Hello Canadian friends, @ minimum of $45 per box, the shipping charges to Canada are more than any meaningful discount we can offer and still beat the prices from AARTech. I am so very sorry. With kind regards, Michel

@akss, I have tried VirtualBox and QEMU a long time ago on Windows. They were horrendous. I think Promox is made for server class devices. With kind regards, Michel

@akss, On the contrary, not only I enjoy these discussions, but I also find them perfect opportunity to learn (outside of my own ecosystem). From my own experimentations, the only things that can run BSD in a VM are qemu (which is slow), virtualbox (which is even slower), or bhyve running on BSD. If you know of other solutions, I am all ears! With kind regards, Michel

@Bumbershoot, yes precisely. @ndfan77 and @akss, in order to run eisy on a VM/docker under Linux, we will have to rewrite millions of C/C++ code in Python, Java, node.js, script, etc. Or, we have to recompile under Linux. As a background, before we understood the gravity of GPL licenses, we spent over a year compiling everything under Linux. It was a nightmare since every little thing requires _devel packages to be installed and maintained. We then had to choose an OS or write our own OS. The choice was BusyBox - a lions den of GPL monsters - and Debian - too slow. FreeBSD is not immune to shortcomings: device drivers and docker support. Given the aforementioned, we just do not have the resources to make IoX Linux compatible so that you can run it inside a Linux docker. Sorry! With kind regards, Michel

@akss, What would be the purpose of this science experience? i.e. why would you want to run eisy anyway? With kind regards, Michel
-
@mapeter, Yes, but for now you need to use ssh: top With kind regards, Michel

Of course. Please submit a ticket. With kind regards, Michel

@ndfan77, Unfortunately docker and BSD don't mix very well. The closest was Jail and now bhyve. With kind regards, Michel

100% of the time! With kind regards, Michel

@ndfan77, Very good question and the short answer is yes. The long answer: 1. Have good backups of IoX and PG3. 2. Reinstall udx and isy packages. In 99% the cases, those services will sanity check the system and reconfigure everything if necessary (you will need to restore backup from 1). 3. If all else fails, contact tech support and we'll give you the instructions to reflash the drive . 4. And if that fails, you can send it in for repair. In all cases, you're covered. With kind regards, Michel

Precisely! With kind regards, Michel

@DualBandAid Apologies, we should have been more clear and I will update the documentation. What you need to do is to ssh into eisy. On Mac, use the terminal app on your Mac and type: ssh admin@eisy.local Enter the password for admin (default is admin but please change immediately). Once logged in, you are now on eisy and do the rest on eisy. With kind regards, Michel
-
@DualBandAid, Yes, you need to open but please don't crack it! Here are the instructions: https://developer.isy.io/blog/NVMe With kind regards, Michel

@sjenkins, For me, it's mostly to help an elderly person with specific tasks such as: take the pills by hh:mm. If not within 30 minutes, remind again with a different prompt (spoken words). If the door to the pills cabinet is not opened, remind again, etc. ... With kind regards, Michel

@randyth, Supervised (whole HAOS image). With kind regards, Michel

Support Thread: IoX v5.8.0 (January 5, 2024)
Michel Kohanim replied to Administrator's topic in IoX Support
@WestSeattleBoi, The first thing you need to do is to upgrade packages again. The only reason eisy would start an upgrade on its own after a reboot is because the previous upgrade didn't succeed. Once the upgrade is done, please Reboot (not Restart IoX). If you still have issues, please submit a ticket. @Riggins44, you would get that in two cases: a) cache is not enabled and b) there's nothing in the cache. With kind regards, Michel -
@sjenkins, It's mostly for notification purposes of certain events (either scheduled or based on other events). You can also use it as a very rudimentary media player either connected directly to your amplifier or you can get a cheap headphone to Bluetooth converter (about $15 on Amazon) and stream to Bluetooth speakers. We plan to support native Bluetooth shortly so that you can stream directly to Bluetooth speakers. With kind regards, Michel

@tazman, I am so very glad to hear! It's all thanks to @xKing. How is the response time on other parts of eisy not related to HA? With kind regards, Michel
-
@tazman, Go for it! Please note that it might take up to 10 minutes for HA's initial boot (expand disk, prepare directories, etc.). Please be patient. Once boot up, it should be pretty responsive. Good luck! With kind regards, Michel

how can I be notified when new Nodeservers are released?
Michel Kohanim replied to someguy's topic in Coffee Shop
Good idea! Here's a new one that I developed myself! https://forum.universal-devices.com/forum/437-audioplayer/ With kind regards, Michel -
Unplug the relay, plug back in, wait 10 seconds, restart the plugin. With king regards, Michel

how can I be notified when new Nodeservers are released?
Michel Kohanim replied to someguy's topic in Coffee Shop
A very good question and one for which we still have no answers. We used to have Plugin news, but customers complained about the number of emails they got (and they were right: currently, whenever I get Alexa newsletters, I simply delete them without even reading). The other option would be to send push notifications, but even that gets annoying. In short, what would be the best method without getting annoying? With kind regards, Michel -
How To Write a Node Server (or fix a broken one)?
Michel Kohanim replied to Kentinada's topic in Polyglot v3 (PG3x)
@Kentinada, Yes, of course: hhttps://docs.isy.io . It might seem a little complicated at first but we are to help you along the way. As long as you know python, you should be OK. With kind regards, Michel -
I have a solution! Put a small card on 994/eisy/polisy with the following: IT IS TIME TO UPGRADE THIS UNIT. CONTACT UD. 😉 With kind regards, Michel

@tazman, Yes but it's really up to you. Here's the initial script: https://docs.isy.io/blog/Home Assistant ... please do not do anything yet as we are still testing the script to make sure it's working in all cases. With kind regards, Michel
