BitSmith Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Yes, I was putting it through as an SMS. And I'm darn sure I tested MMS as well, but maybe I didn't hit [save] or something. Anyway, I tested again and MMS is the answer. Works like a champ! Thank you!
ISYhbsh01 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 With Sprint my email address comes up as the sender. Not a phone number at all. You sure it's coming thru as a SMS? If you are seeing an email address as the from, it's probably a MMS. SMS only supports E.194 addresses (phone numbers) MMS supports rfc822 addresses as well as E194 as the from address With AT&T, you could try sending to 1231231234@mms.att.net. It used to work to send as MMS with better formatting. I don't know off the top of my head is that still works though. Update: just tested number@mms.att.net. Still works. BitSmith, this may be more what you need for a consistent 'from' address. And better message content format. Michael. Yes I am sure it's SMS. I can see the difference on my phone. Also with Sprint when sending a SMS you use number@messaging.sprintpcs.com. When sending as an MMS you send it to number@pm.sprint.com. I am using the SMS address with the ISY to send me notifications. Still the "from" in the SMS is my email address as setup in the ISY settings.
GACSALY Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 At the moment, we are working on some pretty exciting enhancements which might make this requirement moot. I have still never found a good solution to this that does what I want. I have tried a bunch of solutions including prowl, pushover, boxcar, mobiLinc, pushbullet, multiple gmail accounts, and others. I want to use IOS custom sounds (so my phone says "Garage Opened") and be able to use custom vibrations). I still think recipient level FROM field would do the job, and be easy to implement, but in June 2013 it seems there were was something else that would meet my requirements in the works. Is there NOW a good way to have custom IOS sounds for numerous isy events?
apostolakisl Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Not to rain on the IOS people, but anyone reading this thread with an Android can use Tasker to get the job done. Tasker can do this using texts (so I use ISY email to send texts). Tasker can be programmed to recognize both the from line of the text and/or contents of the text. So you set up as many custom notifications as you want in ISY with content specific to the ISY event you want to tell your phone about. Then you program tasker to recognize that content and trigger various tasks from there. Tasks could include reading the text out loud, starting an application, making a noise of some sort, or damn near anything a phone can do manually, tasker can do it automatically.

Michel Kohanim Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Hello GACSALY, Unfortunately adding from field is not that easy because most ISPs would not allow a from that is not tied to the account's email address. This basically means that we would have to create/manage different accounts which, although doable, but not trivial. With kind regards, Michel

This basically means that we would have to create/manage different accounts which, although doable, but not trivial. With kind regards, Michel As pointed out by myself, and others, IF EVEN ONLY ONE FREE SMTP provider allows a custom FROM, then this simple solution would work for everyone. Myself and others have verified they have access to such SMTP providers. You already have a FROM on the email account setup that allows a FROM not tied to the accounts email address. I don't need, or want, to have ISY manage multiple accounts, just allow a custom FROM field on the customized message form. This, it seems to me, is rather easy to implement. I stopped nagging on this when, over a year ago, when you said: > At the moment, we are working on some pretty exciting enhancements which might make this requirement moot. Is there now ANY way to get the ISY to send texts or pushes to my iPhone with the ability to play different custom recorded sounds for different events? For now, when my spa temp is out of range my iPhone says "Door Open" and my wife makes an degrading tsk tsk sound.
Xathros Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Maybe you should change the "Door Open" to "Somethings Amiss" -Xathros

Michel Kohanim Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Hello GACSALY, From is the friendly name you see in the email clients. It's really not a distinguishing factor since the email account remains the same. Can you change your From to something else and see if it helps? Also, please note that we do things based on priorities. it would be very difficult to justify implementing this feature if indeed it gets more complicated than just adding From (i.e. friendly name). With kind regards, Michel
GACSALY Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Can you change your From to something else and see if it helps? If I change the From in the email account settings and use my Comcast ISP, the From comes through to my iPhone. I use "ISY99:gacsaly@gmail.com" and my iphone has a contact for that combination and I can set custom tones and vibrations for that contact. If I change the FROM in the ISY email account to "GARAGEOPEN:gacsaly@gmail.com" my iphone detects the different contact and plays a different tone. Of course, this does not "Help" for my purpose, as I have to manually change the From field to test the different tones. Yet this convinces me the simple FROM feature would work. I am confident that if I could have just a simple FROM box on the email customizations form, it would do what I want. THANKS!
Michel Kohanim Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Hi GASSY, Can't promise anything but let me see if there's something quick we can do. With kind regards, Michel
MWareman Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Michel, Are string variable types coming to 5.x? (please say yes.... please say yes...) If so, could this not just be a substitution just like email body content? Michael.
GACSALY Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 I don't see how string variables would help Hi GASSY,Can't promise anything but let me see if there's something quick we can do.With kind regards,Michel THANKS!

If so, could this not just be a substitution just like email body content? Michael. String variables will be nice, but I don't see how they would help with my problem, unless I could get them into the email header to replace the FROM field. Unfortunately, on the iPhone, I have found no way to customize the push notification sound based upon message content, only based on the contact associated with the message (which uses the FROM or SENDER fields).
builderb Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Fwiw, alerts I get from my ISY through my gmail account show as coming from "HAL". Which is not the name on my gmail account.
GACSALY Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Fwiw, alerts I get from my ISY through my gmail account show as coming from "HAL". Which is not the name on my gmail account. Is your message being forwarded by gmail to your phone as a text message? If so, do you have a contact named HAL on your phone? Do you have any text in the FROM box of the ISY email account settings? I think gmail uses the FROM of the ISY if it is set. If FROM is not set, gmail uses the email address of the sending account (the ISY email account address). It does NOT forward the message as from the email address the ISY sent the message to. Nor does it forward the message as from the email address set as the "sender" address in the email account the ISY sent the email to. Finally the phone uses parts of the sender address to find a contact. Then it uses the tones set on the contact found.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Hi GACSALY, Done. It will be in our next beta ... Chris went overboard to get this done. The compromise is that you need a different customization content for each From. Hi MWareman, I hope so but I am not sure whether not it would be in the first or last release! With kind regards, Michel

The compromise is that you need a different customization content for each From. Done?!? Fantastic!!! Thanks Chris! I expected to have (and need anyway) a different customization for each FROM (with words that will now match my sound). I look forward to your next beta. Thanks to all again! Happy Holidays!

The compromise is that you need a different customization content for each From. Hi MWareman, I hope so but I am not sure whether not it would be in the first or last release! With kind regards, Michel Excellent news Michel- The customized From will be quite useful from me too. Knowing that string vars are coming along with the other variable enhancements that have been mentioned is awesome. I will be able to vastly reduce the number of programs I have and vastly simplify maintenance of my ISY once these become available. This ISY is one amazing little box and between UDI and this community, it only keeps getting better. I'm hopeful that both of these new features can be used in conjunction. ie: use a sting variable to specify the From in a customized notification. Thanks for all of you excellent and tireless work! -Xathros
MWareman Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Thanks Michel! String variables and substitutions in network resources (as well as headers) will be FANTASTIC! (Please don't forget substitution in things like an Authorization header in the network module!). I can't wait. Michael.

All my OTHER notifications (prowl, sms) come from HAL by virtue of editing the account configuration on the ISY. The only one that still comes from my actual name is gmail. And since I've switched most of my notifications away from email, I don't see many email notifications anymore. Sorry! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Teken Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Hello All, I've been tracking this effort for quite sometime and wanted to use this new feature for myself and clients. I am sad to report I have no clue how this is supposed to work because nothing I enter into the custom field results in anything different?? I would greatly appreciate if anyone who has a iPhone along with a gmail account can provide myself and the members a step by step guide in how to set this up to operate so custom ring tones can be applied based on the virtual sender etc.
