Wifes reaction to another "woman" in the house?
The Echo does not intrude. It's quiet unless queried. And at that, it won't respond if not specifically addressed.

For fun, try complimenting Alexa.

NEW Amazon Echo Dot and Tap
I've been in that situation where I had to stop what I was doing (e.g., on a ladder, under a desk) to turn the light on. Now, with an Echo, I can continue without disruption

Amazon down, so is Echo
At this moment, Amazon's down, so is Echo. So much for the cloud. More specifically, Connected Home is down. Uh oh! Amazon's up, but nothing is responding.

NEW Amazon Echo Dot and Tap
It's true. Each account requires Prime membership to access prime benefits. I found that out when I created a sub-account for the bedroom where we have Fire TV. We lost the ability to use the TV remote as an Echo controller. But, with an Echo in that room, we really don't need that ability.

NEW Amazon Echo Dot and Tap
A purpose of sub-accounts is to not have to give each device a different name. If we're in the bedroom, "Alexa, turn the light on," turns on the bedroom light, the same command in the living room turns on the living room light, in the dining room, the dining room light turns on. I also use unique names for the maximum in convenience and flexibility. When in the kitchen we can ask Alexa to turn the light on, but from the living room, we tell Alexa to turn on the kitchen light. That's not unlike ordinary conversation. We don't ask someone to turn the dining room light on when we're in the dining room, we do if we're not in the dining room.

"I've found several devices matching that name"
I had a similar situation with "light" and "bright light." Over time, Alexa got them correct. In fact, at this point, the Echo responds correctly to voicing only 'bright." In particular, "Alexa, turn the bright on," works even though the spoken is bright light. Make an effort to enunciate clearly. After a while you'll be able speak more naturally. Apparently, the Echo does learn. Also, make sure that you don't accidentally say, "turn all the patio lights"

Alexa found devices but "not found"
There's an error in the list of commands at the link above. Turn On': “Alexa, turn on the kitchen light” - works for devices, scenes, and programs (runs If) should be Turn On': “Alexa, turn on the kitchen light” - works for devices, scenes, and programs (runs Then) In the event you want to run (If), then enable the ISY skill and tell Alexa to "ask Izzy to run <program name>.

Ring doorbell?
Yes, I read the reports and noticed the speed at which the company responded to the vulnerability. Pen Test Partners handed out kudos to Ring for responding to the vulnerability alert “within a matter of minutes,” with a firmware update released to fix the issue just two weeks after it was disclosed privately. You reluctance to have anything to do with the company seems based on ethics, which I fully respect

Alexa just stopped saying 'ok'
My experience is the opposite. I got the "okay" some seconds device responded, now the chimes are almost immediate
-
Ring doorbell?
That's a non-answer, kinda like "because." BTW, the OPs link is to the sales page at Amazon.with a rating of 4.1 out of 5 out of 6,667 raters. Considering that dissatisfied users are most likely to post and complain, that seems pretty good

Alexa just stopped saying 'ok'

I'd like to know how to do that. Well, not me, Alexa Edit: As I speak (to Alexa), the response is updated to ding-dong (and dong-ding). Izzy still responds with what was done!!!
