  1. The only thing that I consider a successful 'reserved' word use are the shortcuts for my Zwave curtains. Rather than using ON and OFF (which sounds weird) I can use Open and Close through the short cut option of GH.
  2. Never make assumptions...... Sometimes I wish living in a house in the prairie, having the freedom to do (almost) whatever I want. How is that luxury in Canada ? BTW Comcast may try to change our condo contract when it expires in 3 years and take away the unlimited bandwidth. Hopefully there will be more competition so that we are not 'married' to Comcast.
  3. I fully understand. In our condo unlimited bandwidth comes included with our building maintenance fee. At least one benefit coming from our too expensive condo maintenance.
  4. agreed
  5. My wife would not agree with you
  6. Larry, I have nothing against Alexa and like it. I started with GH because my Son gave me one and then I got a few more. The set-up of the Hub is exactly like GH or Google Mini via the GH App. There IS a lot of info available on the screen but I don't really see much need for it myself. It is just my kitchen clock with GH voice control and a screen on top of it. There are nice gimmicks, such as when you cast a radio station it will show the song that is playing. and when ask for the weather it will actually show you what you would see in your browser...... nice but not used often. Like you I have an audio setup, using Chromecast devices that are connected to an amplifier and speakers. There is one for audio in the living room and kitchen and another one in the master bathroom. I can instruct what to play by asking GH "Play radio station XYZ on Chromecast Bathroom". I can even setup GH to automatically choose a specific Chromecast without having to specify which Chromecast every time. Before I was using Sonos but the radio stations stream was interrupted multiple times every day. This occurs a lot less with Chromecast, and I was able to sell my Sonos devices on Ebay close to the original purchase price (which I got with a 30 % discount at the time) and Chromecast gives me better results and is so much cheaper. What I really would want is to have a ISY program that instructs my Chromecast to play a specific radio station at a specific time.
  7. I now have had the Google Home Hub for two weeks and would like to share my impressions. I am not overwhelmed by this device. I already had several Google Home devices and like them. Voice control of my ISY linked Zwave devices generally works well. On the Hub I can also control my devices. However, though I can switch ON or OFF, and even DIM and Brighten these devices, there is no indication whether the lights are actually ON or OFF. It shows switches on the screen with ON or OFF but these do not actually show current status. Furthermore, frequently when switching a device on OR or OFF (and it does what I select), there is an error message that the device is not connected to my Wifi. Obviously my ISY linked devices (all Zwave) are not connected to Wifi. The Google Hub has no camera. Some may find this an advantage in terms of privacy, others may find this a limitation compared to similar devices by Amazon and Facebook. The hub looks nice as a clock (default screen is time), but other than that I don't use the screen functions very often. I find so far limited advantage of the visual versus the voice control, especially taking into account the price differential.
  8. What I can see so far is that, compared to Mobilinc, the App does not show the status (ON/OFF) of the device. If they can get this option as well, then it will be as useful as Mobilinc. I assume that Wes will come with new gimmicks to keep us using his product.
  9. Other than look and sound quality, how do they compare in usability ?
  10. I jumped in and ordered the Google Hub. I dont know when it arrives. It has no camera, apparently for security reasons, though I would have preferred it with camera. If it is somehow similar to the new GH App, then most likely I will like it.
  11. So does mine.
  12. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/10/google-home-hub-under-the-hood-its-nothing-like-other-google-smart-displays/?amp=1 And.... the new Google Hub supposedly looks very nice and would be great having in a room to control your ISY devices and other devices (Nest etc).
  13. So do Homeseer Zwave Series 200 switches
  14. The new Google Home App is quite amazing. I can control all my Google Home devices, my Nest thermostats and all my ISY devices from one page.
  15. I already have 2 Google Home and 2 Google Mini devices, but I am wondering whether this Hub will work like Mobilinc and/or Agave....
  16. https://www.engadget.com/2018/10/09/google-home-hub-hands-on/ I'd like to know if and how this new Google Home Hub will integrate with our ISY.....
  17. " I can now see each room in my house getting an Alexa to sit right next to my Google Homes. And double the admin overhead as well... " Exactly my thought.
  18. ?
  19. It all depends what you use them for. Amazon has a greater variety of products and is actually integrated in 3'rd party products. I just ordered the EchoAuto which (hopefully) will work better than my lousy BMW Connected Drive. On the other hand GH benefits from Google's very large knowledge base and gives better information. My setup is mostly GH for no reason other than my first device was given to me and it happened to be a GH. We now have Google Minis throughout the home and use these for info, to make phone calls and to control our ISY connected lights, fans and curtains. It works most of the time. No big complaints.
  20. Totally true. If you look for a quick and easy mesh improvement, then use plug-in devices such as the Inoveli or similar Zwave Plus plugin modules.
  21. I use a qualified electrician for any wiring issue, other than for replacing one Zwave switch for another, but have used info from this forum to guide my electrician on Zwave specificities..
  22. Athlon, I definitely do not like your signature. It took me a while to figure out that there was no fly on my screen.
  23. Others are far more qualified than I am, but these are my two cents......... A regular Non-Zwave 3-way has 2 Traveller wires, while with Zwave (*) you only need 1. As such you can use one of the two Traveller wires to bring Neutral to the switch. (*) As mentioned before, Inovelli has a simpler 3-way connection that works great for me.
  24. I have several 3 (and 4) way setups. In one 3-way case the (auxiliary) switch box is in a concrete wall and a Zwave switch would not fit. I resolved this by replacing the main switch with an Inovelli ON/OFF switch and the auxiliary switch is just a plain old non-Zwave switch. The Inovelli wiring makes that possible and the 3-way works perfectly.
  25. Michel 1. All my devices are working 2. I performed a Sync all nodes and then again tried to backup but with same negative result . Pls see attachments Screen Shot 2018-08-19 at 2.39.34 PM.pdf Screen Shot 2018-08-19 at 2.39.53 PM.pdf Screen Shot 2018-08-19 at 2.42.55 PM.pdf
