I'd agree except he is using zwave and running that through a separate program. Insteon all on shouldn't include zwave

I know it hasn't been that way for say least 10 years. Thank God they changed it

I've never seen them ask for the date code when it came to warranty claims. Unless something has changed, they've generally gone by when bought and from where.

Zwave Failing to Add - Inovelli Switch

You can't say that and not tell us the story. That just makes us even more curious. Lol -
Zwave Failing to Add - Inovelli Switch

There's only 1 version of the ISY with zwave unless he purchased a used one (i highly doubt he did). Most likely he has the newer 500 series chip which is the important part. I added @Michel Kohanimso that he can be aware of things. While some of us install zwave for consumers and could potentially help you test things, UDI is the most important player as it would be them getting the devices to work properly with the ISY on their end. -

Absolute certification vs non certified has nothing to do with whether or not a product will work with a particular controller or not. Certification only means that a device has passed the zwave alliance requirements (technincal and market) that it conforms to specific sets of requirements. This is why both chips are able to work with other devices while UDI is in this process (and partly why 5.0 is not official). I havent installed inovelli in any home that Ive done ISY installations either so I cant speak on any reasons why there is problems with the isy. I've tried many of different brands of stuff over the years and do notice there is a difference. For example, I no longer use fibaro as the changes they've made to newer devices have been finicky when it comes to the ISY. On the other hand, Dome works without issue (which has replaced fibaro as my go to). Ive found this to be true with other controllers as well. With smartthings, there are many "certified" devices that still needs custom device handlers. Once inovelli comes out with their fan controller, I may take a look at it to see if I can find any issues myself (and if its worth installing on jobs). I can say that I am pleased that Inovelli is at least willing to figure out something unlike fibaro who simply gave me the run around. -
The remote can't be updated with its status since it's battery powered and goes back to sleep. The best thing you can do is create a variable that tracks button presses and use that in your program instead. You'll want to remove the direct link from the remote to that scene otherwise the on/off command will always be sent to the device. I personally would use non toggle on but that all depends on what else you have planned for the buttons

This question had been posed many times so I won't go into the particular differences between insteon and zwave. The questions I'd ask myself is when choosing anything is what am I looking for in a device. While subjective, I start off with what matters most which is presentation. Currently, when it comes to look, feel, and paddle response, I haven't found a zwave device that beats insteon in that price range on those. Next is features. The main things I look for is what does a switch give in regards to doing it's primary job. I worry first about devices turning on, off, and dimming. Currently, no zwave device offers the ease of programming and customizing of ramp rates and dim levels. Due to the nature of insteon scenes, you can have a multitude of different ramp rates and light levels for any given situation with a single device or multiple devices. Secondary features are important so at that point, it comes down to what features do you want. Are you looking for features to say you have features or something specific. If it's something specific that overrides what you can do with the primary function then that's your answer. Personally, I feel insteon is better for lighting while zwave is better for everything else. Zwaves popcorn effect vs insteon's synchronized on/off capability makes zwave worthless in the grand scheme of things. Insteon can't touch zwave on sensors and door locks. There's simply no comparison. While I use mostly insteon outlets, I do make extensive use of zwave outlets for my mesh network. In a couple of locations I have zwave occupancy switches for the same purpose. Which brings me to my last thought.... You have a controller that can take advantage of the best device for any given situation. Why limit yourself to either or?

I did. It said I'm up to date.

What is your firmware version? I wonder if yours have actually completed the last one which is why it's constantly saying there's an update
-
Where are you seeing it call for updates? Generally, updates for the nodeservers show up next to the nodeserver that needs to be updated. I havent seen an update for my polisy. At least not as of last night. Do you have the box for beta updates checked?

You dont necessarily need the portal if you have mobilinc and mobilinc connect. Personally, I would rather have everything run through my isy as it would allow me to use different services whenever I want vs having to reconfigure things should I ever decide to leave a particular service.

Cant argue with that reasoning! lol

While it would be nice on the surface, I think this would be a dangerous thing to have when it comes to new users. Reality is, if all is good, the ISY shouldnt have to be rebooted. If it does need rebooting regularly, then there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Automating that task would most likely cause casual users more problems than it solves.

I'm not having issues. Try forgot password or contact Amazon.

You mean like they do in the instructions? https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Portal_Installation_Instructions

I love the look. It looks great

Are you sure the lights are dimmable? What type of transformer are you using? Is it a dimmable transformer

The lamplinc requires a minimum of 5w in order to operate properly. It wouldn't surprise me if the outlet had the same requirement. Your bulbs wattage might be too low

I use the portal for my google and alexa setups as well without any issues. At one time, I did use google and alexa speakers but have since switched over to using Sonos 1 speakers in their place. I do still have 2 google devices (a hub and clock). All work exactly the same. Even when I switched over, I didnt have to make any changes. The system itself just worked. Everything you do starts with how you set your system up. Any shortcuts will only compound matters worse the farther you get. You say your naming covention in the ISY isnt the best. If thats the case, how can you expect things to work right 2 or 3 steps down? For starters, you dont necessarily need to put the name of the device in your spoken. Using your kitchen for example. You dont need to put kitchen in front of each device. You can simply add them to the room in the portal with their name. Island can be called island not kitchen island. Cabinet lights can be called cabinet, breakfast nook can be called Nook, etc. etc. Once you add it to google, they should appear in the app in the assigned room. Then, when you're in the kitchen, simply saying turn on the island will turn that light on. For my setup, I simply used the lights I use most in the room to turn on. I dont try to control every single device as I dont want to remember specific phrases or names. When turning off, I trigger a program which turns off everything. That way, regardless of whats on, they all turn off. I can walk out and say turn off the lights. No phrasing or remembering what something is called. Whatever is on turns off.

I'm not sure why you're having such a hard time. I simply tell Google or alexa to turn my lights on or off and they simply work. If something is in the room you don't have to say the room name. It's literally as simple as saying turn on the light. If I want to control something in another room such as the master bedroom, I'll say turn off the master bedroom light. Most likely, the issues you're having is with how you have set up your system vs the system itself.

There's a roomie subforum. You may want to post there as all users don't check every post.
