  1. MrBill, Smarhome is not Insteon. Smarthome is the retail outlet for Insteon products. In fact, Insteon did not even exist when Smarthome began selling HA products. Smarthome also sells Insteon competitors products as well as a host of other products both akin and not related to HA. I'm not sure what you mean by, "they normalized the look of the switches over time." I've been buying Smarthome switches and keypads from the beginning when their branded devices were X10 compatible and their appearance is virtually identical to devices being sold today (the fitment of the KPL frame was inverted wrt/the set button). On a personal note, I find it considerably easier to use my voice or even touch a button than to pull out a smart phone and have to tap, not once, but several times to get to the device I want to turn on. But, that's just me
  2. That is unusual. My dupes show one and only one item for each spoken. For example each of the following has 2 spokens (2 scenes each with 2 spokens = 4 Alexa devices discovered as expected) dining room DR Ceiling Light (scene) dining room light DR Ceiling Light (scene) . . bright LR Bright (scene) bright light LR Bright (scene) If you forget the extraneous listings and then re-discover, do they reappear?
  3. oberkc, is there any automation benefit of having one or the other or both. I'm not interested in anything other than HA wrt/these products.
  4. You found it! That would have been my next query-number of spokens for each device/scene. IIRC, an earlier Alexa app listed one device/scene with a comma separating spokens.
  5. In the portal app (not the Alexa app), how many spokens do you have for each device/scene? Have you added both devices and scenes to the portal app?
  6. Some Echos & Dots: 588442920 Other Echos & Dots: 588443520 All Echos & Dots: Client Version 1.24.2573.0 The account where I'm using open and close includes both 2920 & 3520. New: open and close seems to work with devices and scenes, so they can't be reserved words.
  7. I'm on V2. I have no idea what V3 will bring.
  8. It's not the first time I read too quickly. Thanks for the wake-up
  9. You're correct, neither open nor close works for locks. "Lock" works, for security "unlock" doesn't. So, no "open" and "close" are not reserved. Both work dependably for us, but only for the garage door programs. I have absolutely no idea why open and close work for our garages, but not for any other program. Here's the program for my garage (my wife's program is identical except for Mini Remote button 2, Garage 2 and KPL button F) : If Control 'CR / Devices / CRM-B Driveway Gate / CRM-C Garage1' is switched On <--Mini Remote Or Control 'DR / Devices / DR Side Door Light / DR Side Door E Garage Door 1' is switched On <---KPL Then Set 'GG / Garage1 Control / GG1 ZW028 Binary Switch' On <--This is a MIMOlite I/O device Wait 2 seconds Set 'GG / Garage1 Control / GG1 ZW028 Binary Switch' Off Else Set 'GG / Garage1 Control / GG1 ZW028 Binary Switch' On Wait 2 seconds Set 'GG / Garage1 Control / GG1 ZW028 Binary Switch' Off Note that Then and Else are identical. I could use any of Open, Close, On or Off because GDOs don't distinguish between commands, they're simply toggles like KPL secondary buttons. I could (and may) create separate programs for opening and closing the garage doors by using the state of the sensor.
  10. What you read is correct, a blinking red LED indicates that one or more responders in the scene did not ACK the signal. Without seeing the comparison it's not possible to comment on what may have been wrong, but a restore performed a correction. Two things, first you should whenever possible power up the PLM before the ISY and second placing the PLM on a UPS effectively makes the PLM a singe-band RF device only.
  11. What you posted is not a scene, it's a program that runs three separate scenes. Based on the program, the response you are getting, that is, turning the three scenes on but not off is as expected. The Alexa app will never turn those scenes off. That because when Alexa controls a program, On runs Then and Off runs Else. Simply add the three scenes to Else with a state of Off--or place all three scenes in an Alexa group.
  12. Yes, powerline noise is known to interfere with Insteon signals even if the arriving signal is RF. That's because the device is connected to the powerline and "reads" both powerline and RF signals. However, powerline noise is easy to control. The difficulty is finding the offending device. But a systematic approach virtually always identifies the culprit.
  13. I just verified that both open and close still works for our garage doors. We control the garage doors using MIMOLite I/O devices and programs.
  14. What you posted shows adding first, then excluding. My suggestion was the reverse, exclude before include. In particular, after selecting exclude and pressing the device button, usually once or twice rapidly, the exclude panel should close if the exclude was successful.
  15. Sometimes excluding a Z-Wave device first enables including the device correctly.
  16. I trust that that requires that Insteon Labs transfers the required technical info to UDI.
  17. Insteon devices never transmit X10 house/unit codes when remotely controlled. Nor do they transmit to any other Insteon device unless manually manipulated. That's what scenes are for.
  18. For both the firmware and UI?
  19. There exists many products that are limited to one source, Lutron and Somfy RTS come to mind. X10 compatible devices which are manufactured by a variety of vendors adhere to the same functionality, Z-Wave devices do not. Insteon locks are atrocious, they don't even report their state. There's a wide variety of Z-Wave locks to choose from, but again, the features are not consistent. OTOH, the range of styles makes them a good choice. There's no Z-Wave equivalent for Insteon 5- and 8-function KPLs nor is there a dimmable Z-Wave receptacle. Insteon has nothing like the Z-Wave doorbell. I can and do use custom etched buttons and paddles for both Somfy and Insteon. Their appearance is impressive. That's not possible with Z-Wave devices. There are endless discussions either praising or disparaging both Insteon and Z-wave. I go for BoB (Best of Both).
  20. Is the ISY firmware and UI both 4.6.2? What's the result if you exclude the device (more than once)?
  21. Which ISY version are you referring to?
  22. Have you tried heal? synchronize?
  23. As has been stated, battery powered devices will not show their status unless there's a change of state or they're queried after placing the device into linking mode. That they don't show their status after an outage in no way affects the functioning of the device.
  24. Like lilyoyo1, I have KPLs all over the place. That way I can control all the lights in any particular room from one location, not just the ceiling light. Too, as our home is quite old, any room that has multiple entrys had only one switch. Not any more
  25. The MIMOLite has the same function as the I/O Linc, sense and relay. But the settings (e.g., duration) need to be set using parameters of a program.
