I'm testing a z-wave plug-in dimmer with Polisy using the Zooz dongle and I'm seeing a 2 or 3 second delay when turning on/off compared to a similar Insteon plug-in dimmer.

The dimmer is working perfectly aside from the slight slowness.  It is a ZLINK Plug-in Dimmer ZL-PD-100 and sits about 15 ft from the Polisy.

Is slowness an inherent characteristic of z-wave?  There is lots of online discussion about slowness and it can be attributed to just about everything under the sun.

I can live with it, just curious.

Zwave is generally slower than insteon but not 2-3 seconds slower. Keep in mind, this is still early on in testing. Most likely it'll improve.

@mmb,

That is very slow. Please use the Event Viewer, on Level 3, and post the traffic. It might be that it's using a less optimal route.

With kind regards,
Michel

Here you go.

Event Viewer Log Level 3 for Turning Off then On a scene with both an Insteon and Z-Wave Dimmer Plug-in Modules.  Network connectivity to Polisy is over Wifi.

Update 1: I contacted the reseller about another issue with this switch.  When I press the on/off button on the module I don't see any updates in the controller.  Nothing in the event viewer either.

The reseller tested for me on his Vera system and he says the controller updates properly.

Update 2: I received my Leviton DZPD3-2BW Z-Wave plugin dimmer and a quick test shows a slight lag of about 1 sec on a on/off from from the Polisy controller.  A manual on/off updates the controller properly.  So something is wrong with the Zlink.

Is Z-Wave now available with ISY on Polisy? I have not seen any announcement, or is this internal testing?

If is coming I will order up a Polisy so I am ready.

I didn't know the DZPD3-2BW reported instant status. With all my Leviton Z-Wave i have to use a program that monitors the hail command.

@brians

BTW: To ping another person you need to use the @ and their name, but also select their name from the falldown menu, or it is just plain text with no ping. The result should be a reverse video font, as shown above.

@brians yes ISY with Z-Wave on Polisy.  It works fine but a few annoying glitches still to be ironed out.

I gather you are using an ISY994 for Z-Wave, so maybe the Polisy delays I'm seeing are issues in the beta code.

A manual press of the Leviton module gives this:

Thu 12/30/2021 09:24:38 AM : [ZWAVE-RX        ] [010B00A800011602820100B278]            REQ APPLICATION_COMMAND_HANDLER_BRIDGE
Thu 12/30/2021 09:24:48 AM : [        Time] 09:24:48 2(0)

But the Polisy doesn't do anything with it.

The Zlink module doesn't seem to send anything - the Seller is checking for firmware updates because he says another module/controller he has is sending commands.

'What's involved in a Hail Program?

@mmb

I am not familiar with the devices that you are using, but I have Z-Wave devices that update as expected on an ISY944i but do not when added to ISY on Polisy. I am hoping there is something to be fixed in the Polisy version.

@Michel Kohanim

Can you confirm if there is an issue with updating status from Z-Wave devices on ISY on Polisy?

Posted

@RB3 I have a ISY994 Z-Wave module that I've never installed.

What is confusing is not understanding what I see in Polisy with Z-Wave as being normal or not.

Based on comments, maybe I should install the module so I can compare behavior.

Posted

@mmb Yes I am using the ISY994i with 500 module.

I am interested to know how you get Z-Wave on ISY with Polisy (is it released now?).

Regarding the hail... all my Leviton Z-Wave do not report back instant status eg. if a switch is turned on/off manually it does not report this back to ISY (has to do with some now expired patent years ago they didn't want to pay royalties for). However when a Leviton switch is turned on/off that device sends a "hail" and ISY can recognize this. Therefore I have program for each Leviton that checks for the control is hail from it, and then queries the status of the device to see what its state is, there is information elsewhere how to do this.

There may be issues with dimmers not reporting exact value depending on when the query was sent.

Other devices I have like Zooz and Jasco do not need this and report instant status.

However, I find that in practice, the lamp/dimmer modules I control are always from ISY or another switch in scene, so the state is known... I never control lamps from those units directly.

Thanks @brians, is the monitoring program look for Hail or something?  I'll try it out if you have details.

Yes an updated Polisy can use a Zooz USB Z-Wave dongle but I understand another dongle works as well but forgot the name.  I use it in conjunction with a USB Insteon PLM.  I understand the serial PLM will work too.

@Michel Kohanim

I have two HomeSeer motion detectors that were working on the ISY994 but don't update status on ISY polisy.  There is activity in the event viewer when motion is detected but the status doesn't change on the device page. @RB3has a screen shot in the  ISY on Polisy v5.2.0 Is Now Available thread.

It'll probably be easier for him if you post your error so he doesn't have to go digging through other threads

The event viewer shows the following communications when the motion sensors detect activity. The status doesn't update in the admin console.

@mjrush @lilyoyo1I had a Zooz 4-in-1 multisensor which was really nice but I couldn't make it stay on Celsius, it would keep flipping back the F - so I returned it.   The reseller blamed the controller.

Anyway, it had a motion sensor and it seemed to work flawlessly on Polisy.  I had it trigger a scene to turn Insteon and Z-Wave plugin modules. Status was updating properly.

It's interesting how some devices don't seem to work completely with Polisy.  Maybe future code updates will address.

And I'll try a Aeotec multisensor sometime in the future.

I'm sure it'll improve. How the Isy works with zwave now is infinitely better than earlier firmwares

Awesome, I just ordered the very last Polisy they had in stock from UDI and hope to get it up here in Canada in next couple weeks. I already have the Zooz Z-Wave stick. Since USB PLM are rare, I also ordered an Insteon 2448A7 USB stick which I read elsewhere that will work fine with Polisy that using my wireless insteon devices to bridge/mesh with my old powerline only devices.

I also have ZL-PD-100 dimmer so can test that to see if works as per OP but the latest update posted probably fix!

@brians let me know how the ZL-PD-100 dimmer tests for you.  I still don't receive controller status updates on a manual button press.  Unlike the Leviton which updates properly. Both have a still lag of about 3 seconds.

Update: I tested on my ISY994 with a Z-Wave module and behaviour is identical to the Policy.

I just upgraded to ISY on Polisy and my ZL-PD-100 dimmers work perfect. I even have it on a scene to an insteon keypadlinc button and dim up / down in real time from the keypadlinc.

It would be interesting if you could post the event viewer communications for the Zlink module so I can compare.
