I had to move my original RemoteLincs far away from the PLM. So the communications had to go thorough a different Dual Band device before I could update it.

If "Control is switched Off" no longer working. PLM bad?

I have seen posts that 1C had the new value capacitors. 2.0 definitely would have them. -

There should be a white sticker on the back of the 2413S. It should give you a hardware revision. I have a 2413S with 9B firmware and it is a hardware 1.B. I also don't think it is two years old but I would have to look for the invoice or look at my purchasing records on the Smarthome sales site. -
If you can connect all the AC power for the computing equipment. On the filtered outlet of a FilterLinc. You can then plug the PLM into the unfiltered pass through outlet on the front of the FilterLinc. That is how mine is connected.
-
Good to hear of your progress and you are closer to completely OK.
-
The wiki page may also give you clearer information. Yes unplug the PLM and the ISY994i external power supply Wait maybe thirty seconds and plug in the PLM and let it completely power up. Then plug in the external power supply for the ISY994i. So the new PLM is then detected. NEVER use Delete Modem (PLM) choice. It will remove all the PLM references in all the Insteon devices in your system. The Restore Modem (PLM) function does a software command PLM reset and then writes to the PLM.
-
LeeG may have a more details on what to do after using the Restore Modem (PLM) function with out the ISY994i controller detecting the new PLM ID. http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:File_Menu See the Restore Modem (PLM) section of the above wiki page. Do you have a recent backup if needed?

If the plug in coupler is a Smarthome 4816 It is a passive coupler. If the plug in coupler is a Smarthome 4826 It is an active coupler repeater. If you have any Smarthome BoosterLinc enabled X10 clones they can also be a problem with Insteon. If your AC power to the ISY994i and 2413S PLM is on the same branch circuit as your computing equipment. It could cause power line signal issues. If the equipment is absorbing signals or making power line noise. A filterLinc may help.
-
Did you power down the old PLM and ISY controller. Swap the serial cable to the new PLM. Power up the new PLM first and allow it to completely initialize. Then power up the ISY994i so it found the new PLM at boot up.

How old are the wall switches? The early ones in the 2006-2007 era. Have a known tact switch problem. Where the local paddles would click the tact switch but no action happened. Remotely they where fine. Smarthome actually extended the warranty on them to seven years.

If there is a white sticker on the back. The numbers on it should give you an idea of approximate age. It is most likely a V1.0 as my original 2413S was a V1.0 with v.92 firmware in it. If it is working now. You may want to hold off on the restore modem. Though one of the symptoms of the failing power supply. Is Link Database is empty or some of the links are gone. If it is a hardware V1.0 the capacitor fix should still work but it will have rework on the PCB and capacitors hanging off of it into the case. White Sticker on mine: 2413S V1.0 0922 Has v.92 Firmware in it.

I just checked my older module stock. White Sticker: 2413S V1.0 0922 Has v.92 Firmware in it. I also know mine has rework in it. Two of the capacitors. Are hanging off the PCB. A fly wire to the solder side. From one of the + side of a capacitor. An added coil between the two capacitors + leads. That hanging off the PCB. The capacitor fix should still apply but due to the rework. May require more skills. BustRat PLM Test for the Get IM Info Command. On the above PLM. Busyrat PLM Test Tool ver 1.1 Press 'H' for help. Right-click or press 'M' for a menu. 2015 JUL 29 16:24:36 <<< Time Marker >>> COM1 opened at 19200,N,8,1 PLM>02 60 16:24:55.3 Tx 02 60 16:24:55.5 Rx 0F 9E FA 03 11 92 06 PLM>\

I don't know the answer to your question. I am sure the programming experts here will have a much more detailed information for you.
-
Are you bring all the Insteon devices from the old home to the new home or all new Insteon devices? If everything is new. None of the ISY backup data may apply to all new devices.
-
I would also say remotely possible for a PLM to only stop processing X10 messages. It does sound like you have X10 signal issues. The 220 volt X10 modules are even more touchy. As in certain installations. Many X10 controllers have a stronger output as pointed out. So the controller may have enough signal strength to reach the X10 module and the PLM's output may not be strong enough. Have you tried the controller in the same outlet as the PLM? Do you have any X10 coupler between the two incoming power lines? Have you tried disconnecting electronic devises that maybe causing noise or signal absorption?
-
I have the X10 module but never used it. So no X10 modules are in the Device Tree.
-
I also know my X10 commands to Insteon Modules do not register in my ISY994i. As any changes. It just thinks the modules are in the last state it knows about.
-
If you have the Pro version. You can turn Off Automatic Writes to Battery devices. Then do one at a time. If the PLM is less than two years old. Smarthome owes you a warranty replacement.
-
I too have seen leads trimmed back to far and either falling out of the PCB or barely catching any solder to the pad.
-
I believe I had posted this in one of your other FilterLinc threads. http://home.comcast.net/~gafield/family/gary/electronics/X10_Filter.pdf One difference with the one I recently purchased. L1 and L2 are now one less turn but more tightly wound together. Probably the same or very close inductance as the older ones. I have also seen heavy conductors {like your L1 and L2} have poor solder joints or slowly fatigue and crack over time.
-
Great find. You did indeed get a bargain. If C1, C2 or C3 where open. The AC would still pass through L1 and L2 the heavy coils. FilterLinc would not be tuned correctly. If C1 or C2 where shorted. They are in parallel with L1 or L2. Again AC should pass through them. FilterLinc would not be tuned correctly. C3 if it was shorted. You most likely would have a big blown out capacitor as it is directly across the Line to Neutral. Between the junction of L1 and L2. I doubt the 10 amp input fuse would beat the cap blowing off the board. C3 is also the one that holds the surprise charge you sometimes experience when you unplug it with no load. A high resistance resistor across C3. Would have cured the stored charge syndrome.

Don't count on the AF120 being available in the future. Act is discontinuing all their A10/X10 products. The AF120 is on the list of some still in stock. http://www.act-solutions.com/

When you replace your PLM. There are exact steps to follow. Power down the ISY controller and PLM. Connect the serial cable from the ISY controller to the new PLM. Power Up the new PLM first and let it initialize. Then power up the iSY controller. So it will find the new PLM at power up. Use the Restore Modem (PLM) choice. To have the new PLM's ID written into all of your Insteon devices. If you have the Pro version you can delay writes to battery operated modules and then do each one individually.
-
Having the PLM connected on the same circuit as the computing equipment. Frequently causes problems. Unless the computing equipment is on a FilterLinc or similar filter.

If it is about two years or older. That is about when they start going bad. Mine died three months after the two year warranty expired. http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/13866-repair-of-2413s-plm-when-the-power-supply-fails/ I would also say get a new one. They are reported to have updated capacitors in them. That should be better. If Stu's suggestion of cycling the power starts it going again. It is most likely close to total failure. I got mine through Amazon.
