I have 2 ISY's but they do not control the same devices. One controls the house and the other one is used to test new devices. I have backups of all of my devices that I use to make sure that all are compatible with whatever new version firmware comes out. Due to WAF, I dont mess with the house stuff (updates/upgrades)until checked. I went this route because trying to do something and reset the ISY etc. proved to be too time consuming. Technically you can accomplish what you are trying to do with a single ISY the way you said. Personally, I would get a second ISY and focus on redoing your system that way as it can cut down on the number of half links you may potentially leave in older devices.

You could simplify even more. If status lights are off And fan is on Wait 20 min. Turn fan off This would allow the fan to beon while the bathroom was being used regardless of how long. You could shorten the duration or makeit turn off immediately should you choose.

I use the 5.0 branch with over 100+ insteon/zwave/hue (network resources) without any issues. While upgrading can initially cause issues, they are generally easy to fix. Backups should be made regardless of title. There are some bugs that may effect specific types of users. This can happen even with "official release" builds.

Being that your house is as you described, it would behoove you to invest in zwave in order to reliably talk to your lock. If that's not something you're willing to do, I wouldn't pursue using locks as you'll end up with more problems than you solve.

Just to add to what Meester said, instead of focusing on what is in front of you, it would behoove you to simply read the other postings on the zwave forum anyway. Long term, the more you know and understand zwave, the greater ability you have to take advantage of your devices capabilities. Reading on other devices means you can take advantage of different use cases to expand what your home can do. For example, while you're inquiring about a repeater (regardless of which works better) having a siren not only repeats signals but can give you a back up alert system for someone opening the door. Maybe reading about a particular plugin module gives you an idea on how to verify kids use of a TV. You've just extended the range of your system and increased capability. It's easy to be lazy and take the quick route of hoping others simply answer your questions instead of doing research. However your doing yourself a disservice by not doing research. In doing so, you'll have a much stronger and robust system long term.

I would recommend reading the last few topics on locks that are on the zwave subforum. There's enough information there that will allow you to make an informed decision on how best to proceed in your home. They already cover all that you are asking as well as what those who don't invest properly go through.

Try moving to a location without issues and update. If it still doesn't work it's the device and a replacement will work. If it does work then it's something with that location and a new device may not work unless you have other dual band devices within range.

It can help. However you could still have issues. You're better off fixing the source of your problems than putting a bandaid on it. I would unscrew the bulbs and test communication. If it improves, I would go with a different brand of led. I've found Philips warm glow and feit enhance line works well with insteon. Others will have their favorites as well.

What is it controlling? Sometimes bulbs such as cfl puts out a lot of noise as the age. While the light output is still good, it causes havoc on Powerline communications

I use and prefer zwave sensors over Insteon sensors. My personal favorites are the fibaro sensors but there are others out there. Switching to zwave isn't as easy as adding the model and zwave sensors. Depending on where the sensors are located, you may need additional zwave devices in order for the ISY to talk to your sensors. Before embarking on that journey (depending on finances), I would buy a few zwave devices such as the Aeotech Smartswitch 6 or Aeotech siren to build out your network and then get the sensors that you want. Using the 5.0 branch of the ISY allows additional control and features for zwave.

Bumbershoot's example is what I would do to. If the condition of the most important thing is met, disable the program for the least important.

You can run a network heal to see if that helps. Does your leviton switch support secure beaming? If not I would swap it with the siren, do a network heal and see if communication improves.

I wouldn't worry about that part. Even if all of them went out of business, there will be another technology and another controller around to switch to. It's not like your system would immediately stop working and parts would be available for sometime afterwards as well.

I agree with this. I use alot of 3rd party stuff that works equally well with or without the ISY. I like simplicity in my designs. Everything is done in a way where guests don't need a manual to use things out feel the need to ask 101 questions

I built my house so i had control over the wiring. I made sure that they wired it in a standard way (limited to no more than 4 switches per wall box). I stand use standard dinners for all the loads but I use kpls still to control the room. My house is set up to operate without the ISY. I did this so that convenience is lost not functionality should the ISY or plm go down. All of this allows me to leave everything behind should i move (I'd want new switches anyway) and the home owner want to keep the system. Should they not, I can simply pull everything out and replace with standard switches. The hardest thing to replace would be my flood lights as those use inlinelinc dimmers and are not wired direct to a switch. With that said, I would simply replace them with a cheap motion controlled flood light.

I would avoid a dimming product at all costs and get a new strip that would support a 3 prong device. Insteon and quality zwave devices are about the same price (insteon may be a little cheaper in some cases). If you don't already have a zwave mesh network setup, you may need additional devices for your ISY to reliably talk to the zwave module you purchase which means greater cost.

Try rebooting your ISY. Also is your plm plugged into a surge protector?

At this point it sounds like it's bad. I would return it for a replacement

When you attempted the factory reset did you hold the button in until the buzzing stopped (about 10 sec.). I know it sounds crazy asking but many people do it improperly. Another thing is to make sure it's a 2477d and not a 2477s

I've been testing the aeotech smartswitch 6 and it's been working really well in regards to showing usage.

I'm on the other side of the fence. While zwave has some great products, the platform on a whole is too fractured for me to wholely support. Until they truly catch up to Insteon when it comes to core features, speed, and ease of use, I can't pick them over Insteon. Insteon has its issues. I do agree that they do need to add more to their devices. They need to figure out the plm issue (though I think it's blamed too much). Even then, after spending more on Valentine's day chocolate's than what a plm costs, what's buying a new one 3-4 years from now in order to accomplish what I have? I think Insteon is much easier to get started with while learning automation as well as having better looking & feeling switches. Choose the wrong zwave product and a person can be set back for years (someone without the financial means to correct).
