In my case, "easy" has nothing to do with it. Installing shades or anything else in my home comes down to doing it the way I want it, regardless of how "easy" it is. My wife says I'm "stubborn". 🤔 Are you talking about swapping out the shades down the road with another brand/vendor? I don't see the problem. Obviously any battery powered shades could be installed. And as far as the hardwire, the cat5e cabling could easily be used to supply 12V, or whatever, if desired.

Has anyone else seen the new SmartWings motors that are Matter Over Ethernet and PoE? Is eisy's Matter going to be able to control these? I was just about to start running 16/2 to a few of my windows. Even bought a 500ft roll of cable and a power supply. Then I ran across the announcement from SmartWings. This will probably change all of my plans.

Eisy is a MeLE Quieter3Q Mini PC. You might find something searching for that.

I've decommissioned my Autelis XN200 "Pool Control For Pentair". I know these things are unobtanium, but that doesn't mean they are in demand. So... anybody interested? I'll let it go for a token amount to cover shipping if anyone wants it. If there are 2 or more (doubtful, but you never know), it'll got to the highest bidder.

I added memory to my eisy per this article: https://developer.isy.io/blog/NVMe/ I did so in anticipation of adding a VM with Home Assistant per this article: https://developer.isy.io/blog/Home Assistant I added the memory, but I did not install the VM. I went a different direction and now I would like to remove the memory from the eisy to use somewhere else. Do I just pull the memory stick out and that's it? Or do I need to enter some commands in terminal first?

No way to detect/trigger on scene events in IoX?
carealtor replied to Guy Lavoie's topic in IoX Program Support
IMHO, a Scene should be Executed (turned "on" if you will) and nothing else... Launching a macro, as @Guy Lavoie said. Controlling a bunch of things together (on, off, dim, etc) is a Group. The beautiful thing about IoX is that you can do both/either with the Scene functionality. It's up to us how we use it. -
No way to detect/trigger on scene events in IoX?

Before the Virtual plugin came along I was doing this with an unused keypad. This gave me 8 virtual switches in one physical device. -
Can a HA device be connected to an insteon keypad?
carealtor replied to Blackbird's topic in Home Assistant
Assuming you are using the HA ISY Integration? I don't see why you couldn't write a little HA Automation that triggers off of the Insteon Keypad button press. -
2 reasons I moved from Polisy to eisy 1. Smaller package. Space is at a premium in my SMC and I can get the eisy in it with a half width bracket instead of a full width bracket. 2. You can put VMs on it like Home Assistant. Can't do this with Polisy.

As suggested, I switched the reed switch to NO and unchecked Trigger Reverse. All seems good now. It still leaves 3 mysteries: - Why did this never show up for me as an issue when using Polisy? - Why does Home Assistant show the State correctly? - Why has Insteon never fixed this? I'm not expecting any answers here. Just wondering. Thanks!
-
@IndyMike Thanks for the workaround and the link. Are you of the opinion that a new IOLinc has fixed this issue? I still think there is more to this problem. The State for this Entity in Home Assistant is ALWAYS correct, even when the Admin Console shows it wrong.
-
1. Yes 2. I think NC, but not sure how that is relevant?
-
I just tested this extensively with another/spare IOLinc that I have in my stash. Exactly the same incorrect behavior.
-
I believe this to be an issue with eisy as I did not have this issue with Polisy. I have an IOLinc 2450 that I use the sensor side to tell me if a garage door is open or closed. I do not use the relay side for anything. If I operate the garage door, and thus cycle the sensor, the Admin Console will show the status correctly. BUT, if I run a Query, the status will always come back reversed to the actual status. In the options for this IOLinc, I have selected Trigger Reverse. This is part of puzzle if anyone is trying to replicate this. With Trigger Reverse unchecked the inconsistency does not occur. What is also interesting is that Home Assistant is always showing the correct status. So, HA will correctly show the door position, while at the same moment in time (after a Query), the Admin Console will show it incorrectly. My guess is this is some kind of glitch with the Query of an IOLinc where it is not taking into account the Trigger Reverse option? This would normally not be much of an issue as I don't make it a habit of doing a Query on this IOLinc (or any other device for that matter). But I do need to occasionally reboot IoX, which Queries all devices.

"Restore Backup" vs "Migrate from PG3 backup"
carealtor replied to carealtor's topic in Polyglot v3 (PG3x)
So, it sounds like there would be no difference in my case because I only have Insteon and no Zwave. -
"Restore Backup" vs "Migrate from PG3 backup"
carealtor replied to carealtor's topic in Polyglot v3 (PG3x)
Surprised that nobody knows the answer to this. -
Well, that is certainly the other option I've been toying with. Moving my HA from one VM to another doesn't seem like accomplishing much... EXCEPT, I wouldn't have to deal with my host machine updating and rebooting without me know it. That, and having one less box to find space for.
-
What is the difference, if any, between "Restore Backup" and "Migrate from PG3 backup"? I just moved from Polisy to eisy and the instructions I was following (the wiki) said to use the migrate button and I mistakenly used the restore. Should I do anything to resolve this misstep? I have everything working again, so there doesn't seem to be any lasting issues from this that I can tell.

Ah. Obviously I never tried it.

"Repeat 0 times" ?

Can HA run some devices like the Node Server?
carealtor replied to Blackbird's topic in Home Assistant
I don't claim to know everything about motorized blinds/shades, but I have been learning what I can. The big difference between your Ecobee and shades is that your Ecobee is hardwired and thus can (and does) use WiFi. Battery powered shades don't use WiFi, thus some other communication method has to be used like Zwave. Another option would be to use a Bond Bridge, which mimics the RF remote that comes with the shades. This is what I will be using. So, your goal of not adding an antenna, or some other device like a Bond, is probably not going to pan out. Unless you go with hardwired shades, then you could use WiFi. Smartwings has all these options and has become pretty popular for DIY. -
Thanks for this @Geddy This is exactly my concern... I don't know if I trust my tech abilities to take this on. I certainly would not be able to troubleshoot if anything goes wrong. Hence my initial question about there being a factory reset on eisy. I have very limited space in my "technology box" in the master bedroom closet. The idea of combing IoX and HA into one smallish box has a big appeal to me. I already have HA running on an always on Windows 10 desktop in another room via a VM (VirtualBox), but wanting to move off it. It works great, but I just don't like realizing that it isn't running because Windows did an update and is waiting for me to log in again. I use Polisy for all my automation duties. I use HA for it's pretty interface.
-
Doh! I always forget about the Wiki. Thanks @DennisC

Very seriously considering upgrading from Polisy to eisy and installing Home Assistant. My fear is I mess something up and the IoX portion gets corrupted. Hypothetically, if this were to happen, is there some sort of reset on the eisy that will put it back to "out of the box" status?

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that an RPi is not the hot ticket. Either a "mini-pc" as vbPhil is suggesting, or run HA on a Virtual Machine. I wouldn't waste my time on an RPi. If you have one laying around, that would be a different story. If you want to just test the water for free, then go the VM route. I've been running HA on a VirtualBox VM for a few years now. Works great.
