guy Lavoie Posted January 6 Posted January 6 It's not really about the feeling of abandonment, but about trading away known reliability for something new that has yet to make us feel as confident. Quote
heardc Posted Sunday at 02:00 PM Posted Sunday at 02:00 PM Hey I love my 10 year old isy994 too but am getting tired of having to reboot it every 3 weeks, fighting with Java and windows admin access and UD Mobile synchronization unpredictability. Does any of this stuff get better with eISY? If not, I may take the massive leap to Home Assistant. Quote
keepersg Posted Sunday at 08:13 PM Author Posted Sunday at 08:13 PM I haven't ever had to reboot the isy994. eisy has been running for months without needing a reboot. Java and windows access is still the same old pain.... Quote
