- Insteon ballast dimmer 2475DA2 and flicker/flash when turning off from 40% brightness via scene
I’ll look over your link and see if there’s anything obvious. As an aside, I Beta tested this super thin tropher style fixture. I had very low expectations of the unit being able to dim smoothly, near zero shut off, and the potential of a Insteon noise maker / signal sucker! [emoji2357] Having tested this fixture for more than seven months it has met every qualification of colour output, smooth dimming, near zero turn off. Instant on without delay and consumes very low energy especially when dimming for the task at hand. They offer absolutely no hum, buzz, flicker, pulsing at any defined level. These same light fixtures are on sale at Costco for $28 - 36.00 each. I scooped up eight of them for a mini project still in the works.- Insteon ballast dimmer 2475DA2 and flicker/flash when turning off from 40% brightness via scene
My first question is have you ever turned on the fixture without Insteon hardware involved. Meaning, how do we know it’s simply not the light fixture that has this problem?!? Having dealt with hundreds of brands and models of lights. I’ve found in many cases some fixtures have no issue turning on / off. The same fixture as seen by many here either have instant on or delay on. The same fixture also has a very defined turn off which only recently offer almost 100% to 3-4% off for that smooth fade as seen in incandescent bulbs. In between that many fixtures will (Pop) when set to different power levels. All of this doesn’t even address integrating with Insteon which use trailing edge vs leading edge power control. Keep in mind there are tens of millions of Insteon users who have been successful in using dimmable LED fixtures. While a small minority have not seen the same success. 9 X out of 10 this is solved by changing the fixture / bulb to be compliant with that Insteon hardware. This is a vast departure from other makers where you use anything that is dimmable within reason! Meaning you can’t expect top notch performance and lighting from a dollar store blue light special. [emoji2357] If you have the ability to adjust the fixture without Insteon. See and affirm what the behaviour is at 40%. As you don’t want to find out at the end of the day it’s the fixture that is the root cause. [emoji106]- Future in Insteon
My complete and utter disgust is seeing great technology just being pissed away which seems to be each year. I’ll never understand how it is they can spend so much time developing something, releasing it into the wild, knowing the product is half baked?!? At some point you iterate on the original concept. To what goal?!? [emoji848] To make more money and take market share! Yet Smartlabs will literally ship hardware that has no documentation or API explaining how something is supposed to work. Even worse is when the smatter of documents that are available don’t coincide with reality! [emoji35] How can you sell your wares if it doesn’t operate as expected? How do you expect great companies like UDI to support your product if they aren’t provided support never mind accurate and timely technical information??? Having to reverse engineer something just so the basics operate as expected is complete bull sh^t. 2021 has arrived and once again I’ll restate what I said more than ten years ago. Which is the freaking boat has sunk and if they have any last measure of common sense the head clown will sell Smartlabs to a company that will harness the technology. Everyone likes to bitch and rarely if ever offers guidance or best path. So I’ll restate what I did 10-15 years ago - yet again! - License: Reach our to all industries and license out the tech so others can make it or work in concert with them to develop the next great thing. - Promote: Give away the chips so startups and existing companies can R&D. Along with making products that integrate with their wares without investing too heavily in Insteon. - Iterate: Build upon your success and stop racing to the bottom for price using the cheapest components known to man. Learn from your endless mistakes like the PLM, KPL, Hub failures . . . - Open Source: Truly embrace the general public in this space. One only needs to see what UDI has done via their Polyglot framework. From a single NS to a hundred plus! If you reflect upon companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft etc look what software and integration exists for their software and products! All Market: As stated up above take existing hardware and make it compliant to those markets power & frequency. Why would you ever not sell existing hardware to other countries because you’re too stupid to invest in yourself??? It’s not like there isn’t a demand. It’s not like you didn’t have time. It’s only been ten freaking years and you still offer a smattering of Hardware to other countries?!? You can’t certify and upgrade the entire line to support all power & frequencies??? Come on you inept [censored] . . . [emoji2357] Maybe this thread will hit a cord and something will happen. [emoji2357][emoji1787][emoji106]- Future in Insteon
Taking a moment to reply to this topic as it seems to arise every year. Smartlabs as indicated above will continue at their own pace, right or wrong. [emoji1785] Given UDI has opened their platform to integrate with Z-Wave this offers one direct route. Deploying a Node Server (NS) via RPI / Polisy opens the doors to almost any IoT. [emoji106] Having these two solutions offers the end user an exit strategy / migration path if needed. Now, if the question is - was can this company do better in product roll outs? Yes . . . Can they do better in public announcements? Yes . . . Can they offer the Beta group more insight, feedback, and God forbid. Use this valuable resource to identify bugs and product improvements vs a waste land of nothing? Yes . . . This company from the very beginning had focus and purpose when the talented people were allowed to speak and make a difference. As history has proven Joe squandered and pissed it away until the very best left or were fired. Fast forward 20 years later we have the exact same piss poor leadership! [emoji107] It’s truly dumb luck this company and its technology is still present in 2021. [emoji1785] If Smartlabs has truly killed off the international PLM Pro this simply affirms yet again the leadership & fools are still present and accounted for within the company. Every day there is another start up able to bring to market their wares. This has no baring on whether they have staying power but directly contradicts the notion it’s not possible to obtain certification and all the required market qualifications. I know personally, having been involved in no less than 48 startup projects that came to market and continue to sell their wares. Smartlabs has been in business for more than 20 years and knows the process. They have more than two decades of relationships with vendors for their wares. Anyone who believes the PLM Pro or any other hardware is slow to market due to supply constraints needs to shake their head. The PLM Pro has taken another back seat to yet another POS Hub. From my perspective it’s a hate / love relationship with UDI. Smartlabs under Joe Blow in the way distant past committed to sell the Insteon chips so UDI could build an international multi voltage / freq PLM. But no surprise Joe Blow reneged and didn’t sell the chips to UDI!! Fast forward a year later Smartlabs offers not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 Hubs?!? If that isn’t a dick punch I don’t know! Years later, UDI informs the general public the reason the ISY isn’t currently available via Smarthome is the fact they are slow *** in paying for said hardware! All the while in ten freaking years the new imbeciles in power at Smartlabs have failed to release an existing piece of hardware to our brothers across the pond?!? Why? Because this company is run by a moron. There are almost 8 billion people on this blue planet. North America only makes up X percent of that population. Why does a company exist? To make money, market share, and recycle these two. Yet this company with all their talent and two decades of business relationships. Doesn’t see millions of dollars could be made just by expanding their wares to other countries??? [emoji2357] It’s a fact if the PLM Pro ever came to market the heavens would open up and gold coins would rain upon Smartlabs. But that won’t ever happen because you guessed it - a moron is at the helm. As I have stated in the past all of these protocols are a joke. It doesn’t matter if it was X-10 to Insteon, Z-Wave, ZigBee, WiFi, BLE, name what ever. The real future is in the smart panel. As of this writing it’s very much a niche product and market segment. Will it ever gain mass adoption - probably not. So, the general public will have to settle for 1970 technology for another 10-15 years of Z-Wave, ZigBee, Insteon. Having installed four smart panels and working on them in hundreds of enterprise sites. This is the path I’ll follow and prepping for now. My view is like lilyoyo which is just enjoy the tech now. Buy what you need and keep a decent amount of spares on hand in case Smartlabs folds. None of us can see into the future but surely can foreshadow things to come! I haven’t seen you in a dogs age! Wishing you and yours the very best my friend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- New Insteon Hardware - SBP-Wall - Smart Wall Switch
As of this writing the bulk of the internal / external photos have been released for the various products. An interim user manual is also published but with nothing called out (TBA). Sadly, the dial switch isn’t listed anywhere for review. The biggest news in all of this is Smartlabs appears to be involved with another company. There doesn’t appear to be much information as it pertains to their business relationship so hard to say how they fit into the mix. After 15 years even this new owner has failed make any in roads with any major third party hardware vendor. The fact Insteon continues to sell and have some market share is truly amazing and unbelievable. Their next generation Hub is the latest FCC filing which affirms (yet again) they believe this is money well spent. Instead of investing money in solid components for higher reliability in all of their hardware?!? If the picture of the latest hardware are to be accepted someone must be a fan of Wemo because that’s what it looks like an ugly turd. 2021 is fast approaching and Smartlabs continues to offer hardware with no encryption, no energy monitoring, no field upgradable firmware! I received 27 Alpha, Beta, and Market Ready pieces of hardware in the last 14 months. Every one of them has some form of industry standardized encryption whether it be via software / hardware chip. All of them can monitor the voltage, frequency, power, and current! Lastly, all of them can be upgraded with the latest firmware?!? How the hell companies from small to large in different parts of the world do this yet Smartlabs - Can’t???? The answer is inept and out of touch CEO’s and people below them - period. The reality is Insteon would not have any market share if it wasn’t for the 2413S PLM which has allowed great companies like UDI to band aid their hardware. Unlike many here I won’t follow any lighting vendor as the last ten years as proven it’s still a clown show. For me the long term solution and future is in smart panels. No more can’t use this load, no more replacing $50 - 100.00 switches every random year. No more WiFi, BLE, Power Line, RF, and no more proprietary bull sh^t protocol like Insteon, Z-Wave, Zigbee, X-10, blah blah. It just works - that’s the road I’m traveling on in the near term! Purchasing a Z-Wave enabled controller with the Polyisy Pro. Will not only future proof you but allows you to integrate a hybrid environment selecting hardware you like. The above hardware allows both local first while allowing you to integrate with cloud only services & hardware. It’s a win - win . . . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- How to Open the ISY994i case - without breaking things
Once the four bottom screws have been removed. If your unit has an external antenna remove it along with the retaining nut & washer. Then remove the bottom plastic cover. From the rear where the ports are gently pull the (rear) case while lifting up the entire board. Doing so will allow the entire PCB to come out. If you try to remove it from the LED (front of case) you’ll probably break something doing so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- Access Points in ISY?

Assuming everything was in place such as drivers in Polyglot and supporting Node Servers. My wish list is BLE would allow native phone, tablet, PC, via iBeacon / Eddy Stone detection. This sort of detection is important if one wants hyper local detection down to the foot vs wide area geo location. BLE would also enable the customer to integrate BLE only devices on the market now. WiFi would support those type of devices from switches to sensors too. I don’t foresee this being worked on until the big migration from ISY -> Polisy. When that will happen is anyone’s guess but that process is already being tested now with the team. When that translates to public trials - who knows! Can you offer us a image capture of the settings you choose in that node? Along with what the programs look like along with the State Variable table.- Displaying individual variables "as devices" (sort of like virtual devices)
@markv58 Will a Delete Node DB cause the system to revert back to -60 / 129 in the back ground even if it displays 0? If so, that will definitely solve this problem. Can you test that before I hit the big red button?!?- Displaying individual variables "as devices" (sort of like virtual devices)
@markv58 v1.2.1 was loaded late in the day and as of this writing everything appears to be operating just fine. All of the values in both the AC and state table are reflective of what the sending hardware say they are. I have to affirm once again having you incorporate key user features like *Since Last Update* is not a nice to have but a must have when trouble shooting is needed. A perfect example is where I monitor the different levels of the soil on my property to know when the frost line has been breached. Knowing this piece of information is critical to other auxiliary services and systems in my home to insure the health and safety. The AC displays a last update of 642.6 minutes, while the state table indicates the last update was on Sunday July 26, 2020 at 10:27:22 PM CST. Error logs mirror all of the above as it stood out as I was reviewing the system for problems. Backing up and viewing at a high level the Brultech Dash Box (DB) affirms the ground temperature has been rock steady and holding at 18.5'C. When there are areas, floors, zones, that don't see dramatic swings in temperature this can come off as there being a problem in a system. The DB affirms there isn't anything wrong because the core temperature of the ground is extremely stable and only changes based on long duration of extended temps. What is there to say other than *IMPRESSIVE* . . . ? Feature Request: Low / High Value Insert The only thing I could ask at this time is for some feedback and input as to how to best to address monitoring low temperatures. I have appended an image capture of the freezer and highlighted the *Highest* value box. Is there any way to update both the low / high fields so the average value isn't impacted and accurate?? I really prefer not changing the state variable to accomplish this as its less than elegant and screws around with every other values. Given its monitoring the freezer and the system defaults to zero the system will never show a correct (negative) high value which drives my OCD crazy. ?- Displaying individual variables "as devices" (sort of like virtual devices)
@markv58 I believe this is one of the major items and features that will make this virtual node server more reliable and less impact full on Polisy. I just noticed the Polisy indicated all of the installed node servers in my system as *Install* vs Uninstall. Upon further review the Virtual Node Server must have completely locked up the Polisy. As none of the values in the AC has updated vs reality. I've included a few image captures from my various systems as to the *Live* current values vs what the AC shows as the current value for the garage attic. The 53.6'C displayed value in the AC was for yesterday and you can see the seconds counter stopped at 0.9 minutes and hasn't changed since. At a high level this is why I have asked you and any other vendor I work with to consider fail safes and tools that allow the end user to compensate for extremely high loads. Planning and coding for the worst case scenario just makes sense and ultimately reflects on the robustness, quality, and experience by all. Again, I must thank you for taking all of my suggestions and others into consideration in making something great, to truly awesome! One of the mantra's I have tried to live and instill in others is : Don't strive for perfection - strive for progress! Thank You - Sir! ???- Displaying individual variables "as devices" (sort of like virtual devices)
@markv58 A quick follow up and everything appears to be working except for the negative value node as seen here. The state has changed as seen here at 8:40:04 AM CST but the last time it was updated in the VNS was 723.6 minutes. Let me know your thoughts and possible next steps to resolve this issue. Much Thanks! Virtual_2020-7-25_085849.txt- Displaying individual variables "as devices" (sort of like virtual devices)

@markv58 Houston we have lift off and the first epic flight of VNS-1 (Virtual Node Server 1) is in the air! ?? Now, show me how to resolve the negative values not showing up? I have to gather because the code doesn't take into account negative values?? ?- Outdoor Insteon Plug

Well, I this takes it out of the possible *All On* realm of possibility. ? As noted by @lilyoyo1 once you delete the hardware and hard reset the device. I would actually go one further step.
