When you ask the system to open a group of blinds to open / close how is the performance (in sync) ?

To be clear when you say can’t communicate this is from accessing via the AC? When the controller is in this state can you ping it on the network? Does it remain visible on the network router?

Several people have been asking me about this product and wanted to know if anyone here has used the same?!? I have no first hand knowledge about the product besides YouTube videos and some forum posts on other sites. I’m more interested to learn the following as it pertains to the hardware: - ISY Integration: Does it currently integrate with this controller - Syncing: Does the product sync to other groups of blinds to open / close and unknown limitations? - Install: Love to know any limitations or problems seen during the physical install to using their smart app - Power: What type of power are you using 120 VAC / Solar / Battery? https://amzn.to/3kf0XVv

- Can be physically link no problem - Can be added via ISY but some options are not available or present - The new line will slowly release more core hardware no ETA - Latest hardware allows firmware updates - Multi LED color is present but can’t be changed - yet - No clue if the hardware continues to use the same cheap electrical components - No third party support from Smartlabs

[emoji106] None of that negates the fact some things should never be automated as I referenced to the imbecile that caused his son to lose a hand / arm! Because he was too stupid to understand and use any common sense that placing a smart switch / outlet and never testing common scenarios like fail safe vs fail secure would operate when loss of power happened! No, in this specific case they were too far away and losing speed and altitude at a fast rate. If you watch the movie or better yet read the entire (corrected) information you’ll see the pilot Mr. Scully made a split decision with all the variables at play and safely landed the aircraft in the Hudson River. Spoiler Alert: The only reason the computer simulations and test pilots knew to act was simply because they PRE KNEW! Any fool can do X vs Y when you know something is going to happen. This incident, note I did not say *accident* because there was no loss of life or airplane and is also officially listed as incident by the NTSB. When the test pilots and the computer systems were asked how many attempts were done with success vs failure. The reply was X failed and only Y was successful due to the fact they PRE KNEW and began heading back toward safety which isn’t even close to reality or capability of anyone much less a computer. Why?? Because no computer can know what to do without being programmed to do X vs Y by who HUMAN. If no such what if scenario is considered no such solution will exist to be implemented! Regardless, that is simply one of many examples of human intervention that saved the day. In no way does it negate the facts human error is the largest factor in accidents and direct causal affect to loss of life! [emoji3516] Computers have a role in making our lives safer for sure. There are millions of examples of how that is but it doesn’t supersede the need for the human element to be involved or present. [emoji106]

Lots of good information from the members as always. Some things to consider if your home spans multi generations of Insteon or have lots of electronics in the home. In no order of relevance or priority: Coupling / Bridging: Regardless of full dual band install this (beacon) test must be completed to identify bad zones. If your home continues to use single band it’s imperative this is done, in place, and working. Hardware: There has been no less than seven revisions to the various light switches. All of the 1-4 generations exhibited pulsing, blinking, buzz, hiss, to LED ramping issues. These devices if present should be considered suspect and replaced. EOP: If you have any Ethernet over power line especially 1-3 generations units these are Insteon noise makers. Loads: As you already noted a bad LED design can display erratic blinking, strobing, to pulsing never mind not turning off. Every load should be tested for being a noise maker / signal sucker. This is easily done using old school methods of a AM FM radio, fluorescent bulb, assuming you have no test gear. Anything that causes the radio to receive noise is in the air and power line. You see the tube bulb *dance* and flicker to something running like a motor / pump / compressor etc. It’s on the line and in the air! This is why every home should start by installing only proven neutral electronics and filter everything else possible. TESTS: The ISY Series Controller if used correctly can offer insight by reviewing error logs, scene test. Newer switches have blink on error this should be used to help narrow down root cause. Unplugging devices is the long way but sure way to identify noise makers vs signal suckers. Turning off breakers allows an entire branch circuit to be killed but also introduces problems of breaking coupling / bridging and giving you false positives! Because things won’t turn on / off because devices are no longer connected! Power: As others noted every device from the service panel must have solid wiring fully terminated. Do NOT simply turn the Marret / wire nut with your finger! Every wire must be terminated with linesman pliers. If you’re using clip & go connectors insure they are fully seated and clamped. Every home has GFCI / AFCI at the breaker, outlet, point of use. Any of these devices which are from 2010 and below are suspect. If you’re rocking 1986 of the same throw them out. Appliances: I know lots of folks who still like to rock those old school clocks and fridges because they have that 50’s vibe look. Many of these devices are Insteon killers as they use components and technology that are literally exploding inside. Besides that any appliance that has a silly computer inside is a candidate to be a Insteon signal sucker as has been proven by the Samsh^t TV fridge / LCD Stove / Washer / Dryer / Dishwasher.

It’s been awhile since being on the pilot forums but think you’re correct. The one instance the pilots fought their own training and followed the computer and hence the loss of life. Thus it affirms our reliance on technology despite our ability to know better but ignore the same will be the demise of humans. I’m going to throw another example which always comes up yet no one ever counters when the facts are presented. Statistics / number of people . . . They ran so called thousands of simulations and followed up with so called pilots to prove this could be done vs a force controlled landing in a river! Sure, just like every aircraft in the skies today. Two people enter a destination and once the plane is up in the air the two pilots literally do nothing. I suppose they are window dressing. I guess when Boeing had to recall and every nation that had that plane with bad software to tell the planes up was down and vs the guy at the helm didn’t make a difference?!? I mean literally because the pilots are no longer trained and seasoned professionals but just grown ups playing arcade game pretending to be a pilot?!? It’s not just trust it’s the fact there are simple realities of life which dictates human must always be ever present. Does it stop anyone from trying to push the boundaries of technology of now? Of course not . . . I would love to enter any mode of transport and do something else. Guess what that by default makes you a PASSENGER! Your reply like others absolutely does NOT answer the root questions. Both Air Bus & Boeing have systems that are CERTIFIED and PROVEN to complete all three tasks unaided. The highest litmus test (Military) who take more risks than any industry has not, will not, ever transport their soldiers in any vehicle without the aid of a in seat pilot! The military isn’t bound by conventional laws and sure as sh^t have them changed if theirs a need for X vs Y. Happens every year to allow something so illegal and absurd but it’s done! My position has never been about if the new generation of vehicles will be safer. Nor am I ignoring the gobs of R&D to achieve the same. What I have affirmed is the most basic requirements have not or will ever be present to allow this technology to roam around at scale all over the world. Once again no less than ten Tesla drivers absolutely know the limits of the current technology. Yet stupid went out of their way to ignore and circumvent the vehicles safety features?!? I’m not confused about the topic or discussion at hand. What I have done is provide real concerns and examples of different industries that have proven it can be done. Yet none of these industries have adopted or allowed a single mode of transport to carry the general public from A-B?!? The obvious goal was to see how it operated by man, programmed, autonomous. The obvious question was the next stage of human transport. Never is indeed a very long time for anything. Just to change gears for a moment lots of people are completely surprised to learn my position on self driving vehicles. Those who know me see I embrace technology with a quickness - to a point. That technology spans almost everything imaginable to help provide the safety, security, and sometimes the convenience I seek. But no where do I ever use technology to circumvent basic health & safety! As it relates to the GM / Michelin proving grounds it’s used primarily for arctic winter testing. But is also used year round for spring - rain, and blazing hot dry summers. The test site has one major road course and two auxiliary ones which can be changed to inject typical obstacles and hazards found in real life roadways. My position is if any company is able to faithfully, repeatedly, pass these basic to advanced tests vs a human driver. Then, I’ll consider the technology has advanced far enough where I could sit in the back seat blindfolded. [emoji3516] The very fact not one single company has taken on this world renowned standardized test proves the technology isn’t ready or capable to do the same.
